Tell me it ain't so... Saw a clip flash before my eyes last night on television, but forgot what show it was going to air on later. Showed a tearful Carnie Willson being asked how much weight she regained. Her response? "All of it." OMG -- say it isn't true!! Anyone know about this? I know she was on that Celebrity Fit Club and did really well, but what the heck happened after that?!

Thanks!

What a horrible pressure to see yourself not only as a failure but as
someone everyone "derseves" access too! I ache for her. Oh, where to start???
I have, like many of us, spent my whole lifetime "losing weight for the last
time!" I came pretty close to that in the early 70s with Weight Watchers... took off the
weight... maintained for some years...lectured for the company...yahda.
But the onset of serious chronic depression brought it all back and then some.
In the late 70's there was a young, sweet, inspiring Richard Simmons. His simple book,
Never Say Diet, signaled a return to responsible eating for me. His simple morning and night
excercizes (no need for expensive equipment or gym memberships) brought
me back to where I wanted to be. My weight is always on my mind in one way or another.
And after the years of up and down; losing and re-gaining hundreds of lbs, I decided on WLS, R-en-Y.
I TOLD NO ONE.... the thought of debating pros and cons... the idea that staff at
my work place would be analysing what I ate... and perhaps the biggest reason was...
I could not imagine that this would be the silver bullet... that time I'd take it off and
maintain long term. When colleagues would mention my weight loss, I'd thank them and
say something like, "Thanks, but ... you know how it goes; Up down, UP down..." blah
blah blah... finishing with a self deprecating..."Check in with me next near at this time
and we'll see which it is!"
We are all here with the same fears and frailties. Science knows so little, actually
about why the fat accumulates. The fat, the overweight is a symptom of a yet
mysterious disease. And now, with the globe awash with people in every culture
who suffer from obesity and it's co-morbid conditions ... I feel like I have to
keep pushing to ferret out what true facts I can, stumbling along the way.
My heart goes out to Carnie Wilson and every one of us who have dealt with
undeserved shame and stigma. In the meantime,
may we find wellness together as we keep on walkin' the walk.

I did a web search and can't find anything saying she has regained her weight. She has a MySpace that seems pretty upbeat and she last posted to her BLOG on the 26th of this month. I didn't read it cause I didn't want to register. However, if she has regained the weight, it seems to be a pretty well kept secret. She has a new album being released in December and the cover is a very flattering photo.

I wish that we could get her to join us. I loved her so much before she lost weight for sticking up for herself in a world where fat is just not accepted. She is an inspiration and it isn't right that so many get to judge. I hope that she hasn't gained it all back, but even ifshe did, she is still such a wonderful person!
artsygal4u
I hope it didn't seem like I was judging her. Quite the opposite was intended. My heart aches for her if indeed it's true that she has regained all her weight. To have struggled with her weight for her entire life, like so many of us have, AND be in the public eye...well I certainly couldn't have handled it -- let alone with her honesty and grace. I was even thinking how great it would be to reach out to her and invite her to join the LAWLS family.

Hope this clears up any confusion my initial post may have caused.

Hi there!

I really don't think that anyone took it wrong. I certainly understood what you meant :) It was more of a concern - and how her circumstance could apply to any of us.

I have searched high and low and could find nothing. I know she has been having children (did she have just one - but I thought she got pregnant a second time?) - and at any rate, of course having children will contribute to SOME weight gain.

Now, I am quite confident that she did not regain ALL of her weight - after all, in her pre-surgical images, she could barely walk. I will keep looking, and if anyone else sees anything, keep us posted.

Yes - I also do wish very much that she would join us. Just imagine all of the wonderful support she would get if she was here!! :)

OK Guys, here is what I can deduce from scouring the net for news....and calling some friends and asking folks and etc. etc. etc.....

It appears that you may have seen a clip where she was upset, because she had regained all of much of what she had RE-LOST in her latest attempt to her back to her 145 goal. I believe she is still around 100-120 pounds less than when she first had her surgery, so she is still very much a success.

It is the same as me, having lost the 9.whatever pounds these last four days, if I was to regain 10 pounds over the weekend. I would be so upset and freaking out, but still nowhere near gaining ALL of it back. It may have been filmed out of context....

At any rate, I think she will snap back - she always does :) Her husband Rob is a really good guy and loves her so much.

At least, this is my take on it, as far as I can tell. If anyone hears anything different, please post corrections/updates below, so that we find out. I am really interested....

Have a terrific day!

sad0017.gif Oh, bless her heart, EITHER way she's in the spotlight and just a lone target waiting to be hit by yet another negative media blip!!!

My heart too, soooo goes out to her!!!! Like MWLS, I would be so upset to know that I had lost, regained LOST AGAIN to only find out next week I had regained it all over again....and to be in the spotlight whilst doing it all, whew...SHE'S AN AMAZINGLY strong woman with an amazingly strong husband...

Funny you should mention that it'd be great if she were among our neighborhood, cause I was thinking the same thing the other day and I had not seen anything at all about her in the news lately...maybe we should invite her??? :) nature-smiley-008.gif

Mike, I agree with your take. I have been all over searching too. The latest picture I saw of her showed her still way, way less than when she had her surgery. I hope this is just a bump in the road and that she rights herself. I also agree about her husband. He married her BEFORE she had surgery and seems to be a hugh support. Man, wouldn't she love the 5DPT??????

You said it, guys!

WOW - I wish we had some way to get a hold of her, and very respectfully invite her into the 5-day pouch test, and into becoming a part of LAWLS. That would most certainly get her the rest of her way on her journey!

Maybe we can come up with something? love0028.gif
mickeefynn
Nowhere would she find a more understanding, more
caring bunch of like-minded friends!
She has a forum at her Lite & Hope site too.
Sure would be perfect for her to come here anonymously.
Could be done! party0003.gif

Hi everyone

I bought a magazine "Quick and Simple " from good housekeeping it has a story on her thats why I picked it up she was on front cover it only said that she now weighs 180 lbs and wants to lose 30 lbs of post preganancy weight and that she takes in 1200 calories a day it also says that she stuggles daily with the fear of being fat again I guess we all do from clebs to regular folks like us we are all human....oh it said that she allows her self "naughty" carb-laden treats so that she doesn't feel completely deprived and she stays active to ensure her weight stays where it should be....it also said that she wasn't quick to shed the emotional baggage she had acquired over a lifetime of obesity she attened regular therapy sessions and leaned on her husband....what a man ......she all said she started drinking after her surgery and that it was her desire to start a family that made her go to rehab and get sober shes writing a book it said ok thats all I know hope it helps ....hugs
artsygal4u
Ok...saw the snippet again and agree it was out of context. I agree with an earlier post -- I think she was referring to weight that she had recently LOST -- not her overall weight loss. BIG difference! Surprise, surprise that TV would mislead us with this "hook."

For anyone that's interested Carnie will be featured on Entertainment Tonight which airs at 6:30 central, channel 2 where I live.
Damon
Ok this is one of the things that really gets me hot and is an example of the bias against WLS. Carnie Wilson is a very public figure and at times or more truthfully most of thee time is under a microscope called the press. Not only the mainstream but tabloid idiots. She more than likely has no privacy and every pound she gains they probably know before she does. Now that she has gained some weight back you know it is going to be said that see we told you WLS doesnt work. Next thing is insurance companies will be denying coverage because it didnt work for Carnie Wilson.

I feel so bad for her and I too wish she would look at the neihborhood and if by chance she looks in join under another name and let us help you. I am so sick of the media notlookingfor the success stories and only focusing on the failures. Look deeper and find the people who have succeded long term. This would give people hope instead of despair sure it wouldnt be a sensational night time new story but it would actually be the truth.

We are here write about us and tell our story.

As usual, Damon has stated my point of view for me! I totally agree.

If any media people happen in here and jump in this thread to catch "the dish" on what we are saying about Carnie, I invite you to do a search under my name. I had WLS in 1986. I have maintained a healthy weight since 1997. Look up my posts, feel free to publish any parts of my SUCCESS STORY that you might find of interest to your readers.

Look it up! And publish it if you dare.

In any case, leave Carnie alone.

No wonder Star Jones didn't want to tell!

Judy and Damon, I couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe someone should go to her website (don't remember the name) and just invite her to come have a look at us...and then just maybe she would feel secure enough to join annonymously...that'd be so great!!!
Viki
She's on that show called Gone Country. She has gained weight, however, she's no where near what she used to be before WLS. I think she deals with a lot of issues. I remember her saying something about transfer addiction and God knows what else.

I wish her well. She lead the path for so many of us.

Here's a link to an interview in Dec. 2007

I was Carnie's Weight Watcher counselor in the 70's LOL - I think she was 8 or 9 years old.

I wish her only the best!

Wow Nancy, that's cool! You've got some great experiences...I'd love to write your biography some day!

And I love this thought: Maybe Carnie Wilson IS a member! Maybe Al Roker is too! Who knows who all is on here? I would be willing to bet good money that Al, Carnie and Star have ALL looked on here! Someday, maybe we'll know. But I bet I'm right!

AARG!!! This is one reason I HATE the media! It doesn't matter what the topic, their goal is to sell papers (or TV or whatever) regardless of the consequences and who it hurts. Case in point - Britney Spears (leave the poor girl alone and she might have a fighting chance), Carnie Wilson (not even close to Britney, but it wouldn't hurt if they would stop asking her about her weight - she had WLS a LONG time ago - so what if she put on a couple of lbs, it's nobody's business).
nursekrista
action-smiley-065.gif i have seen carnie w on gone country and looks like she did gain some weight but hey who hasnt! it is so easy for the media to point fingers at her for gaining a few. if i was scrutinized everyday like she is it would drive me nuts.. the media looks at wls surgery as being the easy way out however those of us that had wls know that is false>> u go carnie i still think u look good.
Julie S
I havent seen anything either but I did see her on a show not long ago...yes she has gained some back from her pregnancy and what not...but she is VERY happy and knows that she'll keep on doing what it takes...she talked about transfer addictions and how she starting doing other stuff to take the place of food.

However she has been in counseling and will continue to strive to keep the weight off and do her best. She is very happy too! Ok..so she's not at the lowest she was...but she is healthier and happier and those words came from HER MOUTH!!

Funny how things can get so miscontstrued!

I'd hate to be a celebrity who had wls...next thing you know they'll be dissin' Randy Jackson and Star Jones!

Whewww...glad we dont have to go through that! lol..
