Im needing a little motivational kick in the but getting out of a carb cycle. Anyone want to join me for a one week challenge....start another round of 5dpt and 6 day fitness goal starting Tues (Feb 19th)
The goal is compete 5DPT without cheating, keeping detailed food diary, and exercising 6 of the 7 days for a minimum of 40 minutes. All detailed and written down.
Not that we shouldn't be doing this anyway....just need a little accountability exercise right now. I will come up with some sort of something for everyone that plays along with me. I'll have to come up with something creative....but I'll come up with something! Who wants to play with me this week???

I'll go in with you. How will we keep the journal, etc..online at this post, or privately? I want to get things moving, too. This Ohio weather makes me feel like a slug, and since Easter is just a little over a month away, that means Spring is coming. And THAT means more exposure. I'd like a little less to expose...if you get my drift!

How about this...I don't need the 5DPT, as I'm good with THAT area. However, I'll join you on the 6 day exercise commitment! Man, I need to get my arse in gear!
As for journaling and such, if you are a Citizen (paid member), you can create a blog and journal your thoughts/intake/whatever in that space. Only registered members can go in and read it. Just a thought...

As long as I can do the exercise in increments rather than at one time, I am IN! I will keep a diary of everything. I went from one extreme <eating too much>, to the opposite...not eating enough. So...now I will work on getting in the protein, and move move move my tush!

i too will commit to the daily exercise of 40 mins, i pretty much do almost every day anyway, but as far as the 5dpt, i did it 3 weeks ago with the group and have managed to really stick with it and haven't cheated, it really broke me of my carb cravings, so i continue with "day 6" as i wish you all good luck as you start your 5dpt, but i will be there with you in exercising (by the way, i lost 13 lbs during the week of the 5dpt, and over the past 2 weeks of "day 6" i have lost another 5lbs, so be encouraged that it reallly does work!!!)

Hi guys!
Hey Stephanie, count me in....I just spent a few days on a last minute get away with DH and had a great time but did not watch very closely fluid intake and quality of protiens...etc. Time to get back in line and back to what I need, The "E" word is frightening to me, so obviously it is what I need to tackle! I will start on Tues. and make Monday my shopping day.

......(this is me walking the mall tonight!) I'm ready, willing and will check in tomorrow for any more info!

HECK! I cannot commit to the 6 days this week! I can try, but can't promise it as I'll be on the road and staying places with no fitness room. I'm chaperoning teenagers on a field trip, so...
I'm in with the food, but may not have access to daily posting either. I'm just not ok this week, but I'm cheering you all on from the sideline.

Count me in too for the exercise accountability. Although I did my 3rd triathlon in 5 weeks this morning I really didn't do very well and felt the effects of hardly doing any exercise, other than Curves, since my last triathlon 2 weeks ago. I signed up with a personal endurance trainer on Friday but he is flat out with other clients doing an Ironman in 2 weeks so I won't have much contact with him until thats over (he's not charging me for the next 2 weeks BTW) so until then I need to be accountable to someone and who better than my lovely friends in the hood.
I am going to Curves at least 3 mornings a week and I'll bike, swim or walk at least 3 mornings too. It's been far too easy lately to hit the alarm button and turn back over in bed.
Next weekend I'm taking part in a 24 hour walking "Relay for Life" which raises funds for the Cancer Society. I will be at the track from midday Saturday to midday Sunday. I'm only required to walk as often as I want to but I can't sit around doing nothing for too long anyway so I'm sure I'll get in plenty of walking. That reminds me I must take my pedometer. Firstly so I can track how far I walk all weekend but also to set myself small goals each time I'm on the track.
So, there you have it. My commitment for the week.
Thanks for posting this Stephanie. We have to make sure we train for upcoming events or we'll be very sorry at the other end. My next triathlon is on 23 March and I definately want to do better than I did today.
Good luck everyone

Keep movin!

Hello Stephanie,
I'm in !! I did the 5DPT last week and didn't do to bad. But there is definetly room for improvement. I planned on doing it again this week anyway and I need the motivation to kick my exercise up a notch. I have only been getting @15minutes 3-4 days a week. So this will help me hold myself accountable. Thanks for the challenge. Lola

I'm in on the exercise at least. I've really let my exercise slip since my neck surgery a little over a year ago. I'll commit to getting back to 30 minutes of walking during my work lunch break. I have an area where I can walk indoors out of the weather. I'll try to get in five minutes of walking mid-morning and mid-afternoon, too. The break from my desk will be good for me.
Regarding the eating, I can do good all day, but evenings are my downfall. I'm going to commit to not eating after 7 pm for a start. Baby steps, baby steps.
Stephanie, your challenge has taken on a whole life of its own.

Each of us choosing the areas we need to work on. Great idea! Thanks for starting it.

I don't need a prize. I'm just excited to get my tushy moving on a regular basis. I started it up today and will use this space to report in. Like I said, no 5DPT for me, but my food is not an issue.

Hi everyone,
I was feeling fantastic when I did my 1st 5DPT about 3 weeks ago. However, I've had a couple of hard weeks - struggling with all the events pushing back a little. Then I go forward and get pushed back.
I tried starting it over today, but I think the out-of-routine day with the kids all being home, got me off track again.
I can't commit to 40 everyday with a broken toe. HOWEVER, ANYONE interested in starting the 5DPT again say on Thursday - let me know. I'd love to start a second group. This time - commit to at least 15-20 minutes 3-4 days a week.
I just got done reading about people who have lost wt (over 40 yrs old) and kept it off. What they did. Most of them "ramped" up their exercise. So I think starting at 15-20 minutes 3-4 days a week would be a good place to start.
I look forward to hearing if anyone would like to start the 21st.

Like I said, I'm not doing the 5DPT, however, I will commit right here, right now...I will not swallow any of the samples that I'll be tasting this week! I am faced with items like Strawberry Margarhita Cake, Key Lime Petite Fours and White Chocolate/Bluberry Cookies. Ah, the spring line up of baked goods. I will chew and spit for the week...lemme tell ya, I think I'd rather just be faced with liquids for a day or two!!!
Okay soldiers...you are all committing to good health this week! Carry on!
Sandi
Feb 18 2008, 11:09 PM
No doubt about it, Sarge, your line of work is hazardous to your health! In fact, you should apply for "hazard pay!" No one should have to spit those delicacies out!
Steph, I said it on the other thread, but I gotta say again how inspiring it is that you did your half marathon! Awesome. So awesome!
To everyone doing the groove thing with the move thing this week, rock on! I got more than 40 today, and am trying for all the week, but I'm not able to make any promises. I am rooting for you all though! Keep on posting, stay accountable and don't be embarrassed if you don't meet your goal one day. Just go for it, and no regrets!

Good morning everyone (well it's 7.30am Wednesday here).
Just posting my exercise regime so far this week for accountability.
As most of you know I started the week off on Sunday with my first triathlon. The results were in Monday's paper and I actually did better than I thought I had. I set a target of 1 hour 5 minutes for a 200m swim, 14km bike and 2km walk. I came in at 1 hour 6 minutes! I really thought it was more like 1 hour 15 minutes so I'm rapt.
Monday morning I got up and went to Curves. Tuesday morning at 5.45am I was all set to go for a bike ride but the night on my bike wouldn't go and as my hubby had taped it to my bike (for stability) I couldn't get it off in a hurry to fix it so I went back inside and sat down. Tuesday night I joined the local Harriers (running) club for their summer fun walks. I walked 5km in 49 minutes 50 seconds. Thats on every Tuesday night for February and March so thats something for me to look forward to each week.
Hubby fixed my light last night so I was off on the bike ride this morning. Did the same 15km ride as last week but managed to knock 4 minutes off my time! woohoo!
Okie dokie I'd better get out of here and get ready for work. Supposed to be there in 30 minutes and I'm not even dressed yet! Just as well I only work 800m up the road aye! (and no I don't walk! lmao)
Have a great day everyone
Kim

I started the 5dpt today, as promised. I made a big pot of soup, and it is warm in the crockpot. I also had a protein shake. I am working on my water, too. If I don't accomplish anything else except getting my water in, that will be a major accomplishment for me. I am not a good water drinker. I will drink other things, but water...ugh! I have nearly given up my addiction to diet coke. I fell off the wagon yesterday once. But I am DC free today, and most of the last month.
I am yet to get my exercise in, but I am planning that for this evening, when I am freed up. I am cleaning my house, though...major exercise, if you could see what my preschooler has done to the family room, while I was putting the laundry away!
The first 2 days are my hardest, because I am not crazy about soup. So far, I am keeping my head above water.
Further updates on my Blog!

Okay...I am on day 2 here...and not doing too badly. I gave myself 6 ten minute increments of exercise scheduled today...and actually wasnt tired at the end of 3 of them...so I ended up doing 3 20min. on the treadclimber, and 3 ten minutes...and I still have time for another bit after dinner and helping the kids with homework! Some days are better than others I guess!
As for food...I havent skipped a single protein shake that I had scheduled, even if I didnt feel hungry. Right now, my biggest issue is getting the protein in, and keeping it in...and am not doing to badly with that. Water intake has been great too...and ty for C-light!
How is everyone else doing?

Hi everyone....just finishing day 2
Kisha...my food diary looks almost exactly like yours for both yesterday and today. I made the pumpkind sausage soup also....a big enough batch to eat for several more days. Thank God my kids and hubby love the soup too.
I have done my 2 days of exercise....yesterday on the gazelle, today on tramp and abs (my legs are feeling better from weekend run)
The only thing I added was some FF/SF pudding. I don't see any calorie and protein breakdown for the pumpkins soup. Does anyone have that? I've been drinking so much....I've hit the potty every hour it feels!
Tomorrow...I'm going to make eggs and Kim's talapia. I have big spaghetti dinner fundraiser and I'm going to stay out of the food!! Have dance class tomorrow so will count that as my exercise unless I can fit in a short 5 mile run.
Kim....what a woman to work around all those goodies! However, if any woman can do that it's you. You're one tough cookie and I love ya to pieces!
How's everyone else doing????
Will post again tomorrow!!

Got my 40 minutes in today...you know Steph...I probably would NOT have done it had it not been for this challenge! I fell while walking to the warehouse today...the rain made the oil slicks REALLY slick...and I was wearing pumps...smooth bottom, no tread...and swoosh! Down I went! Sort of the splits...in a skirt. Nice. I'm sore all over and most likely would have just popped some Tylenoll and called it a night. But nooooooo...got my walk in!

woo hoo everybody is going sooooo well!
Sorry to hear about your fall Kim. Hope you don't suffer too much from the impact. Big kudos to you for still going walking. It would have been so easy to stay home.
Reporting in............I got up and went to Curves again this morning then after work I went for a swim in the estuary. It is rougly a 1km circuit but I felt I swam further because the tide was coming in and I was swimming against it at one stage and it was quite choppy. Fun!.......... but it feels gooooood!
Tomorrow morning off the Curves again and might get in a walk after work...........or maybe a bike ride? I have a busy weekend of walking ahead of me so I like to add variety. (Tomorrow is Friday here remember)
Catch you tomorrow!!

Keep up the great work everyone

Good goin' Kisha! How'd you like the Tilapia?
I got my 45 minute walk with the dogs done and even braved the weather. It was threatening to rain, was very windy (almost lost my cap) and I was chilled in my toes! But it got done. Also, I spit a cinnamon roll today at work and I wouldn't even TRY the new Ghiradelli peanut butter square. I'm thinking that my "swallow" trigger would have kicked in faster than my "spitter" trigger would. Yeah me!

Feb 22 2008, 07:09 PM
Way to go Kim! Like I said you are stronger than I. Tilapia I usually like but last night ICK! Today was great. I was able to go a full hour on the treadmill. I had three meals. 6oz shrimp baked in oven for breakfast. 3 oz hamburger for lunch and dinner. Total of 72 oz of water.

Day 5 pretty uneventful. I did an hour on the treadmill. Had 1/2 omlet for breakfast. 3.5 oz baked chicken breast for dinner. 3.0 oz steak for dinner. 80 oz water. This 5 days went well. Think I will try to stick with the 1 hour exercise.
Kim
Feb 23 2008, 10:16 PM
Hey Kisha! Great job with getting all of your exercise in...tough to do when you're living off of protein and so few calories! Tomorrow is my day off from exercise, but if the storm passes early in the day, I'm going out with my dogs for some fresh air!
Now...where is that Stephanie?
