Hey everybody,
Just got back from my one week postop checkup. Yeah I'm released to drive. The Dr. said everything is fine. I have to go back next week as he said my insicion is oozing a little and he wants to keep an eye on it. I'm down 16 lbs by Dr. scales, 19 lbs by mine, a loss is a loss. I'm starting to get frustrated by not being able to pick anything up or bend over. They assured me it is much better to be frustrated than be getting a hernia operation. I agree, so am trying to focus on other things as they are getting better. One more week of the liquid diet. Does anybody know if I should have the pumpkin sauage soup on this phase? I know its ok on Day 1 of the 5 Day Pouch but didn't know if my pouch is still too new for it.

I'm no expert, so you'd better wait for an answer from someone else, but I can't see why it won't be OK. It's on the liquid days of 5dpt.
Well, that said, congratulations on your loss! You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

This is really something I would ask your doctor. The sausage in the pumpkin/sausage soup is chunky, and I don't know if that is the best thing to be trying one week out. Best bet, err on the side of caution, and ask your md's office. Just my opinion

Congrats on your progress! Things seem to be going really well!
I wouldn't eat the soup. First, the sausage is not liquid and even though it is small, the idea is to let your pouch heal and solids are much harder to digest.
Have a great week and keep up the great progress.

Denise, that is great.... keep up the good work and be patient with the bending. It is worth it!
If you have a Trader Joes nearby they have a butternut squash soup that is yummy (I added protein pdr natural flavor) when I couldn't have the meat in it. They also have a soup with Apple and squash, both are ready to eat, just pour. mmmmm....

Denise glad you are doing so well. Don't LIFT!!!! I have to have my hernia repaired cause I was lifting my daughter even though I did wait 4 weeks like they told me too. Also I am suprised they let you drive already! I didn't get my staples out for 3 weeks and I didn't ooze at all but I guess every doc is different. Also I wouldn't reccomens the soup either. No chewing for you yet!

Denise, you're doing so well! Congrats on week one down. Try to stay with the thin, non chunky protein as best you can a while longer. Why?
1. The places where your surgeon reattached your plumbing are very tender and need time to heal properly. More irritation could mean more scar tissue and that is going to be a big problem down the road.
2. Protein is the fuel you need right now for proper healing of the body's cells.
3. Eating smooth stuff now will keep you from having to ralph, which could pull something loose at this tender stage of the game. You want things to be very very easy for your digestive system to process. Keep it smooth and simple.
I know it's boring, but keep sipping. This is the crucial part of your recovery. It takes a full 6-8 weeks to heal. Err on the side of caution, and you won't have problems that need more surgery down the road.
hugs.

During this time period, I only ate what could run through a sieve. Now, you can get creative with this! I used to puree a can of Progresso soup and then pour it through the sieve...it tasted like Thanksgiving to me! I only took in about two tablespoons, but man oh man, was it great. Sip slow and steady.
Protein shakes should be sipped all day long.
