At 8 weeks out I do find that life is getting a whole lot easier getting both liquids and proteins in. It's so nice to have more food choices too.

The funny part now is finding out that I can eat a food item with no problem one time and then the next time I try it I gag just looking at it on the plate. Breakfast food just will not go down anytime of the day, but I did try one half of a patty of vegetable egg foo young (a one time special treat) and had no problem.

Tried steamed shrimp (2) and had no problem, the next day tried it again and no way. Same problem with beef, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Chicken seems to be okay almost all of the time. If my hair starts to fall out, I'm afraid feathers may start sprouting, lol.

The posts on the various boards in the neighborhood have been very helpful. It's nice to know other have had similar experiences (reassuring to hear I'm not the only one experiencing these quirks) and all the tips to avoid these problems are great.

Hey, Sandiered!!

Glad to see your post. I had my surgery the day after you. I have the same problem. Some friends, who had their surgeries long ago, have told me to just wait awhile and try the food again. Then, a couple days ago I read a post that said some people have problems if they microwave leftovers. I'm wondering if that is why I have had problems on a second time with a food that was OK the first time. I guess it's a continual learning process for us.

Keep us informed if you find a resolution to the problem.

Best wishes for your journey to good health!

Jeanie

Monday, I will be five months out and I still experience that problem. It is really hard to plan meals when you don't know if you can eat something from one day to the next. All I can say is that it is a problem that I don't mind having considering how much weight I have already lost and how good I feel now. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, our stomachs will settle down and we can eat certain foods on a regular basis.

Yeah Sandie,
I'm right there with you!!!! Somedays I just can NOT face shrimp. It's gotta be cleaned really well. It's got to be aesthetically pleasing. I find I'm a lot more picky than I used to be! I think this is a good thing, but I feel really sheepish because I used to hate "prissy females" who "acted" squeamish at the food presented to them! Now I'm the worst of the pack... sigh...

I have to say that re-heated microwave food still doesn't sit well for me and I am almost a year out. I have to heat it on a very low setting and just until it is warm. No hot left overs for me! If you have a food saver it works alot better to reheat in boiling water in the bag. Microwaves do something to the texture of the food and make it more rubbery or something. So i try to stay away from it. I also don't eat much chicken or turkry as it still doesn't agree with me. I hope things get better soon! But i do love shrimp and scallops as long as they aren't overcooked. Weird huh?

Gina, I'm so glad that you brought this up. I keep forgetting it, and wonder why I'm now so "fussy" about not being able to eat left-overs! HA!!! I feel like Sherlock Holmes trying to put this mystery to bed. I remember the first year, I had such hopes that I could take all the extra meat and put it in little tubs and nuke it for my lunch... That just didn't happen. I'd take a bite or two and yuk! Just couldn't stand it. Would rather go hungry!

I kept trying to force myself to quit being a prissy and just eat it, it was good for me, etc...no dice. if I forced myself, my lil tummy was unhappy and I was still hungry.

Since you posted this, and this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've read this on here, it's like a light bulb going off in my head! EUREKA!!! Or as Sherlock says, "Watson, I think you may be on to something!"

Thank you for helping me out here.

Behold: the POWER of the hood!

I think that my surgeon reinforced my pouch with steel. I live on microwaved food...and I am usually sucking it down at about 1000 degrees. Hot! Nothing seems to bother my little friend down there...she just doesn't appreciate when I fill her beyond capacity. Oh, and she hates it when I think that nuts would be a good snack. Pain!
Sandi
It's not the temperature, it's the tough, rubbery texture. It just sits in my gut like a blob of gluten. Nuts don't bother me at all! Viva la difference!
