action-smiley-066.gif Good Morning, NEIGHBORHOOD! Happy Friday Y'all. Tis I, Marla, your Fun Friday Hostess. I bring the FUN to you, every week! C'mon down & let's play. cool0012.gif

Our question this week is brought to us by MOUJ.

QUOTE
This week I propose two questions. I will pick one winner for each question. It is okay to answer both questions. This format will make sure to give pre-ops an equal chance at winning.

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

One question rewards those who have gone out and had some fun. The second rewards the dreamers who plan to make the most of their new circumstances.

HINTS: PLEASE READ... THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A CHANCE OF WINNING.

I'm a GUY. I'm picking the winners. I'm not impressed with girlie answers, and I won't be as nice as Barbara was when she picked a guy for answering a girlie question. For example, if you answer, "I want to run with my puppy on the beach and kiss the love of my life while weI look at a rainbow during sunset sunset," then YOU WILL NOT WIN!!! If you discuss your underwear, YOU WILL NOT WIN!!! If you mention something where you have NO chance of breaking a nail or messing up your hair, YOU WILL NOT WIN!!! In other words, playing the Judge WILL WORK.

However, I have to be convinced that you really did the activity, or that you really intend to do the activity that you mention. So let's hear some really good, really crazy, and really convincing stories!!!

I'm sorry, but that's not something I can admit on a public forum! action-smiley-065.gif

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

I would love to parachute, hang glide, do the wire across the jungle. There's a lot of things I still want to do!

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?
I park a block away from my office & breathe as I walk to & from my car.

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?
I would like to go tobogganing. Just doing a belly flop on a sled & going down a big hill would be fun. I haven't done that since I was a kid.
I would like to send my son on an overnighter & skinny dip in my pool.
I would love to drive a race car at MIS. Speed is awesome!

My plans are to take the ultimate adventure excursions cruise. The first stop is ATV riding in the dessert in Cozumel, The next was hiking trip to zip lines, imagine not even taking a glance at the weight requirement. The next stop of the cruise has an excursion for snorkeling and kayaking. You actually kayak out to the nature preserve get out right there and go snorkeling! I am really bumbed right now because just last night I realized that we have to cancel the cruise and put this off 2-3 years now that I am giving host to a parasite, did you know they won't let you do all that 6 months pregnant, BUT it will happen! You can actually read about the excursions on the disney cruise website, west coast cruise.

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

I've lived a sheltered life... there are many things I have not done because (a) our family was poor, (b) I was overweight and never felt like trying anything. After losing 130+ lbs, I have so much energy... I want to try new things, have new experiences....

This summer I found my first boyfriend in 15 years... Yes its true! So that in itself has been a huge deal. We went to an amusement park WITH water rides... first off, I'm a girl, and love to fix my hair and makeup... the very first ride we went on was a water ride... I GOT SOAKED! We also went on a roller coaster. I'm scared of heights! But it was fun... It was also kind of sad because I saw a lady who weighed too much, and they had to ask her to exit the ride as she could not fit into the seat. I remember a time when I too would not have been able to fit. I felt humiliated for her. We walked around the park all day long! It was hot that day... I hydrated myself with bottled water, and even got a sunburn... but it was so enjoyable! Made me feel like I was recapturing some of my youth. I no longer date that guy... but I still remember the experience!

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

This spring/summer, I plan on riding horses. My family had horses when I was about five years old. But when my brother broke his arm due to being thrown from our horse, my dad got rid of them. I have not ridden a horse in years... I have longed to do that for years... and my new boyfriend has a cousin who owns horses... he's already prepared for us to go out to the farm as soon as the weather is nice... I can't wait! Its a dream come true.

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

I went bungee-jumping with my better half! It was something I NEVER wanted to try...being afraid of heights...but decided when we got there for her to jump, that I was done being afraid of everything, and did it too! I was scared to death, but the worst part for me wasn't the jump, it was hanging there until they let us down!

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

We are going race car driving on a Nascar track! I have always wanted to go on one of those Richard Petty Experiences...but knew I was too big to fit through the window <the doors don't open..they are real race cars>. Well, we decided to do it this summer, and already have our dates booked to coincide with work vacations, kids vacations, etc. We are making a summer of it, going to Florida...kids and Disney World..Nascar...Deep Sea Fishing...all those things I have always wanted to do, but never had the energy.

I WILL be nearer to goal by then...and will be able to move even more!

oh goodness! *spew* That comment totally made my morning!!! You're a hoot!

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

Not really crazy or outrageous, but my husband bought me a pair of hip waders... AND THEY GO ON AND UP TO MY HIPS! So I can now stand in the rivers fishing for Alaskan Salmon. mmmmmmmm. I love to fish. This summer I'm taking up fly tying and fly fishing. I might even be brave enough to go out on the boat this summer with hubby and the kids for some halibut fishing.

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

I want to rodeo again. I'm a cowgirl/country girl and have really missed riding. I'm a team penner/team roper. GOSH I'VE MISSED IT! I love the smell of the barn, the soft nose of a horse, and spending hours riding. I can't wait to do it again. Plus I looked pretty darn cute in my boots and jeans. :)

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss? I really haven't had the chance to do any activity outside.. but I do have several things I can't wait to do...

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

The things I can't wait to do in the near future... Rock climb with my 20 year son (he has been doing this since he was 12 yrs) - The other thing that I have waited many many years to do is scuba dive.. I have always wanted to scuba dive but afraid that I would not be able to get a suit to fit due to my size. laughing-smiley-011.gif

Well, I wish I was at home so I could ADD my newest picture of doing the ZIPLINES again IN Puerto Vallarta last week! THAT is truly my MOST amazing thing I have done since losing the weight....I plan to ZIPLINE my way through EVERY COUNTRY POSSIBLE that I happen to go!

You know MOUJ..you've done it. SO far PV twice and Jamaica once. BUT THIS IS A NEW YEAR!! WOOHOO!!

It's possibly the MOST exhiliarating thing i've done since losing weight! Oh yeah....and wearing a bikini in public!!!

As for what I plan to do!!.....EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY CAN! SKY DIVE, HANDGLIDE, JUMP FROM A TALL MOUNTAIN INTO THE OCEAN SOMEWHERE, TRAVEL THE WORLD, SEE EVERYTHING and LIVE MY LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!

We NEVER know when our number is up and I have put my life on hold for too many years because of being obese!

YUP THAT'S IT!! But I doubt i'll EVER bungee jump!! I'd be the fool that pukes/sh**s him/herself! LOL.....

GREAT answers so far!!! Way to go everybody. Keep 'em coming!

Julie, I may be going to Puerto Vallarta later this month. If I do, I will certainly be doing the Zip Line tour again!
Celadon
MOUJ, you may be the only one that will get this. For years, we have gone to Ichetucknee with the grandkids and taken the short route down the river which is three miles. The water is 72° year round and it is a refreshing trip. I have always taken an inner tube because of my lack of stamina. Last November, while it was still pretty warm here in Florida, we went and took the long trip which is five miles and I swam the entire way! Talk about a wake up call! It was the most fun since I was really into athletics in high school!

Hey Mouj.....go for it! They make is so FUN at Los Veranos. Funny thing...my husband HAD to suck it up and agree with me AFTER he did the ones in PV anyway...they guides in Jamaica....didnt make it fun at all and I was TOTALLY DISappointed. But hey....WE DID IT and it was hubbies first time...so it was a good starter for him!

This time I got to go BACKWARDS with one of the guys, he jumps on with me...wraps his legs around me and says "GOD I LOVE MY JOB"! lol.. I laughed then he said hold still, pushed me with his foot and flying around in 360's I go over the beautiful canyon as he video taped me! I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!! I had to SCREAM for sound effects though ya know! heehee nature-smiley-008.gif

I'll play! I'm very new to the neighborhood, but sounds like a fun place to be!

This summer I did the zip line in Ocho Rios over the rainforest....whew! awesome (but ) time. There is a weight limit of 264lb, so was indeed happy I did not have to be booted!

Something I still have on my "after wls to-do list" is to white water river raft somewhere....don't care where...just that I want to check this off my list someday.

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?
I won't go into detail, but it involved a 26 year old barista in Berkeley named Johnny. cool-smiley-013.gif

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?
Well...believe it or not, I'd like to visit a nude beach. It's all about body acceptance and NOT gawking, from what I've been told. I think that it would be a very empowering thing to do considering all that I've been through. wub.gif

1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

Well MOUJ... We have HUGE, gorgeous old maple trees around our house. They provide us with
shade in the summer but lose lots of branches throughout the winter with wind and snowfall. I'm comfy with
my Stihl chainsaw but wanted to kick it up a notch and learn how to to use rope-lines and spikes to climb
our trees and trim them myself! What a treat! I didn't get much trimming accomplished but
I felt like I was a kid again! Guess I've got some monkey in my lineage or I'm just darned squirrelly
because I'm not sure I've had as much fun learning to do anything else, ever!
This is what retirement is for! sport-smiley-001.gif

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss? dunno..... kayaking??

Well MOUJ,

I might just have to sit this out because I might break a nail, get my hair wet, tangled and/or pulled. There are spiders and other yucky creatures out there and if I don't have electricity, filtered water, a coffee shop and the mall nearby I am not sure that I could cope...

-------- and the surgeon told me not to get my scars suntanned yet or else I would look like I had a new fashion tatoo that won't go away (Lynn+tatoos= a NO WAY!)

So, action-smiley-066.gif
MeanOldUncleJeff
I can't reveal who is winning right now, but I can tell you that Miss Lynn P has a firm grasp on last place!!!

Somehow, I think this is exactly what she was gunning for!

LMAO!!!

angel-smiley-002.gif I must agree with Lynn...my idea of roughing it and camping involves a 30ft camper, with running water, ac, and a comfy bed....I do love to try and look my best...definitely a girlie girl...

Oh, but there is something I have done that was a THRILL for me...about 2-3yrs ago we attended a b'day party for our niece and it was at a gymnastics studio....they had a trampolene....and I jumped on it for the first time in over 20 years! Talk about exhilerating....wow...THAT WAS SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!! I had to fight off the 5 yr olds to stay on it...(dang it they wanted to jump too, don't know why....). That same day I also jumped into what they fondly call "the pit"...it was a HUGE swimming pool type hole in the floor that was filled with gigantore squares of foam...prior to wls I WOULD HAVE NEVER EVER,EVER,EVER attempted that! I had a ball that day...brings a smile to my face just thinking of it now...

Blessings to all!!! love0028.gif
Barbara S
I haven't really done anything in the thrill seeking department yet the most physical thing I've done post-op so far is my triathlons. Just been and done another one this morning. What a thrill!! Oh.........see....it is thrill seeking

For years I have wanted to do paraponting off one of the local peaks. This has been a reward I've dangled in front of myself when getting to under 100kg. Now that I'm well and truly under that I must schedule a parapont.

My DH gave me a voucher for our wedding anniversary last August for tandem sky dive. I needed to be less than 95kg to do that, which I wasn't at the time. Now that I'm well and truly under that too, I'd better schedule that too

Can't wait to go to a fun park and ride ALL the rides. Last time I went "I" was that fat lady that had to get off! Ouch!

I have done whitewater rafting in the past but would like to do it again at the same grade and then go up to the next grade. Now THAT is fun!

Thats my short list at the moment but I'll be looking for other ideas. The world's my oyster and New Zealand is a great place to do a lot of outdoor activities.
Marla
Great answer. I am still thinking of my answer to this. Too many adventures...
Emarie
1. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you have done since your weight loss surgery, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

Well my answer is not going to be what you might want to hear and that's because its girly but that's ok by me the most exciting thing that I have done outside since my weight loss surgery that I could not do before surgery and that was the first time I ran and was able to play chase with my kids and grandson I was able to run after them me running after my 10 year old daughter and 1 ½ year old grandson ment more to me than I could ever imagine I never could play or chase the kids I could never join in the vollyball games or the baseball I was always the cheerleader not anymore I play as many as the games as possible now the weight has no hold on me anymore the best game we play is freezetag and you can only be unfreezed when someone goes under your legs me crawling on the ground trying to unfreeze someone that is a rush of excitement….or atleast it is for me

2. What is the coolest, most exciting, outrageous, and crazy outdoor activity that you HOPE TO DO, that you would not have done before your weight loss?

This one will be to ride a ride at disney world never could go I could not fit on most rides so my older kids missed out on such a fun thing growing up but I will now for the first time ride a ride and fit now that to me is a cool, exciting, outrageous thing that I will be able to do

One question rewards those who have gone out and had some fun. The second rewards the dreamers who plan to make the most of their new circumstances.

Well, you guys made it tough, and I had a tough time selecting the winners. Everybody who answered had a really good chance of winning... well, everybody except for LynnP. Last place was easy. Here are the results:

LAST PLACE:
LynnP; CONGRATULATIONS. Normally I would offer condolences for somebody finishing in last place, but I have a funny feeling that this is exactly what Lynn was gunnin' for... and it worked!

FIRST PLACE, QUESTION NUMBER 1:
mickeefynn; Not only does she talk about her use of a chain saw, but Tarzan Tree Trimming is just cool.

FIRST PLACE, QUESTION NUMBER 2:
OneTallMama; After talking about hip waders, salmon fishing and halibut fishing (my favorite adventures from last summer) in her response to the first question, she ended up winning the second question with one word; RODEO. Now I don't know if she is talking about Bull Riding or Goat Tail Tying, but just the mention of rodeo is cool.

I haven't checked past winners to see who might be ineligible due to recent victories, but here are the runners up just in case:

QUESTION NUMBER 1 RUNNER UP:
BarbaraS, who thinks she hasn't done anything adventureous, but has been competing in triathlons.

QUESTION NUMBER 2 RUNNER UP:
Angp77 and her Adventure Excursion, which has to be postponed by an even more adventerous excursion.

Honorable Mention also goes to Marianna and BeJean because they talked about driving a race car. Oh what fun!

Bungee Jumping answers were all good. Zip line answers were all good... well, all but the one about Zip lining with the Mexican Tour Guide's legs wrapped around you!!!

Now, here is my summary. I was looking for new ideas for adventure, so I divided everybody's answers into three lists:
1. Things I Have Done Before
2. Things I Have Not Done But WANT to Do
3. Things I Have Not Done, and DO NOT Want to Do

Turns out that I have done a lot of pretty cool stuff...

Here are my lists:

Things I Have Done
Drive a Race Car
ATV Riding
ZIP Line Adventure
Snorkeling
Kayaking
Water Rides
Roller Coasters
Horseback Riding
Tobogganing
Disney World
Deep Sea Fishing
Salmon Fishing in Alaska
Halibut Fishing
Rodeo
Tubing
Trampoline
Triatholon
White Water Rafting

Things I Have Not Done But WANT to Do
Chase My Grandkids (Give me a few more years... this is NOT a girlie answer!)
Tarzan Tree Trimming
Rodeo (Want to try Bull Riding just one time! They have places where middle-aged nut-cases can go try that sort of thing!)

Things I Have Not Done, and DO NOT Want to Do
This List Primarily involves things that are excluded by my Life Insurance policy, or involve nudity...
Parachute
Hang Glide
Bungee Jumping
Scuba Dive
Rock Climbing
Wear a bikini in public
Zip Line with a Mexican Tour Guide's legs wrapped around me
Go to a nude beach
Paraponting

I wonder if I am afraid of falling?

For this week's question, I pick Emarie to come up with a question because I really liked her answer about playing with the grandchildren.

Congrats to the winners mickeefynn & Onetallmama. Please pm me your addresses to me so I can send out your prizes.

Emarie - Please pm your question by Thursday Evening February 7, 2008.
