Hello out there!
Sareena and I are going for round 2 on Monday with the 5dpt - anybody game?
By the way I am having a hard time updating my personal information - can anyone tell me if I need to fill in the Website URL, Your ICQ UIN (what the heck is that?) AOL Identity, Yahoo Indentity and MSN Messinger Identity. Is it just me or are there others out there having trouble?

Okay, I'll try this again. I did this 2 weeks ago and only lost 1 pound. Then eventually gained 1 pound. But willing to try again.

I am still trying to figure out how to use this section and don't have the time to sit and explore with my limited computer knowledge. I did the 5 day, started last monday[4th] I have lost 10 pounds so far of the huge gain I had--I am feeling my pouch but scared the weight loss will stop--Is it safeto keep using the 5 day over and over? I may start with you tomorrow ormay give myself this week to see if the weight loss continues

I did it 2 weeks ago too,,waited one week inbetween. I just like not having to think about what to eat. I like the control. I dont see why one couldnt keep doing it. Congrats on your 10lbs loss!!!!

I'm thinking about jumping on board again. I had a birthday party yesterday for my son and wasn't as diligent as I should have been. I mean, I did good avoiding the candy and birthday cake & ice cream, but I snacked on a few pita chips, some 7 layer bean dip and brie (wrapped in a puff pastry with some brown sugar on top). As such, I can feel the carb monster sneaking back in - not hugely, but if I don't nip it in the bud now, then I'm going to be in trouble within a day or 2.

So...I've made the lentil/barley soup and am making the split pea and ham soup as we speak. I'm thinking of making the black bean soup - but I love the pumpkin/sausage soup - so I'm torn as to which to make.

Besides, I hit a little plateau and figure this would be a good "plateau breaker."

As for staying on it... you can continue to lose by staying on Day 5 and just adding in complex carbs (in the form of veggies). My only concern about staying on the 5dpt indefinitely is the fact that the calories are so low, you might shut down your metabolism if you stay on it for too long.

I have decided to eat the soups for lunch, protein and veg for dinner and protein for breakfast. I love soup especially when it is cold, tried the sausage pumpkin and ham and pea--enjoyed them both--is there any reason you cant use rinsed canned black beans in the soup and more vegetables. I am doing well again today--the monster has been beaten this round. Thanks for your words of encouragement

You could probably use canned beans, but keep the veggies the same. The goal is to get as much protein as possible in your 1 cup serving. Adding more veggies just takes up space.

That being said, if you chose to make the soup for "day 6", you could add all the veggies you want.

lan, I'm confused by your statement "I have decided to eat the soups for lunch, protein and veg for dinner and protein for breakfast." Are you doing the 5dpt or are you on Day 6?

I started the 5 dpt on January 29th and have been on day 5 since then. I don't know what I have lost, since I have not weighed, but can feel it in my clothes. I definitely found my pouch again and am very excited about being in control again!! cool0012.gif

I'm starting tomorrow too. I started this the first time on Saturday the 2nd and managed to get through day 3, but stopped early due to a death in the family and the travel that was associated. I'm really excited to start again!!! Good Luck Everyone!!

I am re- starting the 5dpt tomorrow also, I just finished making the pumpkin and sausage soup, and am making the ham and split pea soup as we speak, I live in a little podunk and couldn't find split peas so I replaced it with broccoli crowns?? what do you think? Also can you give me some examples of veggies that are complex carbs for future reference? thanks. Last week I only made it to day 3 and didn't do very well. I am determined to do better this week. I rid my house of all the carbs and bad snacks and I am taking a picture of me before my surgery to work and posting next to the candy jar....everyone will see it, but I a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. I have very little will power and I need the reminder of why I am doing this. nature-smiley-001.gif Lola

Good luck to everyone!!! I followed the 5dpt to the T the first time I did it and even though yes I did lose a few lbs it was more about getting in touch with my long lost pouch. I listened to it,felt it and was amazed that I walked by my fiance eating pizza,it smelled really good but I didnt want any of it. Thats more than losing a lb to me right now.

cool0012.gif I've set little mini goals for myself for each day of the week and posted them on post it notes here at my computer AND on the hood thingy above my stove!! I also bought a new FUN workout dvd!!! Cardioke with Billy Blanks Jr

I'm psyched and ready to go!!!!! nature-smiley-001.gif

Way to go Sareena! I feel much the same way about the 5DPT getting me back to feeling strong
and in control. I don't think I'm ready to do it again so soon but I wish you good luck on your
next round.

Take Care.

Split peas are actually part of the legume family and have protein. Brocolli crowns wouldn't provide the same protein content of the soup. Check the other recipes and you might have the ingredients for them. Check your local "market" - I live in the boondocks too and my little hole in the wall market had split peas. Go figure.

If you can't find a recipe you have the ingredients for, I'd just wait until you can get to the store.

As for complex carbs (for day 6) - I tend to make brocolli a lot because its the only veggie my 4 year old will eat. Green beans are good. Kim throws out a lot of recipes for Butternut squash that are yummy too. Zuccinni, sliced tomato (one of my favorite with a hamburger patty - no bun.

For day 3,4,&5. Make sure to plan your meals ahead of time. I LOVE Tilapia and Salmon, so I stocked up on those. Then for dinner, I either bake or lightly saute in olive oil - a 4 oz filet seasoned with salt & pepper, Old Bay Seasoning or whatever other spices my little heart desires. I make sure I'm looking forward to it all day so it's a special meal when the time comes. There are recipes so if you want somethign special, check those out. It's very important to make sure you don't drink water 1/2 hour before or 1/2 hour after (this is REALLY hard for me). Don't forget to stock up on SF jello & pudding (I stick with the box mix - less carbs & sugar alcohol).

If it helps, on Day 3,4,&5, I made sure to have an "eating schedule" which looked something like this:

8:00 - coffee
10:00 - scrambled egg (or pumpkin sausage soup)
12:00 - 4 oz protein
3:00 - SF pudding
6:00 - 4 oz protein
9:00 - SF pudding

By having a schedule, I knew exactly how much time until I could eat again. More often than not, the time would come and I wasn't ravenous (but could eat). This really helped me to realize I wasn't going to starve to death - I only had to wait an hour or 2 - anybody can wait an hour or 2! :op

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! HANG IN THERE AND POST IF YOU'RE FEELING WEAK!

I went ahead and made the pumpkin and sausage soup and the ham and cheese soup along with the pea (broccoli)soup, so I'll pawn it off on my husband. He'll add chees to it and be good to go. Thanks for the help. Lola

Hi. I'm glad I found you guys. I'm starting the 5DPT tomorrow (Monday, 2/11) also. I'm terrified, but I'm going to give it my all. Since my gastric bypass 3+ years ago, I have developed reactive hypoglycemia.

Does anyone else deal with this problem? When my blood sugar drops, I feel awful and was told the only thing to do for it is eat. I'm going to look up the recipes for day 1 and 2 and go to the store tomorrow morning after I have my protein drink and stock up on what I need.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Good luck to us!!

Good luck everyone!

Lola, if you decide to try to make the split pea soup again... the split peas come in a bag and are by the dried beans, not in the produce department. Maybe you knew this, but I know a few people who haven't known it.

It sounds like a lot of great determination is already guiding all of you to a super 5 days.

Post how you are doing. Doing that last week, when I was on it, helped me immensely.

hi everyone action-smiley-065.gif I am new to this site, but already it has been such a great help. I started the 5 day thing yesterday and I feel like I am finally getting my control back and that new band feeling! (Almost like falling in love again) love0089.gif I was banded in july 07 and have lost about 38 net pounds( 8 gained over the holidays and finally lost again). i was getting scared cuz I dont seem to be losing like I thought I should. Turns out, I am eating too many easy carbs...pretzels, 100 cal, snack packs, etc. Go figure! I am going to extend the liquid an extra day so I will be on the same day as everyone else. I am real thrilled to have found yall. Good luck everyone on their 1st day, and hope we all get what we are looking for on these 5 days! I'll be lookin forward to coming back here often! kt

Hi action-smiley-065.gif , I am new here, and am not really sure what I am doing. I made my plan last night and started my 5dpt this morning (2/11/08). I also suffer from severe hypoglycemia (I actually faint) and was told that the answer to that is to eat. Which led to a whole bunch of slider foods. I really want to gain control back of my pouch. I am 17 months post surgery and have lost 110 pounds so far, but never did reach my goal. I have 40 more to go! I have faith that this will work!
Laura P
Sareena,
I am going for round 2 of the 5DPT today!! How are you doing so far????
kels
I stayed on the liquid part for 3 days so far and I finally have broken my plateau and see clearly what has been hindering my weight loss!!! Thanks to this site, I realize that while I am on the weight loss I have to avoid "white carbs" if I want to continue to lose weight. Im so excited to continue this journey !!! How is everyone doing??? I think Im gonna stay on the liquid part as long as I can, but just add in a little of the soft stuff like tuna ar cottage cheese for the protien. Is that ok? Eventually I will add in veggies, but I dont want to break this momentum. sport-smiley-001.gif sign0031.gif
toris
Like pretzels, cottage cheese can be a slider food for some people. I'd stick to soft "solid" protein (if that makes sense).

Thanks toris, I see your point about it being a slider food. The only saving grace for cottage chz is that it doesnt tend to set up the cravings the way starches do for me. Seems like I need to totally avoid those snacky type foods- 100 cal packs, etc or else I will just want more, even if I am not hungry or neediing to eat. That seems to be another benefit of the 5dpt...after day 2 I lost most hunger sensation(not the head hunger) and now I just eat cuz I need the nutrition and dont want to pass out! Thanks for your feedback! smile.gif
Sareena
I am doing great!!!!! Thank you for asking love0028.gif

Day 3 and this tuna has never tasted better, lol. I made up a 3oz can of tuna, sliced up a hardboiled egg,lil onion, dab of mustard and very lil mayo(i dont like mayo much). Sat down to eat and I didnt even get to finish it all when my pouch was telling me ok i'm done love-smiley-011.gif .

My real test was this morning when my boss was running behind so she asked me if I would go make the deposit at the bank this morning then stop and get her an egg mcmuffin at mcd's cool-smiley-013.gif . I quietly whimpered but stood strong and said YES. Put a piece of gum in my mouth and off to the drive thru i went!! I DID IT!!!! ( i know gum is a NO NO to some)
I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO proud of myself!!!!

Its not about losing weight for me right now its about ME being in control. Of course it will always be a constant battle but I will win ! Funny because my mom had wls a yr after me and is doing the 5dpt with me,called me on her way home from work in a panic,,,,,,Sareena I had a lousy day,i hate my job,I want to go home and eat an entire chicken!!!!!First of all ma do you know how sick you would be if you even tried to eat an entire chicken?LOL and secondly grab a protein shake and heat up your soup, lol

I am loving this!!

Hope everyone is doing well love0003.gif
