Jana, I took the liberty of running this through MasterCook cause I thought it might be something really easy that a lot of people here might like. I hope you don't mind. Anyway, I can't eat them cause I can't have the milk powder unless there is a subsitute out there for that? I don't know how many balls you make so I just based it on 36 balls and most vanilla protein powders have basically the same nutrients so I used the one I have stored in my MC program. Of course, it may actually make 72 balls and then the protein would be 4.5 grams. Do you know how many it makes? Here are the results which look pretty good when you remember that you are dealing with peanut butter:

I usually get about 60 out of a batch, I think. But I like them a little bigger, so sometimes less. LOL
They are a great snack, from the fridge, and will hold me over between meals. I store them in rubbermaid deviled egg trays. :D

Thanks Jana. I'll change the nutritional facts in the breakdown.
I have some of those rubbermaid egg trays too! Got them for a dollar apiece at TJ Max so I bought three of them and they hold two dozen egg halves. Now I know what to do with them if I can figure out a subsitute to use for the powdered milk! Here is the recipe with the changes:

Yummy!! These sounds dangerously good.
Just a couple of questions:
1. How much is in a packet of Splenda? I haven't seen small, serving sized packets down here in NZ. I buy it in a 55 gram packet.
2. What sort of milk powder? Low fat I presume?
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm I think I might even have to hide these from my husband!
I take it these are a sort of "one daily at the most" treat? Wouldn't want to be eating too many I'm sure.

I actually 'snack' on a few a day. And yes, hiding them from the husband and the kids is a must... or they will disappear.
Ok, one Splenda Packet is 1g.

They're my favs! A wonderful li'l pick-me-up. I also make them with
the Body Fortress Chocolate prtein powder and mix in a few old fashioned oats for
a nice addition.
I roll mine in a light coating of grahm cracker crumbs ... not enough to matter.

Made the Protein balls too - Delicious! I did have trouble making them hold together. I'm guessing its because I used Lowfat Peanut Butter - don't think there were enough oils to hold the ball together. That didn't stop me - still delicious from the spoon!!
Thanks!

Question? Is there anything I can use in place of the powdered milk, or just omit it completely? And if there is a substitute that I can use instead...how much does it alter the original numbers?
Powdered milk isn't something my pouch tolerates well.
Thanks!

Okay . . . I can't drink milk either, so here's how I modified the recipe:
8oz natural peanut butter (nothing but ground peanuts)
8oz Champion Pure Whey Stack Banana Protein Powder
3 tsp Splenda
Form into balls and roll in coarsly chopped peanuts. They're pretty good, too. I'm looking forward to trying them after they've been refrigerated.

Try using 1 cup PB + 1 cup protein powder (I'd add it slowly and stop if it gets too dry - remember that they'll still stick even if just a little dry).

Marianna...
Here's how I make them... NO MILK..
4 scoops any flavored protein powder supplement ( choc or vanilla)
2 cups reg creamy peanut butter (don't worry about the fat)
@ 4 fluid onces of sugar free pancake syrup or SF honey (walmart)
mix in kitchenaid mixer (makes a tough dough)
roll into gumball sized balls/ sprinkle with some graham cracker crumbs
(barely coats the outsides)
and don't worry about them! No, don't eat the whoe pan in one day but use them as filler...
craving some little thing? BINGO! A little bit hungry? Yes! This is Paige's recipe.
I miss seeing her around.

I finally made these tonight. I 1/4th the recipe as I didnt know if I would like them.
I have a question. Has anyone ever melted some sugar free chocolate and drizzed over the top or dipped the balls into the SF chocolate? Kinda like buckeyes?
Celadon
Mar 12 2008, 06:41 AM
Mel, I don't see why you couldn't dip them in chocolate. You would have to adjust the nutritionals but if you are only eating one, it should not make much of a difference. They would really taste like PB cups then wouldn't they? Anyway, I have yet to make them. I just don't want to set myself up for a new food issue when I am still in the losing phase. Maybe I will make them at Christmastime and test them on the family!

Lizelle, splenda is a sweetener that a person can use like sugar. I think it does contain sugar, but does not have the nutritional stats or effects on a person's body that sugar does. Kind of like using sweet & low or Equal, but its more true to taste.
Regarding the peanut butter balls, I took them to work in a baggy. They were no longer BALLS. It is now a peanut butter BALL. A big one! Something in my bag smooshed it!

Let me just say I tried melting the chocolate, sugar free of course. Oh my heavenly ham! It did taste like a Reese's and it was divine! Luckily I melted only a few small squares and had 2 protein balls. If I had melted more, it would have made me want to eat more. So be cautious when you do this "experiment"... oh my words.

I'm w/ you, N A! I don't think I would stop. I understand they are quite tiny and I'd want several. I do love PB!
I just got a lecture from Dr. M about PB. I put down on my food list "1/2 apple w/ 1-2 Tbsp PB". He thought I was eating it regularly & started to lecture me about the calorie and fat content of PB. I finally said, "Dr. Maguire, I've only eaten it 3 times since October." He stopped & said, "Oh, well, that's not a problem then, is it."QUOTE(N A @ Mar 13 2008, 04:32 PM)
