Good morning,
Is a Fage-type greek yogurt (I use Axelrod, 0% fat, 15gr protein, 6gr ea. of carb/sugar) allowed on the 5dpt, or is it considered a slider food? Is it allowed if I put it in a magic bullet w/a bit of skim milk to make it liquid in place of a protein drink?
Regarding protein drinks, my question is:
The only whey protein drink I can have is chocolate. I used to use Spiru-tein, but then someone told me that @ 14 grams of protein/scoop and 8gr sugar/11 gr. carb, it wasn't a good choice. Do you think I can use it as the vanilla protein powder in the recpies that call for it?
Also, I see green tea mentioned a lot. Since it contains caffeine, are we supposed to only drink the decaf kind? I bought celestial seasoning decaf honey /cammomile & peppermint flavors because to me green tea is kind of nasty-tasting, but I if it's recommended, I want to give it a try.
sorry for all the questions--as you can see, I want to try & get everything right.
Thank you,
Celadon

You may have to wait for Kaye to be sure but there is no mention of eating yogurt anywhere in the 5DPT. I know that she has told people that they could have some things not on the list for specific reasons (fruit for low blood sugar for instance). But, if you want to follow it as written then here are the rules:
Days 1 & 2: Liquid Protein low-carb protein shakes, broth, clear or cream soups, sugar-free gelatin and pudding.
Day 3: Soft Protein canned fish (tuna or salmon) eggs, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy.
Day 4: Firm Protein ground meat (turkey, beef, chicken, lamb), shellfish, scallops, lobster, fresh salmon or halibut.
Day 5: Solid Proteinwhite meat poultry, beef steak, pork, lamb, wild game.
No mention anywhere about yogurt. As for the green tea, you should limit caffeine as much as possible so I would go with the decaf version. There are many green teas that have added spices and flavorings to perk up the flavor a bit.
For the protein, use what you have if you think it will taste alright. Protein powder is pretty much the same no matter what the flavor is.

As Celadon said - it's best to follow the program as written.
Regarding the other questions, unfortunately I can't answer.
But hope that some around here can help ya!
Blessings on your journey

Thanks, ladies,
I appreciate your help. I find the rules pretty straightforward, but sometimes I tend to get hung up on details. I noticed after I posted that people have sf pudding during the 5dpt and started worrying about that too. I need to relax; you'd think I was having WLS all over again!
I'm trying to taper down the caffeine; I didn't realize how much I was drinking. My nut is really nuts (LOL) about caffeine; she wouldn't allow it at all, but since the surgeon (Dr. Garber) allows 16 oz a day, she has to go along with him.
TGIF!

I wouldn't advise giving up caffeine while doing the 5DPT...it's tough enough due to the carb cravings! Why add to the misery? Pick another time.
I wouldn't advise regular yogurt, only because the carbs are so high...but the FAGE is a bit different. Lots of good protein there. If you wanted to use it in your shakes, I don't see that as being an issue. Also, I like to use it in place of mayo when mixing up my canned chicken...a spoonful of FAGE with some mustard...yummo!

Kim, you're right about the coffee--I am trying to keep to the 16 oz limit--I've gotten into the habit of drinking it during the day @ work when I should be drinking water! I think I'm excited about this!

If I am not mistaken Green Tea is decaf, naturally, and it is always a good addition to your daily liquid intake because of it's antioxidant properties... As for the Fage yogurt, I'd say go for it it'll boost your protein intake with your shake only being 15g per scoop, which in turn should keep you satisfied longer. As for other brands of protein powder I like the following:
1)Designer Whey (thanks to LynnP... go to www.designerwhey.com for a coupon to try a "new" product called ProteinPak2 go; mixes with water and tastes great! My fav is Orange/mango...kinda like a crystal lite with protein)...also like their natural Whey protein powder b/c you can add it to anything
2) Jay Robb's protein powder(strawberry REALLY good)
3) Body Fortress brand from Wally World...vanilla and chocolate are both tasty and they each have 26g protein per 1 scoop (1 scoop = 8oz serving)....
Blessings to you!

Hi Amelia,
Thanks for the advice. I'm very excited about tomorrow. I noticed in anticipation, I ate only protein today, and got a major headache tonite. I ate 1/2 banana & felt fine.
Regarding the green tea, there is DEFINATELY caffeine in green tea, if you want one without caffeine, you have to buy one that specificially says "decaffenated." I've tried some nice ones from Celestial Seasonings, one decaf mint flavor and one decaf honey camomile flavor. I bought a non-decaf flavored w/cranberry/pomegranat to try tomorrow; I just can't stand the taste of plain green tea!
Thanks & hugs,
