Hi Everyone,
My "home team" doesn't give much coaching so I'm coming to you all for info. I've read a lot about various protein powders and which ones are good. Also about the protein bars. Are the bars recommended while you are still in the losing phase?
I'm almost 3 months out. The reason I'm considering the protein bars is because I have to have another surgery the end of February (hip replacement). I've learned from you that I will be put on a diabetic diet which leaves the need for protein. Bars would be an easy thing to bring in (but a little sweet tasting for post op) I expect to be in the hospital 3 days.
I have only done protein water (Stacker 2, intense lemon flavor 20gr Prot for 19.5 oz liquid) as recommended by my "team".
Thought you all might be able to give some help!
Also - because of all your encouraging words to others I have survived a 3 week plateau and am losing again. It might be because I began drinking 2 c of water before breakfast, cutting back to 5 meals a day, or taking all my supplements!! Might not have tried this with out your input to others.
You all are the ones to tell me not to take NSAIDs. I have been on Celebrex since 8 days post op and I stopped it 4 days ago!!!
Thanks for making this such a great place for info and support!

Hi Ro! Let me say
to the n'hood!
I have found that I like the PURE PROTEIN brand of bars and they have about 19-20g protein per bar. My favorite flavor is either the peanut butter or the chewy chocolate chip....both are equally good to me. I also enjoy the South Beach diet brand of "snack" bars...they have about 6g protein and 5g fiber per bar...and it tastes yummers!!! I have found that I sometimes like to drink a 1 cup shake and eat this bar with it. Feels like I'm having dessert but it's totally in the program. However, if you are only 3 months out then your tummy probably won't hold that much food yet, huh?
Oh, yeah, Way to go Ro!!!! Off of your Plateau!!! Go, Ro, go!!!!
(I'm a poet and didn't know it!)
Anyhoo, I hope your surgery goes well and that we are all helpful to you!
Blessings!

I like Atkins Advantage Peanut Granola Bars because they don't have any sugar alcohols. I've been eating for 2 years and haven't gotten sick of them yet!
Best wishes with your hip surgery. I have 3 friends who've had it and LOVE their results.

Ro,
I use some of the Atkins bars. I like the chocolate chip granola & the one that is like an Oreo w/ a thin layer of caramel & all covered w/ chocolate. I tried the all chocolate Pure Protein & it was pretty overwhelmingly chocolate for me.
You can discuss your diet needs w/ your knee surgeon & he/she can prescribe your diet for just what you need it to be.

Thanks Guys,
I want to be prepared with some specific ideas when I talk to each of the docs. I find they are always happy to respond to questions but I need to be smart enough to have the right questions!
