What is the rule on chewing gum. I read that if you swallow the gum it may become stuck in the pouch and cause a blockage. Is this true? Is chewing gum to be avoided forever after RNY?

I was told "no chewing gum." I think it has to do with sucking in air as you chew. That's just what I was told.

Too scary of a prospect for me. I chew Ice and occasionally I'll have sugar free mentos now.

Picture it...the opening to your stomach is the size of an eraser head. You swallow down a piece of Trident. OH THE AGONY!
If you have NEVER swallowed your gum before, then I dont't think that it is an issue. However, if you have a history of "oops...I swallowed my gum" then don't even go there!

I too was tols no gum, however....I agree with Kim that if swallowing has never been an issue, I personally chew. It really healps me with my breating if I chew gum when I run. I think if there is ANY history or enjoyment of swallowing gum though you're just looking for a painfully bad experience.
Just my thoughts....
