I am 9 weeks out from my surgery and I am unsure when to stop eating. I don't feel full. I am afraid I am going to stretch out my pouch. I just eat until I feel satisfied or get tired of eating. I am still eating MUCH less than before surgery but I am able to eat more than I could 4 weeks ago. I also never feel hungry. Does than hunger feeling return? I feel unsure how to read my new body. Thanks for any advice.

I forgot to add that sometimes about 10 minutes after I eat I feel as if I ate too much but I do not have a warning before to stop.
Thanks!

The hunger feeling will return and sometimes with a vengeance. The old timers advise weighing out your food and eating the correct portion sizes. That will help. Kim then advised some of us that are farther out to not eat until full, but to stay a little hungry and this will help to keep things in perspective. This is something that I am putting into practice now. Don't eat until full, eat the right sized portions. If you do happen to get full before that, even better! Make sure that you get protein first, then some veggies. Make sure that you get in all your fluids in between meals. Good luck!

good questions Melody.. I sometimes feel that way too.. I am only 10 weeks out so I am new with my new body too. I notice that my body tells me more often then not that I feel hungry. I told my dr that and they said just make sure you eat. I do'nt think I eat enough at times. I need to get my daily routine in place along with the vitamins... I need to have more snacks. I am going to get the cookbook this site put together so that I can have some great ideas... this site rocks!

We are also working on a second cookbook, so if you have some holiday recipes that are WLS friendly, please add them to the new cookbook!

Before I even read Tami's reply I was thinking measure your food. So, obviously, I have learned from the folks here. I too have yet to feel hungry and I am almost four months out. So, I measure my food or weigh it to make sure I am not eating too much. This hasn't caused any problem for me cause I usually can't eat all that I put on my plate anyway. This will certainly alleviate the problem of feeling like you ate too much. It is kind of a trial and error thing cause we are all so different.

GAWD!!!! I wish!!! I've been hungry since the day after my surgery! Literally! In the hospital, and people could hear my old stomach growling to beat the band! Ridiculous!

Anyway... measuring is one thing I do, because if I don't watch it, and let myself get too hungry, I end up eating too fast, and yup, here it comes! Back to haunt me! and I don't always get a "full" sign either... it really seems to depend on how solid the food is... like, salmon and turkey will give me a definitive "We're FULL!!" sometimes too late, but, still, there it is... but chili doesn't tell me at ALL...! (I'm about to designate chili as a "slider" for me... very depressing!!)

Well in the beginning I always had that full feeling, I mean 1/4 cup creams oup and 2 crackers filled me up. But still in case I always measured! I measure til this day! THat why when I saw I could get in 8 ozs food I quickly looking for help and found this group and it was a blessing, now I get full off 4 yo 6 ozes and I can deal with that! But I never did get hunger pangs, just got full. Now if I am hungry it hurts! I mean it feels like my stomach is dry and pruning up to nothing. Really bad feelings. But since I been on my new way of eating after finding this group I dont have that. On Day 2 I did and it hurtsss.......sometimes so bad I couldnt stand straight. Make sure you eat!!!! And right now til you get to know your new stomach (because its probably there u just dont know how to read it yet) measure your food and dont over do it......at first 2 to 3 ozs filled me up!

Good Luck!
Kim
Okay...I'm just going to assume that you had the RnY and not the band procedure.

If so, then...it is my opinion and what I was taught...you should measure out three, one ounce portions by volume. What is one ounce by volume? Just about three tablespoons. You can eye-ball it. I was given little plastic cups that look like what you serve a portion of cold medicine in. Three. Now, you should take 10 FULL minutes to consume one of those little cups. Are you going that slow? Thirty full minutes should be set aside for each meal.

If you have not been doing this, then try it and report back as to if you feel full.

Good luck!

Darrie,
I have the same problem with chili. I've decided, instead of giving it up, I will measure out the amount I should eat & stop when that is done. I came to that after eating 1 1/2 cups of chili a couple nights ago. I love chili & it loves me, so I'm not willing to give it up.
