action-smiley-065.gif I am almost 10 weeks out from WLS (RNY). I started at 223 and have lost 37 lbs to date. When I go two are three days without losing any weight that I get scared that I might not lose anymore. I am following my Dr.s instructions to the letter. I walk twice a day at work and on Tuesday and Thursday with a friend at home.

At this point should I still be measuring my food or just let my body tell me when to stop eating. I have been eating three meals a day, no snacks and drinking fluids. When I eat I just eat until I have the statisfied feeling and then stop. I do have a problem with food getting stuck. Sometimes I take a bite and am not paying attention and don't chew it enough or take too big of a bite. When this happens I usually can't eat again until the next meal.

I am concerned if I am losing weight fast enough. I wonder if I should have lost more by now.

Welcome! I am glad that you found us and that you are doing so well with your weight loss. Don't worry too much about how fast you are losing, everyone loses at their own pace and this can slow down or speed up at sometimes the oddest times. If I were you, I would try and measure my food so that you have a good idea of portion sizes and can learn to better eyeball it when you cannot measure. Be careful and make sure that you chew enough, food getting stuck is no fun at all. Concentrate on getting in plenty of fluids as this is helping with the weight loss. Keep on posting and tell us more about you!

Welcome! I am so glad to hear that you're following your surgeon's advice. I can absolutely guarantee that if you keep doing what you're doing, you WILL get to goal weight. DON"T worry about little pauses in your progress. You're going to make it. One year from now (or less), you're going to be absolutely thrilled with your results.

Thanks for your response. I was told how many oz I should be eating during the first four weeks. Once my Dr. released me to eat all foods he didn't tell what amount I should be eating then. Should I be only eating 4 oz or 6 oz? Not sure how much I should measure out.

How about 5? I think as long as you're getting your grams of protein in, and keeping your calories down, if 4 satisfies your appetite eat 4. It's hard to make a fast rule, as some days you'll feel hungrier. I think the less the better, as long as you don't feel starved or depleted.

Does that help?

It really is nice to have someone who understands what doing. My mom is very supportive (she's having lap band the first week in January).

When my Dr. released me to a full diet I don't recall him talking about protein. I know they told me that protein shakes were not necessary. However, I have read so much info that it seems very clear that protein is very important. So, I do try to make sure that I eat my protein first and then other food if I have room.

I started out at 223 (kinda a light weight for WLS but I have other issues that made it necessary). I am down to 185 and my goal is 130. I hope to be near goal my spring or early summer. However, I'm just taking it one day at a time. It's a thrill to get on the scale and see another lb gone. I used to get on the scale and cry about another lb gained. nature-smiley-008.gif

Lori,

Congratulations! You just keep going & you'll be down to goal weight in no time. There is a lot of information on this site. It should be of help to you.

My surgeon requires 60 grams protein & 64 oz liquid daily. He's been doing this for almost 30 years, so I think he knows something. LOL If your doctor didn't tell you how much protein he/she wants you to have I'd ask. Each program has its own set of rules & requirements. In reading the posts here I can see that there are many programs/surgeons that aren't as structured as the one I have. I'm very thankful to have the one I have. They don't leave me hanging, wondering what I'm supposed to do. It is all spelled out for me. I do know you need the protein no matter how little was said about it. Ask!

I'm surprised they said you wouldnt' need protein shakes. I have to use protein supplements to get all of mine in some days. I like the Unjury supplements. There is a lot you can do with them & they don't taste bad.

Good luck on your journey. You will be a success! And these gals & guys in the neighborhood will be very helpful to you.

HI Lori and WELCOME to the Neighborhood! Great to have you here - and the advice from the Neighbors has been great.

Protein is extremely important, not just for weight loss, but for weight maintenance for years to come. The reason protein is so important is because your body will use it for energy rather than convert it stored energy (fat) and it boosts your metabolism because it is the most difficult food component to digest (protein vs. carbohydrate or fat). That means to digest protein your body needs to burn some stored energy just to t get the job done. Pretty cool.

My current favorite go-to protein is turkey roast by Jenny-O. It's a boneless rolled turkey breast, some come flavored, roasts in about 90 minutes and easy to slice and portion. Also quite filling when I follow the liquid restrictions - 4 ounces make me turkey-happy!

Hope some of this helps and I'm glad to have you here!

Before I had the surgery I had to go to a nutrition center and there they did talk a lot about protein and the protein shakes. I ordered the Unjury and when I asked the Dr.'s nurse about when to start it she wasn't real happy that the nutrition center told me that I would need the shakes. I may just go back to it anyway.

Thanks for the advice....
