Hi all! Since there are so many new people just starting the 5dpt in the last day or 2, I thought it would be a great time to start a buddy thread.

POST HERE AND TELL US HOW YOU ARE DOING ON THE 5DPT! Feel free to ask questions, too.

Hi,

I'm coming to the end of day one on the pouch test. I'm glad. It was pretty simple earlier in the day, except when kids left food on their plate. I had to ask my husband to take care of it because I didn't trust myself.

Tonight I am ending the day long meals of protein drinks, water and coffee with a cream of chicken soup. I was away from the house and got hungry. I bought a bottle of water, but really had the urge to snack....my BIGGEST downfall. I am not an overeater....I am a snacker. Worse when I have time to think about it.

I hope more people join this board so I can participate in how we are doing.
Thanks for starting it.

Hi all,

Hope more people join.

I'm having a difficult day 2. I lack energy and am hungry. I had a hard time on the Recumbent Bike today. It took me 20 minutes to do 8 miles instead of 15 minutes to do 9. I also didn't burn as much in calories. I had the tension up, so I don't understand. I did feel like I didn't have the strength.

I'm going to try to do some resistance band later. I usually do that after the bike.

Is there anything more than another protein drink or pc of orange I can have?
Jenn

Jennifer, check out the soup recipes. They are very filling and provide good energy due to the protein. I made 3 when I was doing it: pumpkin/sausage (yummy for breakfast), lentil/barley (really filling and good) and the split pea and ham (also very filling and good).

Here's the link: http://www.5daypouchtest.com/recipes/recipes.html cool0012.gif

Also, if you have the urge to snack, the SF puddings were a lifesaver for me (I'm a big snacker/sweets girl)

I started the 5DPT on Monday. Started with soup. Didn't have access to protein powder until today. I've made the sausage/pumpkin and ham and bean (I know its supposed to be split pea but there is no way I can eat that. Tried my first shake this am. Not too bad. Had more soup tonight. When I was in town 15 mi. away, instead of eating fast food, I bought a bottle of FUZE with vitamins and mineral and low in carbs. Tasted good and filled me up enough to get home to continue on the 5 day. Since coming to this site, it's the 1st time in years that I feel I can lose all the weight I regained after surgery.

I am starting day 4 today. Day 1 was the most difficult, but I made it. What I found that works best for me it the Atkins chocolate Protein shakes. I drink 3 a day. Additionally the first 2 days I had Jello sugar free gelatin and pudding. I think I ended up consuming 4 in all. I also had cups of bouillon soup, maybe 4, but learned very quickly the sodium was so high that I wasn't loosing. So I cut that out completely on Day 3. I also had a couple of Campbells Soup at Hand creamed soups. Again, high in sodium, so I cut that down on Day 3. I finally ate some tuna fish with boiled egg and a stalk of celery cut up in the tuna. It was okay, but what I found that I liked better was a 3 oz can of Albacore White tuna. They were terrific and the little cans (they come in a package of 3) were just the right size. I still ate 4 Jello sugar free gelatins/puddings to curb my sweet tooth. I can tell you each day is easier and my sweet tooth is finally going away. I did cheat with 6 crackers (Triscuits) yesterday and the day before. Those slider foods just keep calling my name. I also need to increase my intake of water as I struggle with this. Usually I drink 3 or 4 cups of coffee a day. I now only drink one and have no desire for more once I drink my protein drink. That really surprised me. The good news is, I am finally down a pound after 3 days. Looking forward to Day 4 today. nature-smiley-008.gif

Good Morning,

I am a new member. I've posted a couple times. But I am a "lurker" a lot.
Today I am starting the 5DPT for the 2nd time.

It struck me that besides lurking, I want to put myself out there a little and say I am doing the 5DPT.

I haven't got the hang of moving around on the site yet, so here's hoping.

I want to say thankyou for the support offered on this site. I am hopeful, but afraid to hope that I can get a handle on this. I have failed so many times.
toris
Carlyn Ann, you aren't alone. EVERY SINGLE PERSON HERE who is doing the 5dpt has failed before. That's WHY we're here. The positive is that, even though we ALL thought we'd be the person the 5dpt wouldn't work for - it did - IF we did what we were supposed to do.

Hop on that wagon and tomorrow you'll feel a little bit more in control. Then, on day 2, you'll feel even more in control. By day 3, you'll feel something exciting - a renewed POSITIVE attitude about the whole WLS thing. cool0012.gif At the end of day 5, you'll realize that you COULD do it and that you're back in control. Your only choice then is whether or not you want to STAY in control.

Good for you for "admitting" it and putting yourself out there for accountability. Make sure to check in every day and let us know how you're doing.

Today is day 3. Days one and two weren't too bad. I really thought I would feel hungry, but I didn't. It really showed me that I have been eating too many carbs.

Today is a little harder as I didn't plan well enough. I have to babysit my grandkids right after work (don't get me wrong.. this is a treat!) and I didn't bring anything with me to eat. I guess this will warrant a trip to the grocery store.

Question-- Can I have protein drinks on day 3, or JUST the soft protein?

See, this sight is amazing. I'm half way through day one. I have gone back to this site and reread the first part of the message left for me. SUPPORT YAHOO laughing-smiley-011.gif

I've decided and REDECIDED to eat and not eat at least 4 times. I am starting to have a little confidence I'll make it through day one.

I just thought I would wander on over here and say hi to everyone!! I am on day 3 and so far so good. At the end of day 1 I wasn't sure I could keep going but I made it through!

So far today I've had:

6am- 32oz of decaf iced tea
8:00am- 1 scrambled egg with shredded cheese & salsa (actually made two but couldn't eat ANY of the second!)
48oz of water
11:30am- 3oz chicken salad with 2 oz of cottage cheese
32oz of water
1:30pm- 1.5oz egg salad with shredded cheese (blah)
16oz water
24oz decaf iced tea
3:30pm- 2.5 oz of cottage cheese with 1 diced boiled egg & 0.5oz of canned turkey

Tonight, we plan on having the tuna patties and I will be going for my 1/2 mile walk. And maybe, I will finally try those "Strip to Fit" DVDs that my mom got me. Haha.

We have three floors in the building and I am determined to get exercise at work. So everytime I have to go to the restroom I've been making myself climb the stairs to the 3rd floor to use that restroom!!

Also, awhile back I had bought some dishes from Tupperware for portion control and as I was digging through cabinent last night for bowls I found them! I had completely forgotten about them. They are actually in the 4oz size and have a little dial at the top that you can set for the time you want to eat what's in them. So if there is anyone else like me that needs everything pre-measured to take to work these little bowls are wonderful!!

Hoorah for Tupperware bowls. Sounds like a great thing to have around. I am getting through day 3- I feel so much better, how does that compute? How do I justify all the years of over eating when I feel better staying on diet? I stayed busy today so I haven't eaten as much protein as I should but will do better tomorrow. You know using small bowls and plates do make a difference in the amount I eat.

I just found this thread!! I am on day 2 and it is going great!!! I am not hungry at all and I feel good.

Hi All!
Well, I've finally reached day 5. Overall, I've done very well and only cheated with a handful of Triscuits on Day 3 and 4. I can feel the weight loss, but the scales don't show it. In fact, I'm up a pound from where I started. Yesterday I was down a pound. Guess this goes to show, we shouldn't weigh more than once a week. But hey, I always weigh daily (unless I know I'm gaining, LOL). The only thing I can think of that I'm doing wrong is not drinking enough water, which I do struggle with. And I think I need to watch sodium content on everything. I usually consume 3 protein Atkins drinks, tuna fish, Jello sugar free pudding or gelatin, and 1 protein bar. Today will be a good day, I can feel it coming! Wish me luck and hope the scales finally reflect my 5 days of efforts. I'll keep you posted! action-smiley-066.gif

On to day 4! Wow, this thing really works! I made an omelette this morning and couldn't finish it. It was only 2 eggs and some cheese. A few weeks ago we went out to breakfast and I had a 2 egg omelette and 2 pieces of rye toast!

I splurged and bought some crabmeat last night for my lunch today. I have to keep working on my water to be sure I am getting enough.

I don't know if my doc knows about the 5dpt, but I am going to make sure he does at my next appointment.

Mary

action-smiley-065.gif I'm headed into day 4-fish,fish,fish and eggs, I'm dreaming about them. And somewhere there's a waterfall, I can hear it. Anyway I feel good, I am learning things here on site, that even though I had surgery in 1981, I have never heard. I am seeing a lot of the reasons why I didn't have sucess. I went back one time to my doctor, he handed me diet pills and told me I had one year to lose the weight. That was all I remember, I hadn't realized there was a time limit till that day. Now I know all that wasn't true. And if anyone needs a good excuse for not losing weight just contact me, I have used them all over the years. I noticed someone said using the extra fat for protection, I almost started to cry. It was too close to home. I am so glad this site is here and I found you.

Hi All !! action-smiley-065.gif
I am on Day 4. Yesterday I was never so happy to get to eat an egg! LOL
Day 1 was pretty bad. Headache, iritablity. I had a headache until the evening of Day 3.(M&M withdrawls??)
So today I am feeling GREAT!! I have not and will not get on the scale until Saturday morning which is huge for me since I am on that evil thing day in and day out, several times a day! Its 12:05 pm and so far today I have eaten(or drank)
1/4c coffee
protien shake
8oz hot tea
2 scrambled eggs(minus one yoke)
and about 3/4c ground beef, just seasoned with salt and pepper

I have a hard time getting water in because I am one of those that has to be thirsty in order to drink so I am just gagging it down(litterally). Also I have not been truly hungry (lots of head hunger) but same as before surgery, after and now 4 almost 5 yrs later all I do is think about food! What i would like to be eating, what I will be eating for my next meal,,etc,,,UGH its so frustrating!!

Anywho,,doing well all in all. Glad I found this site! Scared but looking forward to weighing in on Saturday!

day 4, and i am surviving this, i only ate 3 times yesterday and drank my water and crystal light in between, and not once did i feel hungry.....i wish i had known about this 6-8months ago, but can only move forward from here, before i was eating all day, constantly feeling hurgry (didn't know much about slider foods), i have not craved any sweets or snack foods, i thought it would be harder to break those habits, i stay out of the kitchen unless its time to eat, last day tomorrow, today will be the test though, i haven't had to work the first 3 days, i go back to work for the next 4, and there are alway s munchie foods sitting out, i hope i can resist, i think since i am 4 days into this and don't want to mess up at this point. hopefully!!! cool0012.gif

I always have more trouble when I am at home than at work. But then, I was always a closet eater.
