I am feeling very good with 18lbs in 13 days, and was going to try eating half a banana with peanut butter, did anyone do that at this early stage and still lose?
June'-))

Aloha,

Is the half banana and peanut butter something that your doctor/dietician approve two weeks after your surgery? That's what you need to look at first.

Some had to do liquids for a month.

I had liquids in hospital and meal just before discharge pureed foods. My surgeon recommended pureed food for about three weeks and then slowly more solid but I had to chew chew chew. So0 I really only did liquids two days before surgery and two days after.

I did well on pureed foods. I used peanut butter to get the bitter crushed meds down, but never really ate peanut butter.

If it's okay with your team.......................try it.

It's hard to advise because alot of us got different guidance. I ate fruits from day one after surgery and still do. Some say minimum fruits etc., I see a fruit I eat it, sometimes 4-5 a day.

I lost the weight and did well.

Sip sip sip water and exercise.....................walking is exercise............and you will lose weight.

I am hoping that you do well, too.

Hugs
Meliss

Thanks for answering me fast hahah, yes my diatician said I can eat a teaspoon full of peanut butter so I just thought putting it in a banana would be good'-))

My surgery was in Victoria bc., and my rules of the pouch and first 2 weeks info I have told me to stay on liquids for first 2 weeks and soft foods starting this friday, so I just don't want to spoil any weightloss I may have by doing the banana thingy hahah

I am eating 6 half cup soups and soyah yogurt and a taste of fruit escpecially in my liquid moments, I am drinking sugarless fruit juices, so being a type 2 diabetic its a treat to have that again, and even in less than 2 weeks I am almost off all my meds already, so life is not bad.
Are you happy with the new you? Are you eating semi normal now, I have 2 girlfriends 3 years out are doing wondeful. Thanks June'-))

Hi June! Welcome to the neighborhood and congratulations on your progress.

I love fruit too but have to be careful. If I have more than a few bites, the sugar monster rears it's ugly head for me. Bananas have a lot more sugar than most every other fruit so I would be very, very careful of it. If your surgeon says okay then try it but chew very well and eat very slowly. Some of us know right away if it is going to be okay and others don't. You will need to find out where your pouch stands on letting you know if it is a yes or a no.

Best of luck to you and I hope we see you here often.

Hi June!!!! sign0016.gif to the n'hood!

I would be surprised if you are actually able to eat 1/2 bananna...I was only able to eat 2 oz @ a time when I first had RNY... I had surgery to "enjoy" life and good food is enjoyable to me...I have always allowed myself to have whatever, (been lax in this area this year though) as long as I had my protein first....I have lost 225lbs...and kept the majority of it off...just be careful. At this stage in the game I don't think you can really "mess it up" however, you are trying to establish healthy eating habits and wls is only a "tool", so use it wisely...and to me a bananna with pb is a MUCH better choice than pb pie!!!:) I would just be sure there is no added sugar in the pb. You can buy a brand that is made up only of peanuts and salt...MUCH better for you than the "processed" stuff that's in some pbs. I personally like the SMART BALANCE brand...it has 1g sugar in 2T....some processed pbs have 3-4g sugar or more. I also like the one in you can grind yourself in some grocery stores...pure roasted peanuts, you have to add your own salt later...I eat pb all the time and have ever since surgery. LOVE IT and almond butter as well! Both are great in a vanilla protein shake (I add about 1T in 8 oz of shake). Hope this helps!

I still have to be careful with banana--too sweet for my blood system. If you have it with creamy peanut butter, be careful that the pb doesn't also have sugar or corn syrup. The dreaded HFCS is in everything these days. Good luck with this plan. I think I was on liquids for 4 weeks, then soft for 2 weeks. At any rate, it was like 6 weeks before I actually attempted to eat anything "real."

Personally, peanut butter is the devil to me. If I can hold back and just have a teaspoon, I'd be fine. However, the fat girl inside of me gets a big ol' wad of it on a BIG spoon and then I lick it off. All of those calories! And the fat makes me sickly. Nope, can't do the peanut butter. That's my issue though! I wouldn't advise eating a banana only because it is just chock full of natural sugar. I still can't eat bananas! I can eat a cookie, but not a banana. How do you like that???

Sorry but I am going to be like everyone else here. My Dr only wanted my to eat soft pureed food going into the 2nd week and then only 2oz at a time. I am 9 months out have lost 134 pounds and peanut butter is something that I have tried but sits in my pouch like a lead balloon. I love PB and just like Kim one little spoonful is not enough. (till it gets down inside of me)

Just be cafeful what you eat you rpouch will tell you if it does not like it. Remember if this is the first time having PB and a banana do not eat them together. This is just in case one of them makes you sick. You need to know which one did not agree with you.

I would be very careful of eating the banana as there is alot of sugar in it! I craved fruit, like you, but had to limit it to something like sugar free applesauce or some such. I was told to stay away from fruit for at least 8 weeks if not longer. It is very hard! Try one bite with your peanut butter and see if you can take the sugar, and make it a rather small bite and chew it lots! Good luck to you and welcome to our growing home!

and see if you can take the sugar,

Now, for me...I would disagree with this. (no offense Pooh!)

Why test to see if you can take the sugar? Live behind the fear of getting violently ill! If you just assume that you will get sick from sugar, and never test it, you will be so much better off in the long run!

One of the first "duh" things that I ever heard from a post-op (not online...in person) was, "I can eat a whole bag of M&M's and not get sick!" She was irritated that I was a dumper and that she wasn't. She was looking for a response like, "yeah, that's really too bad that you have such a challenge. I'm lucky." Instead, she got the Sarge response. "HOW DO YOU EVEN KNOW THAT YOU CAN EAT AN ENTIRE BAG OF M&M'S????" At what point does one test the water with a move like this? I'll tell you. It starts with just one. Then it is just our nature to push for two. Pretty soon, we discover that we can plow through the M&M's without getting ill. WRONG direction my friends!

Okay...off my soapbox.

I'm with the Sarge on this dont try it....stay away from sugar I did not now I regret it I found out that I dont dump when i eat sugar...I have to lie to myself everyday so that I dont eat the sugar...I started with just trying a thing here and there and than I found myself wanting and wanting more dont start its hard to let go of again...Candy for me was one of the many many reasons I became MO....Dont give into your small cravings because later they become larger and harder to handle...When we have the surgery we gain a tool that helps us in our battle but we dont get a new head to go with the new tool so we have to stay focused and we (or atleast me) I will always have to fight the head hunger monster
