I had my surgery in 1984 and was sent home after 8 days with a list of foods to avoid and an appt for my suture removal. That's it. There was no nutrition counseling, activity counseling etc, but it was a new procedure and so much has been learned since then.

I just finished the 5 DPT and now I am on day 6. What are the guidelines? What do I add? Which vegetables, which fruits?

Is there a list out there somewhere of what I should do? I need help so I don't fall back in the carb trap.

This is a great question, and I believe Kaye has a huge post about this exact subject in the library, or on the 5dpt site. I remember reading it. Good luck and I hope that someone on here will be able to post a link for you soon.

Hi!
I used Kay's list and put it on the fridge for my husband and me.

It's a lifetime commitment - Keep coming back and let us know about your journey!

love0028.gif Wow it sure sounds familiar, I had surgery in 1981. I now feel like I've been reborn after finding this site. I've been in a long sleep and finally woke up and finding answers. Hoorah!
The eating protein first, the no drinking for thirty minutes before and after, starting over with the 5DPT, it's amazing how much better I feel. I have begun my journey to reach my goal one day. Check out the Library, there's lots to read. Good luck finding your path.

action-smiley-065.gif Hi Paula, I don't really have any answers to your questions either but I share the frustration because my mother had the original surgery back in I believe '84 and had multiple complications, no support, no guidelines and our whole family suffered along with her. She was unable to eat and one of the things they recommended was soda pop, gag! Anyway, I am in the process of attempting to get her to start logging in here and learning from all the people here too. With the success of my surgery and weight loss [in '04] she has renewed hopes and now the information and support here I have found, well she is excited but struggles with the computer; she always manages to get stuck or on the wrong page...etc. Anyway I just hope the support here helps you they way it has me. I had surgery in another state and the groups here are closed to their patients, understandably, but I needed a support group when I found this site.
Your in the right place, someone here will be able to help, good luck to you.

Print it out for your mom! Get her the cookbook. These were all helpful to me.

Just teach her how to get to the neighborhood and click on "view new posts" This is more than enough to keep her excited.

I had my surgery in Mpls, Minnesota.
