A community member asked why I don’t include my weight statistics in my signature line. A great observation and excellent question.
Typically in online weight loss communities a signature line is written with starting weight/current weight/target weight – so for me that would be (287/144/140). For a long time after WLS I did carry the weight stats on my signature line – it was part of who I was and a measure of progress.
But the day came when I didn’t want to be measured by those numbers any longer. I wanted my signature line to celebrate me, a complete person, not just a number on the scale. Though we are obese or recovered obese, we are also people with more dimension to our minds and souls that a number on the scale.
Today my signature line reads, “Welcome to Your New Life: You Have Arrived[b].” And that’s how I feel each new day when I wake in my healthy, trim and fit body. “I Have Arrived”. This newsletter is named "You Have Arrived" because we are celebrating arrival in our new lives.
I encourage and invite you to define yourself, the wonderful dimensional person that you are, in your signature line.
Weight stats are not forbidden but celebratory signature lines are encouraged.
We are people of great depth, compassion, talent, fortitude and ability, so much more than can be measured by the scale.
Happy Posting!

I think that this is great. Numbers are for the birds! "Change does not necessarily assure progress, but progress implacably requires change." This quote is by Henry Steele Commager. I like it and I may just make it my signature line!
Kaye...how do I make the color and quote thing disappear from my signature line?

Hi Kim!
Love the quote - - you continue to be a source of inspiration & friendship!
To change your signature line go to:
My Controls > Personal Profile > Edit Signature
You should be able to have your way with html.code from there! Enjoy!

I don't care for the numbers either. I have never liked to pigeon-hole myself. I am who I am no matter what.

 I dont ever include my weight stats because I can never remember what order its supposed to go in. Now, was that current weight, goal weight.. no, no, thats not right. Ok, it goes pre-surgery weight, then current weight, then, amount lost? Dang. Oh well, I might get it right just when I dont care anymore, lol.

I don't necessarily want to hide what I have lost, but also don't want that being the major thing that anyone thinks about me.

I think that a good place to post that info would be in our profiles. Set it up so that we can add it if we'd like or not include it if we dont want to share...kinda like our birthdays and e=mail adresses. Some people would like to advertise their stats and some won't. I have not had WLS yet so don't know if I will want to advertise. I guess that decision is as personal as the decision to have WLS.

I actually like Buffy's idea. I wouldn't mind having my stats on my profile.

I'm bringing this thread forward for all our wonderful new Neighbors. One of the LivingAfterWLS core beliefs is that we are whole people - not just numbers. I hope you'll agree. Another part of our philosophy is respect for the individual - so whatever information you wish to provide or keep private - we respect you.

I guess I never liked the weight signature lines. Being a so-called "lightweight" I always felt like people looked at my numbers and underestimated the hard work it took for me to get to goal. But my highest weight was 251 - was at 235 at surgery date - I am now at 121. And 130# lost is a HUGE accomplishment for me.
Don't have anything to hide, but I don't want to focus on the numbers. It's funny, when I tell people my weight, I still catch myself saying "Two hundred..." and then I realize I need to start out with "one hundred." It's such a wierd feeling. I'm still struggling with getting used to this new body.

I don't do the numbers thing, but have recently added my "regained pounds lost" to my siggy line. This is only to hold myself accountable. It's sort of like when I did Weight Watchers all those times. Gearing up to step on the scale for the recorded number...keeps me on my toes and focused! I resolve to update that number every Monday, just to keep it real for myself.

I've received a couple of PM's from New Neighbors asking about the signature line protocol here. As Julie says, "Go With The Flow" --- Here is a thread from the early birth of the Neighborhood. I'd love to know your position on the weight stats in signature line.
...... and remember, no right or wrong, only RESPECT for one and all. That's what makes us special.

I expected that this was the protocol for the neighborhood and that is why I added my weights to my signature line. For me, since I am new to WLS, I feel that it keeps me accountable. When I am more comfortable in my new body, it will disappear. That won't be for quite a while though.
What makes the neighborhood so wonderful is the diversity. We all go with the flow and everyone fits in somewhere!

I don't know how to make a signature line, but believe me --- I tell everyone who shows the least bit of interest what i've lost and the impact (healthwise) it's making in my life. I know some tell, and some dont', but I just love the looks on people's faces!
