Just wondering what everyone did for Thanksgiving Day exercise, before or after the meal.

I myself went on a 34 mile ride in about 2.25 hours early this morning. Weather was nice and I hate to say this(especially since so many live in a lot colder areas) a bit on the cool side 62 degrees. But last weekend I was in Tucson where it was in the high 80's. The weather is nice here in San Diego but we could sure use some rain.

All my family is out of town so my wife and I have reservations at a restaurant at 6pm for dinner. No mess to clean up and no leftovers to store. Although roasted turkey would be good so we will probably cook one soon just for the meat and carcas for soup.

Hope all had a nice Thanksgiving.

What a treasure you are! I'm so thankful for you.

This is certainly a day when exercise is not to be missed! Today I cooked the whole thing for my family, my daughter and her roommate and my mother-in-law. Family gatherings are wonderful and stressful all at the same time. Combine that with rich food, and you need extra armor! I always grab my favored armor -- my exercise program -- and amp it up on such days.

So first thing this morning, just slightly before the sun came up, I was up in my exercise clothes. I did 20 minutes of kickboxing followed by a 50 minute strength session, concluding with a great stretch for my muscles and joints. I was then ready to take on the turkey, stuffing and all the rest!

Many hours later, with everybody full and gone back to their own worlds, I did 30 minutes of light aerobics -- a recovery workout, really. Nothing too vigorous, but enough to invigorate my body.

Total today -- about 100 minutes all told.

For me, going into a Holiday is somewhat like a soldier going into battle. I wouldn't dream of going without my weapons!

What did everybody else do? You DID work out, didn't you? Well, the day isn't quite over! Go do SOMETHING and come on back and tell us about it. Dare you!

By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I walked for an hour an a half along a beautiful trail through a spruce woods. It was brisk in the shade, but the sun felt wonderful on my back. It was a feast for my spirit and a great aerobic work out. A little over 6 miles through some sand, a little rolling hill section along a lake with the ocean crashing off in the distance. One of my favorite "secret" places. Mushrooms sprouting up all over the place. It was heavenly.

I was at the gym this morning. I did a spin class at 8:30 am followed by pilates. Much fun was had and many endorphins were created!

In the words of James Brown, "I feel good!"

Judy,

Best I can calculate not knowing your exact weight your light day of exercise neeted you somewhere between 550-600 calories burned. Of courese this is above and beyond what your body uses in it's day to day norm.

I too wouldnt know what to do if I didnt exercise on Thanksgiving. Not only because it allows me to enjoy my holiday meal a little easier but just starts the day out on a high note.

Sandi that must have been a wonderful walk especially having been to your area on vacation when I was younger. It definately allows you to put things in perspective. It not only refreshes the mind but the soul also.

Marla I remember spin classes had a blast and they were a key to my success. I would have a hard time doing them now as I would rather pedal outdoors. I do have twelve weeks of Stationary training starting in January two times a week. It's sort of like spin classes but we use our own bikes and work in sequence to and end goal. They are usually 90 min long. Never did Pilates but it sounds as if youre morning started out well also.

Pre WLS the last thing on my mind was exercise heck it never even crossed my mind. I know many others exercised today let us know what you did.

Julie --

Props to you for fessing up! I'm sure that you are not the only person who didn't exercise, or has fallen off the exercise track! You are, however, the one who had the courage to step in here and say so.

Now that you have done that, why don't you squeeze in a walk today? Or something. Don't say "soon" -- say "Today is the day!"

You're a beautiful woman, you have a love and a zest for life. How well I know that, my fellow Scorpian! You love to look good -- so do I, so I understand that perfectly. When you invest in those good looks with regular exercise, you add a sparkle to the eye that is more attractive than any makeup you can buy or any cute little black dress.

Soon? or Today? I love your tag -- your 'before' pic with "Never again!" under it. That's reason enough right there! Make it today, my dear friend!

That was most assuredly NOT a butt-kicking! It was a hug. You are one awesome lady!

Ahhhh Judy...your SO SWEET! I appreciate YOU!

I am feeling down and sluggish today....dont know if it's just nearing that time of the month or what! But I just cant get motivated to go walk! I cant seem to get WARM and this ISNT NEBRASKA..its CALI BABY!!

The sun is shining and it's windy and cool out there! Hubby and I have been moving furniture and cleaning the fridge and all other kinds of things...not the typical exercise but not the RIGHT kind either!

Maybe if I got out there and walked..I'd warm up a bit...might have to grab my parka though! lol..

Judy..thanks for the NON-butt kickin'! But yet the gentle words of support and kindness! I WILL get to it...because I am NEVER GOING BACK to the old Julie..I am LOVING LIFE TOO MUCH!!

THANK YOU for being YOU! nature-smiley-008.gif
