Jules
Hi Lynn & Barb!

I started today too! How are you both doing? I am having a suprisingly good day. I am not hungry like I thought I would be. I do feel like eating though, head hunger. I took my first fitness walk in over 2 years, this morning!! So today is going much better than I thought it would. So far I've had a cup of coffee, a protein shake and a lot of water. I'm having a cup of pureed minestrone soup for lunch here in a minute. What have you eaten?

We can do this, it's only 5 days! And only 2 where we can't chew anything, I keep telling myself that!!!!

Jules
MiVidaLoca
I started today too!! Lets all work together to help eachother out! My day has been pretty good so far! I started this morning with a cup of protein coffee (coffee made with vanilla protein powder) and then I had an orangesicle shake. I also had a cup of herbal tea, will have another shake when I get home. Maybe some protein pudding. And dinner will be the Pumpkin Sausage soup.

Can we have yogurt on these days? My yogurt has 60 calories, 3 gms fat, 3 gms carbs, 2gms sugar and 5 gms protein.
BPMN2000
Hi Lynn, Jules and "Vida",

Thanks for responding to my post. I'm doing pretty well so far also. I'm a bit surprised at how easy today has been so far also. I'm sorry that
you are struggling Lynn. Is there anything specific that's making it hard for you? I've tried to keep busy and I also exercised for the first time
in years! I suppose I feel especially motivated right now because after learning about the 5dpt and feeling like I might be able to get back on
track and also because there is this support board, I feel in a good place right now.

So far today I've only had water, Crystal light, coffee and later I plan to have some of the veggie lentil soup which I have yet to make.
I don't do the protein shakes because I'm a vegetarian and I think they are made with some non-veg ingredients. I think I'll be ok for
two days. I don't think you can have yogurt because of the sugar, but I'm not sure.

My details: I had RNY 7 years ago and lost about 85 lbs. total. I never did reach my goal weight. I had hoped to lose 105 lbs. I've gained
about 25 lbs over the years and it's been very disappointing to me. I'm only 5' 1" so a even a little weight gain shows alot.

I'd love to stay in e-mail contact with all of you if you are interested. I'd love to hear your stories.

We can do this together!!

Barb

Hi Everyone,

I restarted the 5dpt today. I did it last weeka nd was talked into doing it again with a friend this week.

From what I understand that yogurt is not part of the 5dpt.

Have a great day!
Jules
Hi again!

I had a cup of pureed minestrone soup for lunch and it was good! I was satisfied but not full. I like the feeling! I will probably have another protein shake this afternoon then soup for dinner again. And I just keep drinking water.

Lynn I hope your day got better. Let us know how you're doing.

MsBrat, how did you do last week? Are you happy to do it again?

Barb I would love to stay in email contact! My details are I had lap RNY 2-24-03, almost 5 years ago, I've lost 155 lbs and would like to lose another 10. I started at 328 lbs, I'm 5'7" and I now weigh 171 lbs. I had plastic surgery last year and lost 20 more, but gained them back which is where I am right now. I don't want to lose 20 again, just 10 would be fine. I am excited about this place and the 5dpt, I'm hoping to break my carb habits!

Here's to new friends!!!

Hugs, Jules
Jules
I forgot to say hi to Vida! I don't think yogurt is ok, but I'm not sure. I'm glad your day is going well also. I never thought to add protein powder to my coffee. Hmmm....I'll have to try that!

Jules

Hi Gang -

I'm in day 1 also. My no-carb headache is really pounding.
I've had three AdvantEdge shakes, and I'll make soup later this evening.
(My tummy feels better when something hot has been sent to it).
We're almost half way through, gals.

Kressy
Jules
Hi Kressy,

I'm sorry you have a headache!! Are you drinking enough water? Aside from the headache how did you find day 1 to be? I'm hoping day 2 goes as smoothly as day 1, for me!!

Hi, I started the 5DPT today also. So far, so good. action-smiley-066.gif I am new to the site and still trying to figure out how to navigate the site, but if I can find you I would love to check in with you as we move forward. Lola

Good job Day Oners!
I started yesterday, so I'm barely ahead of you. I should read my protein packages to see what is in them exactly. I am a semi-veg, are you a vegan Barb? I eat eggs, cheese and occasionally turkey or chicken breast - but not very often.
I've made two of the vegetarian soups and when I make them again I will use canned beans or my pressure cooker because they aren't cooked in the time suggested (or even doubled!)
It is great to be doing this with other people.

Hi everybody, I am doing the 5day too. I did it a few weeks ago and lost 4 pounds, then the next week 2 came back, then lost them the next week. I am doing it to see if I can get past this darn stall. I had my surgery in Oct of 2006 so am only 16months post op. I started at 280 and am down to 154. I want to get to 130 and want this to break the stall.
So far today I had mocha coffee (with protein powder), and split pea soup for lunch, and pumpkin sausage for super. 6 cups coffee with creamer (that is my downfall, I just love my coffee, but it is decaf) I had pudding for 1 snack, and am drinking a chi tea smoothie now. I figured the calories for my day and it is 1097 and 86protein, so really a pretty good day. I down loaded the work sheet for this and plan on recording everything. I want this to work!!!!
Nice to have others to help keep me accountable, good luck to all and we will be winners on friday!!!!

BPMN2000
Hi Ann, Bev, Lola, Kressy, Ms Brat and my new buddies from earlier today (sorry if I missed anyone),

Well, it's about 9:15pm and I've almost made it through my first day. It's been relatively easy for me so far but
I did get extremely hungry around 5pm. I made the lentil soup recipe on the 5DPT list and luckily it has taken the
edge off the hunger. It makes a ton of soup though and I'm afraid I'll be eating too much of that! Other than the
soup, all I've had today is lots of water, crystal light and coffee. I've also been chewing ice. It's a bad habit that is
especially helpful to me when trying to diet. I've always been a big fan of "crunch" so that helps me with that.

Aside from a headache for a few hours (how's yours Kressy?) and the hunger, it's been a pretty easy day.

Bev, I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, meaning I eat dairy and eggs but no meat or animals of any kind. It's too bad
that being vegetarian most of my adult life never kept me from gaining weight, even though I love vegetables
I love junk food too!

For anyone who would like to communicate by e-mail for support, contact me at Sunnybellblue@aol.com. It's great that
we can help each other out.

Barb, I forgot to sign my last post. I too, started the 5dpt today. It hasn't been too bad yet, This is what I have had breakfast Atkins mocha shake Yum!! lunch same thing, afternoon snack same thing, dinner chx noodle soup broth only, and another Atkins shake P.M. and about 50 oz. of water. Hey, Vida, how was the sausage pumpkin soup?? Isabella
atsagirl
I made it throught day 1 YEA! I plan on eating the same stuff on day 2, but will probably have to add another pudding maybe, I talked myself out of it yesterday. My calories were good, 1097 and protein was 86. I had soup two times, two shakes, 1 pudding. And I did get in my 10,000 steps on my pedomoter!! I am going to strive to do that every day.

I weighed myself today and didn't go down any, but I am not letting that get me. I CAN AND WILL DO THIS!!!!
The pumpkin sausage soup is my fav. I made the pea and ham and was good too.

I did get in all my water too. The only thing that I would change is my coffee, I drink it with creamer and that does add up when you have a lot, ( 6 cups with @2 teas creamer per cup so = 120 cals). I thought of giving that up for lent, but that is the one vice I have let myself have, and hubby said I have given up all the other stuff so why give this one? I have tried to use protein powder as my creamer to justify it with protein, but alas, it isn't the same. I am not sure what I am going to do yet, but for sure I plan on sticking to this 5 day test!!!

Good luck all and will let you know how my day went tonight!

Hi I am Rhea, they have soy protein shakes.
I started the 5 day on monday, I was so hungry at 6pm. Then I realized that you can have soups. The lentil and barley soup was posted so I quickly made some and hopefully today will be easier. I hope I can have this, the test journal form didnt state the soups, but the other page did under day1 & 2, was anyone else confused?
good luck everyone,
BPMN2000
Hi Rhea and Isabella and hello all,

This is day two for me and and I woke up soooo hungry. I'm hoping it will pass soon. I still feel motivated. I'm not going
to get on the scale because I've been there too many times before when I didn't lose and was very disappointed.

Ann, it sounds like you had a good day yesterday. I can't give up coffee either but I drink it black so no exta calories.

Kressy, how's the headache today? Hope you are feeling better.

Good luck today everyone!

Hi Everyone!!

Welcome to Day 2!! How's everybody doing? It is just beginning for me, so I've only had coffee so far this morning. I am planning on eating the same as yesterday and I want to take another walk.

I was so surprised at how well I felt yesterday. I fully expected to be a grouch, have a headache and just be mad that I couldn't eat what I wanted. Even though I was excited to start, I always think the worst will happen, that way I can "plan" for it. I do a lot of "over thinking" about everything, as my husband says. :) So anyway, I felt great all day. I had a lot of energy and no headache at all.

Here's what I had yesterday and am having today:

Lots of water, I drank constantly
All my vitamins and supplements

Cup of coffee in the morning (I do add sugar and creamer) I LOVE coffee!
Protein shake for breakfast
1 cup pureed minestrone soup for lunch
Protein shake for a snack
1 cup pureed pumpkin/sausage soup for dinner

That doesn't seem like a lot when I write it down but I was completely satisfied all day yesterday. I did want to eat, of course, but I was NOT hungry. It is all in my head. 1 cup of soup was just the perfect amount for me.

The pumpkin/sausage soup is delish!!!!! I had my doubts about it too and I was so pleased when I tasted it.

Barb - I wish I could drink my coffee black like you! I hope once you have whatever you're eating this morning, your hunger goes away.

Tamee - My stomach always growls too!! And it was last night, really loud! Isn't that embarrassing sometimes? :)

Everybody check in and let us know how your day 2 is going. Don't forget to vote if today's the day for your state!!!

Hugs to everyone, Jules

Hi again Barb,

I found this very funny when I read it this morning. I knew you'd realize the date!

Yay for the 5dpt!!

Jules
MiVidaLoca
Hello to my fellow 5dpt-ers. I had a pretty good night. I ended up not making the pumpkin soup because I didnt know there was a game so I made me some quick bean soup and ate that. I had a HARD time at the ball game because I LOVE the popcorn. I brought a big drink with me and didnt get any so I was proud of myself. I did go home and have another serving of the bean soup but its ok for us. Tonight I will be making the pumpkin soup for sure since I have all the ingredients. Do you think it is ok to freeze it? It makes such a big pot and I hate to throw it away. Once again started my day with some protein coffee. I have a shake for lunch and some protein jello for a snack. I will make some protein pudding tonight too to have as a treat later in the night. Hope everyone has a wonderful day

Oh yeah, I hope all of you who had headaches feel better today. I used a packet of Emer-gen C and some tylenol for my headache and it really helped alot. You can buy it at most drug stores and I know Wal-Mart has it.

I haven't made this soup, but I freeze homemade soups all the time and haven't had any problems except for sometimes having to add more broth upon thawing. Which just makes the soup last even longer... so another bonus! :-)

Great job on avoiding the popcorn. That is one of my big downfalls. We try to have family movie night once a week at home with movie theater popcorn so I'm trying to figure out how to work this into life and maintain my goal of losing weight.

Good luck with today!
Bev
Jules
Hi Vida,

I made the pumpkin sausage soup last Friday and I froze quite a bit of it. I too freeze soup a lot, so I'm hoping it will be fine. I sure enjoyed the soup, I had it for dinner last night and will again tonight.

Popcorn is one of my favorites! You should be proud of yourself for resisting it. That's great! cool0012.gif

Let us know how you like the soup! It sounds like you're doing really well!! Day 2 is going fine for me.

Hugs to you! Jules

Hi All, action-smiley-065.gif

I started the 5DPT yesterday as well. Today is day 2 and much more difficult than yesterday. I would love to join your buddy group. love0028.gif Is there anyone planning on doing it longer than 5 days? I am considering it. I had emergency surgery for small bowel obstruction the Monday after Thanksgiving and previously last January. I ballooned up 12 pounds after this last surgery and can't figure out why. I started feeling really bloated and narrowing when I ate so I decided to give this a try. As far as the bloating and narrowing feeling I feel great. It pretty much has gone away since I started the liquids. I am waiting to hear from my surgeon to ask for a barium swallow to make sure there are no more obstruction.

Thanks and God Bless,
Jules

Hi Sonja,

I am finding day 2 to be the same as day 1. I have a lot of energy and it is easier than I thought it would be. I hope the rest of the week goes as well. It is funny you mention doing it longer, I am considering maybe having a day or 2 of liquids either every week or every other week. We'll see!! I like not having to worry about what I'm eating, not a lot of choice! I feel more in control. But I do miss eating in my head!!! But I'm not truly hungry.

Can I ask what caused your obstructions? I'm so sorry to hear that! Have you had a lot of problems with that? Has it just been since your WLS? It is a good idea to check with your surgeon, better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck and keep us posted as to how you're doing with the 5dpt!

Hugs,
Sonja
Hi Jules,

Thank you for responding. small world, I am originally from the Bay Area. I lived in San Jose and worked at Stanford and Lucille Packards for 10 years before relocating to Sunny San Diego. I am VERY jealous of all the rain you guys have gotten this year. my mom calls me and brags about it.

I too have a ton of energy and I feel great. I have found that this day is easier if I am consistent w/my shakes and don't wait too long. I went to my exercise class yesterday and am SOOOO sore! But I was up at 5:30 this morning running with my 13 year old and then walked my 5 year old to school. So I am trying to keep myself occupied. I haven't tried soup yet, I was thinking for dinner I might have some Campbells French oinion.

As far as my obstructions they were due to adhesions (Scar tissue). The MD's don't believe it had anything to do with my bypass as I have gone 3 years w/no complications. I did however have a C-section in Aug of 2006 and the used my same incision as my bypass. They think that's what caused it and the in November they think that was caused by my obstruction in Jan. where again they used the same incision. But no one knows for sure. So needless to say I have a 14.5inch incosion with multiple hernias. OH YEAH FUN! I meet w/ my plastic surgeon on Thursday and see what he says. He is going to remove the entire muscle where all the incisions have been made and hopefully if tey have to go back in they can use his bikini incision. Was your tummy tuck as painful as everyone is telling me? I have a pretty high pain tolerance but even my plastics says it is the worst pain I will probably ever experience.

Have a great day!

Hi again Sonja!

You're right, what a small world!! We have had SO much rain, it is ridiculous!!! But I am one of those weird people who likes the rain. It makes me happy, the gloomier the sky, the better! This week it is beautifully sunny, but cold, and it is nice too!

I'm sorry about your complications! Ouch! Will your surgeon be able to repair and/or remove the hernias? I hope everything goes smoothly.

My tummy tuck was awful. I do NOT have a high pain tolerance so I was miserable. I had all 3 procedures done at the same time, so I was in a lot of pain everywhere. It was just very difficult to move around. I am SO glad I did it and would do it again, absolutely! But it hurts as much as you've been told!! Worth every pain though. When are you thinking of having yours? Are you doing anything else? How much have you lost?

I would love to visit San Diego someday. That is on my husband's and my list of places to see!!

I can't wait for day 3!

Hugs,

Hi Jules,

I LOVE THE RAIN TOO!! That is really the only thing I miss about the Bay Area and the thing that bugs me the most about San Diego.

My surgery WAS planned for Jan 25 but had to be post poned. So my new date is April 18th. He will be doing my entire abdomen and my bat wings. The second procedure (hopefully 3 months after) will be my legs. Surgery 3 will be my breasts and back side. I am hoping to have it all (or at least the majority) done by the end of September when I come to San Jose for my HS Reunion.

How long was it before you were back to walking? And then regular activities? Do you have kids? How did you do it w/them? I have 4 children, 13, 5, 4, 18months. This journey has been incredible and extremely emotional for me. My 4and 5 year old don't even remember me being so big (only in pictures) and my 18 month old never will! I Love it!

Hi Sonja, Tamee and all 5DPT'ers,

It's been a tougher day for me, feeling hungry and less motivated today for some reason. I haven't been eating much,
mainly drinking water, coffee and had lentil soup twice today. I am really hoping that I'll feel that old familiar full feeling
again. It sounds like many of you are doing well and staying motivated. Congrats!

I tried to do DDR (Dance Dance Revolution...it's my kids) for exercise....sooo glad noone could see me. How embarrassing.
It didn't work too well so I pulled out a very old videotape of Tae Bo. Also very humorous if you were to see me doing that.
Anyway, the point is, I tried to move and get my heart rate up, so I get a little credit for that.

Do you all feel really bloated after two days of mainly liquids? I feel like I'm sloshing around everywhere I go. Not to mention
my 20 bathroom visits a day (TMI, I know).

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, if for nothing else than a change of pace. I'm so bored with this routine now. Ok, enough
of my complaining.

Sonja and Jules, sorry to hear about your medical troubles...I've been pretty lucky not to deal with that stuff.

Tamee, I'm glad you made it here. I think it helps alot to share our challenges and successes with others in the same boat.

To all my fellow 5DPT'ers....we'll it's almost day three and we get to actually eat tomorrow...yippee!! (Bev, how was your first "eating
day"?) So here's to all of us and our successes. I hope everyone has a good and EASY evening. I'm going to my local caucus. See you
all tomorrow.

Barb, I too had a hard day, I seemed to be really hungry, I am sure it is head hunger, but I did stick to the rules. Here is my day:
Pumpkin sausage soup for breakfast
same for lunch
hi protein pudding for snack
protein bar for snack
shake for supper
6 cups of coffee, with creamer and art sweetner
So my grand total is 1349 cals 85 protein
All my water too
I did get my 10,000 steps in too

Right now I don't have any energy, don't know what is up with that.

I can't wait till tomorrow so I can eat. I am getting board with no chewing too.

This works out so good that it is ash wed tomorrow, we eat no meat on that day, so the fish will be just right for me!!!

I have to look over the day and figure out my meals, good luck to everybody, and will check with you all tomorrow,
Ann
Jules
Hi Everyone,

Day 2 started out great, like day 1. But I did get a headache this afternoon and had to take Excedrin. It went away and wasn't too awful but I was disappointed that I got one! I ate the same things today as yesterday. I will have my pumpkin sausage soup for dinner and be done for the night.

I'm a little afraid of tomorrow. I will be glad not to have all the liquids sloshing around, as Barb said, but I think I might be hungrier. I always worry beforehand! Bad habit. I am anxious to chew again though!

Sonja - I'm going to PM you. action-smiley-065.gif

Bev - did you make the soup and if so, what did you think?

Lets all stay in touch tomorrow. I love this place and all the support.

End of day 2 hugs to all!!

Hi Jules,

I wondered where Kressy and Lynn were also, have you heard from them?

I love the pic of your dog, is it a golden? I am a big dog lover and
I also have a golden, 7 years old named Bear. (When I figure out how,
I'll post his picture.)

Oh and I see you are 46. Me too! (not something I care to think about too often).

I hope you are doing well...see you on the board tomorrow.

On to day 3 YEA. Yesterday was hard! I haven't lost one darn pound, but with some food I will see how the old pouch is going to fill up. Don't get me wrong, I am not discouraged, I just want to break this darn stall, and I will. I just have to keep doing the right things.
Good luck to all

wow day 3!!!!!

i was making my meals for today and had to get my son to taste test them for me cos i was still on day 2 lol, but im sooo thrilled to be able to eat solids again. it reminded of the first 2 weeks after surgery and all i could have was liquids and everyone else was eating regular foods, i started to have alot of resentment lol.

Last night when i went to bed i got the WORST muscle spasim....in my STOMACH!!!!! any one have that one before??? it still hurst today wow, it was like a charlie horse in my tummy.freaked me out. this morning i have the jitters but im hoping my turkey bacon and egg bake will settle that.

Well good luck to day 3 everyone party0003.gif

Hello Gal pals -

I'm here. And I'm ready for day 3 too.
My headache has not left me, it must be a sinus thing although I don't have many other symptoms and feel pretty good over-all. Isn't the 5 day re-start great?

Sonja - instead of a total repeat of the 5 day PT, there are folks who rotate through days 3, 4 & 5 over and over. This is what I am considering. Another thought - if the liquids are helping you feel better, you might start using shakes for two meals each day.

I need to learn how to get one of those little weight loss tickers like the rest of y'all have...

Good Morning all you 5DPTers!!!!! This is day 3, enjoy your chewing and stay strong! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! I have decided to stay on liquids for another day or two. I just want to make sure I am the one in control and not my head. I have a really bad habit of tasting an dpicking as I cook and I LOVE to cook. So I need to break that habit and it's easier when I can't eat. You all are doing a great job. Keep it up! Have a Fantastic day!

Hi everyone...

Day three has arrived. I just had my first "meal" of eggs with salsa. Strangely I still feel hungry. We'll see how the day progresses.

This post is a bit experimental. I'm trying to upload a pic of my dog and also add a ticker, so we shall see if it works.

Anyway, good luck to all and stay strong!

Barb

Hi Tamee,

Thanks for the ticker info. I was able to put the ticker on once, how do you automatically include it
in every post. Thanks.

Good morning Day 3ers!!!

Last night was a little difficult for me, I got very hungry!! I did not eat anything, I just dealt with it but I was disappointed! But this morning I woke up feeling great and not hungry. Whatever!!! I am going to make scrambled eggs for breakfast in a little while. This is my plan for today:

Coffee
Scrambled eggs with salsa if needed
Tuna with some cottage cheese for lunch
Protein shake for an afternoon snack
Either eggs again for dinner or maybe canned chicken
Lots of water

I have hard boiled eggs ready too, if I need one. I feel nervous today about being hungry. Anyone else feel that way?

Tamee - I have not felt that stomach spasm before, weird! Is it better today? I hope so. I know what you mean about resenting the people who can eat what they want! I'm lucky, my husband usually eats after I've gone to bed. But I've noticed in "normal" times, not during the 5dpt, when we're at family gatherings or whatever I really resent everyone who gets to eat dessert! I don't let myself, I can't be trusted even to have a little bit, but it sure makes me unhappy to watch others eat what I can't!!

That sure sounded whiney, huh? Sorry! I did not change my anatomy to keep eating all the wrong things for me and I have come to terms with that in my head. It is just those special times when I see chocolate cake (my favorite food that I no longer have) being eaten that I really feel deprived. And I'm 5 years out! I think I'll always experience that.

Kressy - I'm glad you checked in. I'm sorry you still have a headache, that sucks!! What are you doing for it? Have you tried eating a piece of an apple? That is supposed to help if it is carb related I guess. I got a little headache yesterday afternoon and had my shake and some Excedrin and it went away quickly.

So now we have to find Lynn. Where are you girl? Are you still with us on the 5dpt?

Ann - I haven't lost anything yet either!! Ugh! It is frustrating. But I do like the control I feel.

Barb - That isn't my dog, it is just an avatar. I do have 3 dogs though, one is a golden too, and when I figure out how to post a picture, I will include them! I'm still figuring out how to do that stuff here, although yesterday I figured out the signature and the avatar. Progress!

I'm glad we're almost 1/2 way through!

Check in everyone, as the day goes on!

Hugs,
Jules
Barb! You did the picture and the ticker! I am going to get a ticker too. Your dog looks so cute!!!!! I'm anxious to see what Tamee says.....we need help!!!
tamee
up top of the page click on MY CONTROLS then on the left of that page click EDIT SIGNATURE, paste your ticker BB CODE in that area and click sve. then to update your ticker just click on the ticker itself and itll update it for you without you having to repaste a BBCODE.

hope this helps.

Hi Girlies,
You are ALL doing a GREAT job! Good Luck to you today.

Hi Kressy, thanks for the encouragement. It is much easier for me to be on liquids right now. i am an all or nothing person and I think it would be very difficult for me to do food today. Tomorrow I might try food and do like you said repeat days 3,4,5.

I'll keep checkin' in. Keep smilin' and stay strong... YOU CAN DO IT!!!
