Did my first event of the year yesterday in Palm Springs and went fairly well. The temp was warm for Febuary (mid 80s) and we had a little wind. I also had a mechanical situation that almost put me out as my rear brake somehow clamped closed and before I figured out what it was I had ridden 5 miles in a head wind and this was at the 60 mile point so I still had a ways to go. My leggs didnt like it much and were very sore afterwards.

The ride took 6hrs and 15 min I burned 6200 calories and even managed to keep from getting sunburned. I beleive there were abot 3500 riders on the 104 mile ride and a total of 5000 for all the rides.

The best part I woke up this morning without any pain in my neck so next week I start training for the double centuries.

Good report, Damon! Hey with that brake on the whole way, it's like you did a double century already!!! *rueful smile* Very very good news that your neck isn't hurting you.

Thank you for the update!

Damon, that is terrific news. I am so glad that you aren't having any trouble with your neck. Can't wait to hear how you do without the brakes on!

Sandi,

It wasnt the whole ride with the rear brake dragging only 5 miles around the 60 mile point, but those 5 miles really did some damage.

NA most people wont do the work to even do a 5k so I say hooray for you and keep it going you will be at a 10k soon and who knows from there.

Hey DUDE...that is such TERRIFIC news!!!! The ride, yeah that's great too cool-smiley-013.gif . I'm really glad about the lack of pain though....for as active as you are and the goals that you have for this year, I'd feel for you with a nagging injury or pain that would prevent you from doing the astronimical things you want to do this year!. Both you and MOUJ (me too!) need to stay injury free this year!!!!

Can't wait to hear more you your adventures! You motivate me to keep moving everyday! party0002.gif

I'm doing my first half marathon this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. I am so hoping for milder temps than we have now (4 degress, -10 with windchill). nature-smiley-008.gif Also...getting the bike tuned up soon!

Hey Damon............rapt to hear that you didn't have any problems with your neck. 100 miles? Wow thats seems such a long way. Not sure that I'll ever get up that far but hey..........I never thought I'd be doing triathlons either so you never know. I'm just come back from my 6am bike ride of 15km. I was quite rapt as my average speed was 21.6km/h. I think (?) thats pretty good for my level of fitness.

Anyway, great to hear your news. Keep it up, I need the inspiration! cool0012.gif

What a positive example you all show of where we all CAN be physically with work and effort.

Thanks for that!
Damon
