Hi, everyone. I had lap RNY on 1/21/08. My goal is to lose 115 lbs. I am 54 yrs old and live in the St. Louis area. When first learning about the surgery, I either thought or was told that you couldn't eat and drink at the same time because your pouch wouldn't hold it. By that I thought you would throw up (dump) if you filled it too full.
As I look at different blogs here, I'm learning terms like slider foods, etc. and getting a different impression. It sounds like you can overfill and it goes right into your intestines instead of staying in your stomach. Do I have that right?

I think it's a combination of things, but a big one is that it washes food out of your pouch and you feel hungry again sooner. I've heard other explanations, but this one makes the most sense to me.

Makes the most sense to me too. If you drink when you are eating, it washes the food out of your pouch or makes it into a 'slurry' so it clears out quicker than it should and you are hungry again faster.

One other thing to point out (and I don't know the science behind it) but if I was 30 minutes after drinking to eat. I can fit less food in. I get that full feeling faster. I can eat WAY less on a "dry" pouch than on a wet one.
People react differently to mixing dry and wet. I don't throw up ever but I do get rather uncomfortable if I try to eat with my meals.

Dumping is so much more than throwing up.
http://www.livingafterwls.com/Library/Dumping.htmlFor me, drinking too close to eating HURTS! It feels like someone stuck a cork in my chest. It only takes once and that reminder sticks with you for a while.
