While visiting my Dad I chatted with one of his "senior" friends who had a problem taking pills. He had actually had a large pill stuck in his throat--which resulted in some damage to his esophagus-- and had to learn how to effectively take pills from that point on.

He was taught to place the pill in his mouth, take a swallow of liquid (not swallowing it yet) and then turn your head to the right, next to your shoulder. Swallow .... The pill slides down like a charm. This really helped me especially after I had a band fill. My esophagus seems tighter after a fill, so I dreaded taking my vitamins.

Hope this helps!!

Ok, this sounds too funny. I've gotta try it this morning with my first round of pills. Thanks Lynn! Very cool suggestion. I've not had any trouble taking my vitamins yet, but I still want to try this.

I saw a few months ago, that everyone got on the Emergen C kick, so I looked at the store and found that they also make a drinkable multi vitamin. I am trying it now. I've gotten kind of bored with the taste, and it's mildly carbonated which I don't like, but I know that the vitamins are making it into my blood stream. That's another option...

Lynn, I wanted to try this before I commented. So, when I took my pills this morning, I did and it was too funny! It really did seem that the pill went down easier!

Sandi, I have some Emergen-C in raspberry and in lemon. I don't use them every day because they are kind of effervescent too. I worry about the bubbles. I know that Kaye is a firm believer in this product so it must be okay but I still have my quirks and I worry that it will stretch my pouch just like a soda would. So, I drink them sparingly.

@Lynn - I will have to try this and it sounds silly.

I really like emergen-c and airborne... but I let the bubbles fizz out before I drink either.

Wow this really does work! Wish I'd known this years ago. I can't wait to tell people down here.

Thanks Lynn!!

Well, I am looking forward to trying this. When I was a new post-op, I got a B-Complex stuck in my esophagus. It was NoT fun! I still have trouble swallowing larger pills and never fill like I can swallow enough liquid with them.

I had the same problem right after surgery, so I basically gave up on vitamins and stopped taking them altogether, which I would NOT recommend. I have recently bought chewable vitamins online through a bariatric site, and so far I have had not a single issue. I did try this with my tylenol though, and it really did work! Ty for the tip!

I've been taking emergen C for joint health as I have osteoarthritis in my knees and hands, I mix an Iron capsule in it and wait for the fizz to leave and haven't had any problems at all and don't get sick from the iron. I had to really look for Iron capsules though finally found them at GNC.

I tired crushing my regular medicine and that is not going to work for me, most of the pills are small anyway so I just break them in half and swallow them down. I'm having trouble with my Allergra, since it is larger, so might try breaking it in half and trying this swallowing trick.

For protein this morning I had vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast with 4oz of fatfree milk, 4oz of FLAT Diet Sunkist Orange soda, 1 scoop of 23g vanilla protein powder, and half a fatfree orange yogurt.I put it all in the blender and added about 4 oz of ice, it was like an orange smoothie. It was so good. Of course it took me several hours to drink it but I figured as long as I got all the protein in by the end of the day it wouldn't matter.
