Hi ya'll....

I'd really like some feedback on what everyone else is doing as far as daily vitamin intake. I've never really been told by my Nut as to what I should be taking and I'm curious what some of your's have told you.

I am 15 mos. post-op and I am taking (daily) a sublingual B-12, One-A-Day for women, and two Green tea tablets (for energy).... I hear a lot about taking Iron, Calcium, Nexium...etc. etc. etc......

Some feedback would be just great!!

Thanks so much! love0028.gif

I take an additional 28mg of iron in the form of ferrus gluconate, 1200mg of calcium in the form of citrate and a total of 800mg of folic acid...plus a multi and buckets of supplements that have nothing to do with WLS! Just my own cocktail that works for me.

I take a multi (right now it's an adult chewable, but will switch to 1 Centrum from A to Zinc soon as the bottle is finished this week), 1200 Calcium Citrate w/ Vitamin D (important to take the Citrate & not the Carbonate, according to my nutritionist), B-50 complex, 50 mg Zinc, and an Iron by prescription.
I am also taking 2 Biotins because my hair started to fall out. It has helped.

It also depends on which surgery you had...but in general, if you have restriction WITH malabsorption you need a to take:

*1 adult dosage multi with folate twice a day. Remember twice the adult dosage
*V B12 500 mcg daily sublingual
* Calcium citrate 500 3 times a day (for a total of 1500 mgs). Don't take this with your iron
*Iron with Vit. C (between 18 mg.if you're a man or post menopausal) up to 90 mg if you are anemic or have heavy periods)

This is for the rest of your life.

If you have had the DS, you may need extra A,D,E,K than is present in the mult you take.

If you've only had a restrictive procedures like lap band or VSG, you may not need as much of these nutrients.

Hope that this helps. Sometimes it takes years for a nutrient deficiency to show up. It's critical that you have comprehensive lab testing done yearly to stay on top of any developing "situations".

Good luck and keep us posted, ok?
