Sleep study tonight to see if I have sleep apnea. I don't think I do but it's all part of the process.

Got to wonder how deep you can sleep wired up like 3CP0 and being watched like a goldfish in a bowl.

Not complaining, just reflecting on the irony! cool-smiley-013.gif

I'll miss my laptop tonite!

Hi Nana!
OMG I had my sleep study a few months ago - it was awful. First off, no one mentioned that they'd be putting goop in my hair, so I had planned to wake up at the sleep clinic, run a brush through my hair, and go off to work. Right from the get-go it was a bad experience, because now I'm frantically trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to get to work on time. It turned out that since I go to sleep so early (9:30ish), they were able to wake my earlier than originally planned and I got to go home and shower.
I don't know how they got the appropriate information, because I'm sure I didn't sleep a wink. I'm a stomach sleeper with one arm over my head (under my pillow).
In the end, it was worth it because it allowed my doctor to ensure that I do not have sleep apnea. And, as an added bonus, I have a hilarious party story to tell.
Good luck to you. Post a message after the study and let us know how it went. I can always use a good laugh. Having "been there, done that" just makes your experience even funnier.

action-smiley-065.gif Hello NaNa, I did sleep studies for over five years, I have good news and better news. If you have sleep apnea you'll be amazed at how much better you can feel and believe it or not, you probably can sleep through the test. And if you are not having apnea then it's one more thing checked off your list but you may not get much sleep. The hair issue can be difficult if there aren't showers available, take shampoo and conditioner, use the conditioner, it works on getting any of the gunky stuff out. Most testing places always try to keep it as close to home as possible. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Nana
Thank you all for the kind notes!
The sleep study was uneventful but being wired up like 3CP0 wasn't an exaggeration. Wow, it took the tech 40 minutes to get me all patched in. What a sight! haha.
Since they didn't wake me up and put me on a machine 2-3 hours into the study like they did a couple other "guests', I'm thinking I don't have sleep apnea. Never did get really deeply to sleep but that was no surpise. Got lots of good sleep the next day, though.....catch up time.
Then there was the peanut butter stuff in the hair....you were right...que messy. I missed a spot my first shampoo somehow, yuck.
Anyway, like you said, one more story to tell when this is all over.
Next is the colonoscopy then everything will be complete except for a couple more doctor visits and then the surgeon, finally. Got to hand it to Scripps, they haven't slowed me down at all.
Great folks there.
Again, thanks for the encouragement and kind words. action-smiley-066.gif

I hated my sleep study! I'm really glad that this is over with for you!
Gina
Hey Nana!
Don't count on not having Apnea just because they didn't wake you up to put a mask on you. They only do that if you have severe apnea according to my doc. I found out that I had moderate apnea and had to go back again to get fitted for the mask and have the whole study done again! But I didn't have to wear it for long after the surgery and am totally mask free thank God! And that head goop is so hard to get off even when you scrub your whole head! I found little patches that I missed for 2 days afterwards. But it was all good in the end! Good Luck!
Celadon
Hi Nana! Glad that phase is overwith. Just one more hurdle before surgery! Please keep us posted and even if you do have apnea, it could very well be short-lived due to how much healthier you are going to be soon!
Nana
Well, it turns out I do have sleep apnea, mild to moderate.
Amazing, since I didn't really think I slept long or hard enough to demonstrate anything during the sleep study.
CPAP with a nasal pillow whatchamajig forthcoming.

Wow, I hope it goes away as the weight does after surgery. Not exactly glamorous sleep attire (yeah, like I sleep in a teddy now, huh!! NOT cool-smiley-013.gif )

The upside is, I'm guessing, that adds to the list of reasons for insurance to approve the surgery.

Ignorance can be bliss but then the truth does come crashing in, doesn't it.
Celadon
You're right Nana, the upside IS that you have another co-morbidity to add to the list for the dreadded insurance people. Plus, most people report that they don't need the CPAP anymore shortly after surgery. Good luck!

Best of luck to you tonight.

I will be dreaming of you action-smiley-065.gif
