So, I was thinkin' that referring to my newly reduced stomach as "Pouch" just seems so impersonal. I name my cars, so why not name my pouch?
So, meet Lucille. She's been pretty good to me so far, except she isn't too fond of turkey & I don't like the 1 1/2 hours of suffering it produces for us. I haven't had to sing to her yet, "You picked a fine time to heave me, Lucille" and hope to never sing that little ditty. (Am I warped, or what!)
So, I mentioned Lucille on live chat and Mickeefynn has now named her pouch "Towanda!" I like it. Marla tells us she is calling hers "Buttercup." Denise72, having her WLS on 1/14, mentioned she may name hers too.
So, Mickee thought I should post this for any others who might like the idea. If you do give your pouch a name, please post so we will know.

Great Jeanie & Lucille! Lucille was BB King's guitar, too, I think.
So yeah... it's me and Towanda Pouchworthy...
Marla mentions she's considering Buttercup, named after the Princess in
the Movie, Princess Bride (Great flick!)
Get creative folks... You could have Homer The Stomer (stoma?) or ... well.... I'll stop there.

Hello ladies and gents,
my vsg is my monster. it gives me a hard time at lossing weight. finally since Nov. 07, the scale finally moved, ok, it is only 1/2 lb. but it moved. i don't know what the problem is! i am getting 80 grams of protein every day, also drink a lot of water. i eat one meal, carefully, mostly fish and salad or vegs. the weight just will not come off. i have started walking everyday 3/4 mile, working up to 1 mile a day then hopefully more. MY MONSTER, just will not let it go.......lol

Cougar,
Something doesn't sound right to me. You are only eating 1 meal and drinking protein the rest of the day? I have only heard of people being told to eat 3 to 6 meals, never only 1. I think a call to your nutritionist or surgeon's office to make sure that is what you should do would be in order. Especially since the weight isn't coming down.
By the way, what does VSG mean? I've seen it before, but never asked.

Mickee, my first thought before I opened this post was TAWANDA! too. How funny. We must have very similar twisted senses of humor. But I have to confess that when I think of my "pouch", I don't think of it as a pouch. I have a very tender love for what I call affectionately, "my 'lil tummy." I know that is so childish, but when I think of what my body does for me, what it has gone through for me, I feel such a deep appreciation, respect and love for it. I love my lil tummy. I never used to think of it before, now I think of it almost like a beloved friend and pet.
Kooky!

@ cougar: once you get your exercise up, you'll start losing weight like mad. you're not doing anything wrong. In fact I think it's admirable that you are working as hard as you are. I've read that VSG people get hungry more often that DS or RnY folk...Don't know if that's fact or fable, but if you're really hungry, it makes it tough. I chew ice when I'm just "sortof" hungry and it helps with the head hunger a lot. Best wishes.

I love the thought of your li'l tummy, Sandi..... awwwwwwwwwwwww
I know what you mean... and I think personifying the pouch can only help us to see
it as something to be cared for and respected.
Jeanie and the rest of you have opened my eyes to this friend, so near to
my heart or intestines or somewhere like that.
Funny about the Towanda, name! The AMAZON Who can do ALL! when it's
such a tiny entity... We do have the same sick sense of humor I guess. I take that
as a compliment. There's always "Two-wanda" or "Towandette"
The possibilities are endless!

Hey everybody I really enjoyed the live chat last night. Tons of good information. I got my java script updated so hopefully next week I won't keep getting kicked off again.
After long thought about my soon-to-be-pouch, I decided to wait until we meet on the 14th and see how we are going to get along. As when I had my 3 boys I will try to come up with a list of names and then after we become familiar with each other I will choose. I'll keep you posted.

Doug,
I love Oscar the Pouch. and I hope he is not a grouch to you.
I am going to have to think on this one a bit. I don't have a name but I do treat it as if it has its own will and mind. "My pouch is grouchy today." "My pouch and I are not getting along."
I am going to have to ponder
BTW
I love Princess Bride. I got a tshirt for my birthday that looks like the movie cover. It is my fave.

I see you are a fellow southerner and are having your surgery the day after mine. I go Monday for a day of preop stuff and Thursday back to the Dr. So its finally starting to seem real, wahoo in a little over a week! Best of luck to you on your surgery. I'm still thinking about what to name my pouch, have a few names in mind.

I have been thinking about this off and on since the thread was started. I wasn't going to name my pouch at all but now I have decided to call mine Alice.
This is after my grandma who was a very sweet and loving lady. She spent her life taking care of her family and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
My pouch is very sweet and loving to me because it's been very tolerant and hasn't caused me any problems at all. Alice takes care of me because it sends me clear messages when I've had enough to eat or not enough good food. My Alice wouldn't say anything bad about anyone but she has a fair bit to say for herself after meals (very loud "plumbing"!)
So...........thats my Alice. Sweet and beautiful. Just like me!

GREAT IDEA! My pouch and I have gotten along rather well for about 5 yrs now....really never been a problem except with the "loud plumbing" as Barb so eloquently stated....but I'm just so unsure of the perfect name for her....I'll get back to you...I'm thinking of Fran (from THE NANNY; kind of loud and obnoxious on the surface, but underneath kind and caring)...hmmmm...will keep you informed....

Ah, new here, but named my pouch Matilda in the early days... saw her as a grumpy old lady who was perfectly willing to throw food right back at me if she didn't approve of it. She has since settled down, and likes routines... anything new has to be introduced slowly, or she can still be quite crabby...:). We've come to an understanding over the last couple years... as long as she gets something to eat about every four hours, and still keep the amounts pretty small, she doesn't go all batty on me.

I love it! Matilda is a nickname I gave my daughter, Erin now 28, when she was really little & I would sing, "Waltzing Matilda" to her. I don't call her that very often anymore. Now we refer to her as "Princess!" LOL
I have to tell you all, my DH named his stomach Ralphie (watched the Christmas Story way too many times this year). He said Ralphie & Lucille could take a bath together when I get small!!! Gotta love the guy!

Wow!
I am so glad that you all are giving your "signifigant friends" names. Afterall, they work hard and provide a vital service to ourselves. I have loved having "Pearl" around although she has been quite an unusual partner. In more ways than I could imagine!!
Giving her an identity actually has made it easier to be on my journey. I am never alone. I don't have to take the heat alone! When something tempts me, I can actually state something like " I would love to have some of that, but Pearl doesn't take kindly to it." I do not have to beat myself up. It takes the pressure off in a weird kind of way.
Anyhow I can't wait to hear what new names are "announced".... I love Oscar the Pouch! A WLS original!

I'm sticking with lil tummy. I know it's not so creative, but that's the way it is. It knows I love it. I also am not sure about genderizing my tummy. I don't think it is male or female. Just my friend.
@Marla: are you sure that you're supposed to call your tummy butter CUP??? Since you've had the surgery it probably isn't really a whole cup...Maybe you should call it "LowFat Spread Quarter Cup?" Just a thought...
Marla
Jan 12 2008, 08:07 AM
@Sandi - The name is Buttercup. Thank you very much.

"LowFat Spread Quarter Cup" is way too many syllables.

I think you should name your pouch, lil evil monkey. That is pretty gender neutral, right?

I love Buttercup and she loves me. We have bonded. Marla & Buttercup 4-eva!

Well after thinking about this topic for awhile and actually living with my pouch for 5 days I have decided to call her Dolly, because she has been such a living doll since she came into existence and I haven't had one single problem with her, she hasn't even caused much pain to her, now my arms are another story! Plus my nickname as a child was DeeDee so now I'm back to having two D's again.

Okay, after alot of thought, I have decided to name my pouch Phoenix, because I thought my pouch, and any chance of losing the rest of my excess weight, had died...and just when all hope was almost gone, it rose from the ashes with me finding this site, all of you wonderful neighbors in the 'hood', and my own strength again. Pretty fitting for me personally I think.

Hi everyone, this has been a hoot to see all the names everyone has come up with, so after much consideration I have officially named mine "pouch potato"......

Now I do have one question. After reading some of the comments here and in a few other topics is it unusual that I am not throwing up the liquids or pureed foods. I know I can't eat alot but I have not had a problem with it coming up. Have at times been sick to my "pouch potato" but thats about it. I guess I am so afraid that it will stretch out or just not work that I question everything. I have tried to lose weight for so long that I am just worried this will be another thing that won't work. Well have a great day
