Okay everybody, the deadline is drawing near. Please, go through your recipes and get some submitted to the Holiday Cookbook! We only have til the end of this month to get them all in. Won't you take a few minutes and find just one recipe that you can submit to the cookbook? If everyone did that, we would have a mountain of recipes to go through and just think how much fun it would be to have so many contributors!!!!

Great reminder Celadon! It really is important to have a cross section of cooks and variety of recipes that will serve our community well.
And don't forget to take pictures-- We are planning to have custom pictures for section dividers and all pictures submitted will be considered for publication. Email your .jpg file to livingafterwls@gmail.com

Kaye, you are welcome to use any of the pictures that I have already posted here if you think they are good enough. They are all .jpg files. Also, if you go to the link to my pictures under my signature, there are a TON of pictures that I have stored in flikr and you can use any of those you like too.

Celadon,
I haven't been ignoring your pleas for recipes. I'd love to provide some but I am very new to WLS & I just got off of soft diet and don't really have any recipes to give. I am going to play w/ some of my favorites to get the sugar & fat down & may be ready for the next one.
It is so nice that you are compiling a new cookbook, though.

Hey BeJean --- Love your avatar picture! You are certainly welcome to submit some favorites and, with your permission, Celadon and I can tweak them to meet the requirements of the WLS patient - we'd love to have you included in this second cookbook.
I just checked: we have 218 recipes from 20 contributors (Not counting Recipe of the Week reprints). So we have room for lots more - 182 more needed. Jump on in folks!!!

Okay... so I just added 2 more recipes into the Holiday Cookbook. We are still short a bit. I urge all the neighbors to include recipe before y'all go out tonight. Post it right here and it can be added. Now for my call to arms!
Think of it this way...
Kaye goes above and beyond for us - all of us! EVERYDAY. She created and maintains this special place for all of us - EVERYDAY!!!! I don't know how she does it, I don't think she sleeps. Kaye does all of this for us because she wants too. Have all of us thanked her for EVERYTHING she does? Why not add recipe to a cookbook that will help generate income for the upkeep of the Neighborhood so that membership fees stay low. I can't think of a better way to thank Kaye. She is one special lady. C'mon people let's make this happen! Now, is one recipe really too much to ask for?

(((Marla))) you are my angel! Thanks for saying what you did cause it defines a little something that each of us can do not only to give back to Kaye, but to ourselves as we reap the benefits of a new cookbook!

Ok here goes. Here's my first recipe posting. I couldn't work out how to submit it and Celadon must have missed my PM reqesting that info so I'll post it here and someone will grab it I know.
I made this for 2 family gatherings for Christmas Day (we have BBQ's down here remember) and I got a lot of good comments and requests for the recipe. The most disappointing thing for me was that there were no leftovers for me to bring home! hehehe Hope you try this and enjoy. Just as a side note I found that the orzo pasta didn't fill me up as quickly as other pastas do so I think I'll be looking at using this in other recipes from time to time.
Orzo, Tomato, Asparagus and Avocado Salad
2 Cups orzo pasta (can also use Risoni)
6 Stalks asparagus
4 Medium tomatoes (or 8-10 cherry/cocktail tomatoes)
3 Spring Onions
2 Avocados

1. Cook orzo in boiling, salted water for 5 to 8 minutes and drain
2. Wash asparagus, snap off woody ends and place asparagus in a fry pan of simmering water. Cook, covered, for 5 minutes. Drain and cut each spear into four pieces
3. Place orzo and asparagus in a large serving bowl
4. Wash tomatoes and cut into wedges. If using cherry tomatoes cut in half
5. Wash spring onions and chop finely
6. Cut avocadoes in half, remove stones and skin and slice then cut into small chunks
7. Mix vegetables through orzo mixture with dressing
Lemon and Basil Dressing
¼ Cup lemon juice
1 Tsp grated lemon rind
2 Tblsp chopped fresh basil
1 Clove garlic, crushed
¼ Cup oil
Freshly ground black pepper
½ Teaspoon salt
Blend all ingredients and mix into orzo salad

NOTE: I found that this was nicer after leaving for a few hours for the dressing to be absorbed. Mix through again before serving. Could also add a meat like ham or smoked chicken to make a complete meal

I just added it. Celadon will proof it! Wahoooo teamwork. Who is next?
Today is the last day to add recipes for the Holiday Cookbook. I am urging EVERY neighbor to contribute at least one recipe before the close of 2007 tonight. We are still short recipes. Please. You can pm them to me to add or to Celadon. Heck or post them in the Holiday Cookbook thread over in Community Kitchen and they will be added. I am only asking for one recipe from each and every one of you! One recipe isn't much!

Thanks to you both Marla and Barbara S! The recipe looks good. I will have time later to proof it. For now, I am still adding recipes to get them in before the deadline. There is still time to proof but we are running out of time for recipes submitting.
Barbara, sorry, I never got a PM from you but thanks for being persistant enough to post the recipe here!
