If this doesn't qualify as a "Guy" topic, I don't know what does. Let me explain.
To quote my children, I finally "Joined the 21st Century."
Last weekend, I purchased my first iPod... I got the 8GB Nano. It is really cool, and I am quite enjoying it, though you can sure drop a lot of money in a hurry at iTunes.
Anyway, I was informed of this really cool gadget that you can get for your iPod. It is the Nike + iPod kit, and it is just the coolest thing ever. It has a receiver that plugs into your iPod, and a computer chip that you put in your shoe. It is essentially a pedometer that records the time and distance of your run or walk, and sends the information to your iPod where it then stores the information about your workout. So while you are walking or running, you rock out to your iPod while it records all the important stuff. Then, when you Sync your iPod, you can elect to upload your workout data to the Nike website where they will keep a log of your exercise activity. It will report your "records," and you can even link your workout to your buddies and compete against them in this virtual arena.
You see ladies, all we men need to light a spark under us is the latest and coolest gadget!

MOUJ...you're adorable. These shoes have been out for quite a while now...as your kids said, "Welcome".
As for dropping money at iTunes. Boy, can I feel your pain there! Ya know, you can transfer songs from your current CD's onto your iPod. I'm assuming that you've made the switch from 8-track...

Oh I love me some gadgets. I have the IPOD kit as well as a GPS pedometer. Anything new and electronic makes me happy.
MOUJ you need to spend some time with your ITUNES library and your CD collection. Then you get to do the playlists so only the high power pumping music.
Have fun!

Yea, I've been through my entire CD collection, and have added many songs. I never realized that Hank Jr. recorded that many songs! My kids have helped me creat my different "play lists." I've got some pretty good exercise songs.
Kim, yup, I suppose I am pretty darned adorable... at least for a middle-aged mean old guy... heck, Sandi even wants to pretend to be me! But I did NOT purchase the Nike shoes... I am a devoted New Balance guy, so rather than have a secret Nike compartment under the insole, I have to put the chip between the tongue and the laces.

Such an engineer you are!!! Smart move MOUJ!
I used to be a New Balance girl...back in the MO days. Then, when I started to run, I went to a specialty shop downtown that had me answer some questions and then they watched my feet as I walked. They pulled out three pairs of shoes that would work best for my foot and style of walking...the one that was the best was the Aesics shoe. I had never even tried on a pair before...but let me tell you, what a difference! What I needed on my feet as an obese woman was much different from what I required now.
Actually, I prefer a nice pair of open-toed pumps...but that's a different thread!

MOUJ, welcome to the 21st century! Glad to have you aboard. I finally got my hubby to actually download music from the computer instead of spending all his spare money on CD's. Now I have more money for a pair of those pumps Kim was talking about!

Hey Jeff! *hugs*
Long time no talk to....I LOVE my NIke +iPod. I don't use Nike shoes, I have a little pouch that I purchased that hold the chip on my shoe. I hate running with out it! It was so easy to calibrate to my stride but sometimes I get a little honked off that the lady that talks to me telling me how far I've gone. At times it seems like I'm running ALOT farther than she gives me credit for....I have a nasty name for her on days that I am not running well, I won't share, but I'm sure you get my drift. Yesterday I Had my longest and hardest run and wlecomed my congratulatory comments from Lance Armstrong. This is my favorite toy of all times (when it comes to running).
I think we should come up with some of our fav playlists to run to....and share them!
What do you think?

Motivating MusicHere is a thread that was started some time ago and people listed what they might have on their play lists. There are more out there, just not sure where to find them!
MOUJ, my ex was a gadget freak as well. I love kitchen gadgets, but am thinking that an IPod might be kind of fun. Mom and sis just won an MP3 player and sis is loving it. I have entered a poetry contest where I might win one!
