Well i am pregnant! Found out on Friday.

Now i need tips on staying healthy during this time.

Can one still lose weight while pregnant, or should i just not think about it until after baby is born.
Gina
Chyra!!!!
OMG!!!!! Congrats! NO you can't loose weight now. Although when I was pregnant pre-WLS I lost 25 lbs cause I was SOOOOO sick until I was 8 months prego! But that is not the reccomended course to try. So just eat well, No junk and have a beautiful baby! I'm sooo jealous. Also make an appt with your Doc ASAP to see if he/she wants you to change your supplements or add anything. Good Luck! love0003.gif

Can't help you since I've never been myself, but my Dr did tell me that if I did get preg to be sure I ate more often...like instead of 3x day eat 6x day....you may wanna check out the ???Mamma thread cause that's for expectant moms...there are several people who have had children after wls that I've seen on here...Blessings to you and your baby!!!!

Hi Liese, and wow, and congratulations. This is very very exciting! When are you due? Did you know AngP77 is expecting too? She's really getting it together and you 2 really ought to talk.

Wow! This is big. Wow!
Kim
I would think that getting your vitamins in would be critical now! Google everything you can find regarding WLS and Pregnancy...and get with your doctor!

Congrats to you!!!

Chyara,
Just stopping in to say, "Congratulations!" Follow doctor's orders, take your vitamins, and eat healthy.
You & Ang should both post in the pregnancy forum regularly so we can follow your journey.
lee
Congratulations! Nothing more to add except my well wishes...

Chyara Congrats sweets!

I have been doing a lot of research and got some really good information from my surgeon. If you had RNY surgery and your vitamins levels are good going into the pregnancy there really isn't thing that would put you at more risk during your pregnancy. If you are already taking the tons of vitamins that are suggested, during pregnancy the only thing that you need to add is folic acid. My surgeons office doesn't suggest prenatals only because he highly advises taking a high potency multi vitamin and prenatals aren't made that way. So take a good look at the list of supplements that were suggested to you at the beginning of your journey and make sure that you are getting all of those in. The levels that they will probably watch the most closely are your iron and B12 levels. The baby really utilizes those stores so they would be the first that you would become deficient on. Again if you have good levels going in and you are more than 18 months out from surgery there isn't any reason that you wouldn't be able to maintain those levels with proper supplmentation.

The only other really big difference with a post-op pregnancy is the glucose tolerance test. If you don't have a sugar intolerance or dumping it is a non-issue. If you do it is not a test that my surgeons office recommends you do. There are three other tests that are suggested

1. Fasting blood sugar
2. 2hr Post Prandial glucose
3. HGBAIC

These will give you the same information without sending you into a dumping episode. It is something to note that if you are hyperglycemic and fasting feels worse than dumping you may have to pick your poison (so to speak)

If you are no longer in the rapid weightloss phase there is no need to change your eating habits at all. My surgeons office highly suggest not adding snacks into the diet if you can help it because it is a terribly hard habit to break post partum. This can be a tall order if you have morning sickness though. All of that kind of goes out the window at that point and you eat what you can hold down and you may graze all day to keep the queeziness at bay. Remember if you are not currently in weight loss mode you don't need any additional calories to support the pregnancy until the second trimester (after 12 weeks) at that point you only need an additional 300 cals a day.

I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months! It is great to have another mama around!!
BeJean
Ang,
Great info. You might want to copy it into a new thread in the "Hi, Momma" forum in Town Square so future pregnant WLSers can find it.
Also, how is the morning sickness coming along? Any relief?
Celadon
Big congrats on your pending bundle of joy! I can't think of any time in my life that was more fulfilling than being pregnant and the time shortly after giving birth! Have a wonderful journey and stay healthy, for both of you!
Lynn P
How wonderful! Congratulations!! love0028.gif
BeJean
@ Lynn: Are you sure "Neighborhood Swap Hostess" is a good title for your position? LOL
Like the new pic!
Poohlady
I like Lynn's new pic as well, just darling.

Liese, this is such wonderful news, we will all be LAWLS aunts! I am so happy for you! Keep on with the exercise as that should make your labor easier, according to those that have had children and advised me should the need ever arise! Keep posting!
Lynn P
Ha Ha! Maybe the title "Swap Hostess" will keep you all guessing????!!!!! cool-smiley-013.gif I have come to realize that I need to make sure that I don't imply my words wrong because of this title!!! It is a big but fun challenge indeed!!!! laughing-smiley-011.gif
Marianna11/05
Congrats Lynn! cool0010.gif
Sandi
Lynn, at least they didn't call you the Hostess HO HO! *ha!*

Liese, I'm glad that Ang made the connection. You two are about to be mothered to death by us all, I hope you realize that! This is EXACTLY the kind of situation that could get waaaaaay out of hand. But it will be fun.

Say girls, what color will the new nursery(ies) be? Inquiring minds, don'cha know!
Marianna11/05
Awwww Lynn, love the new avatar!
Marla
Auntie Marla is so very excited. Hey, did you know you were pregnant!

Liese - You know you want to be on the Right Coast. We can really be Neighbors!
Chyara
thanks gang!
like i was telling Marla, i really fear gaining all my weight back. i only lost 90 lbs with the surgery and with my depression episode i gained back 30-40. so i am hoping [crossing my fingers] that i don't gain much more then i need.
Marla
Stop what you are doing - right now! And BREATHE! In through your nose, out through your mouth. Regardless what grows inside you - baby or alien. YOU are in control of what ultimately goes into your mouth. Right now you need to not just eat healthy for yourself, but for the bun in the oven too. You can do this. You will gain some weight. I think when you factor in the baby, placenta, fluid, etc - you can gain an average of 30 lbs and that is before you factor in food. keep this in mind and talk to your doctor and I know you will be fine. Being pregnant is not an excuse to eat and/or eat crap. Keep your wits about you so that the peanut grows into a healthy baby that Auntie Marla can spoil!!!!

Love you!
Sandi
Liese, don't worry about the weight right now. You can work on that issue after you know that you're healthy and that the babe is healthy. Focus on high quality organic foods, eat every healthy thing you crave. Take your vitamins. Calcium is especially important right now during the first trimester. That lil baby will leach all the calcium out of your teeth and bones if none is available elsewhere. Get loads of fresh air and think peaceful loving thoughts.

At all costs, take care of yourself right now. Sleep. Eat right. Take it easy. Keep unnecessary drama to the barest minimum or eliminate it. No mind games about body image and weight right now. That's counter productive and won't help you keep the weight off.

Walking and eating right and taking your vitamins and minerals are the only thing that will help keep the fat off. Focus on following the rules.

And know that we are so rooting for you!
Chyara
Thanks Sandi!

Love you too Marla!

And the Peanut will have it's first viewing tomorrow [to see how far along i am] via ultrasound.
