Since we can drink as many shakes as we want on days 1-2 and eat as much protein (4-6 ounces or 1 cup volume) within 15 mins to eat on days 3-5, is there a limit on the grams of protein we can consume safely? Thanks!!!
Sandi
I've always read that there is only a certain amount that you can absorb at one time. I don't remember the exact number, but I think it's like 25-30 grams at one sitting... I know someone will jump in here with the exact number. So, I don't think that it's necessarily a problem that you will get too much. But I also know that getting a lot of protein can be hard on your kidneys... So be sure that you're getting enough fluid to keep your organs happy.

I was told when I had my surgery that during the weight loss phase 70-90 grams of protein per day was a good target, and that once I got to goal weight 90-110 grams per day was a good goal to shoot for...

My Dr. says Minimum is 70 then up to 110
*Ask your Dr. he/she can determine by your labs

Gotta ask yourself why you need so many protein shakes etc.
Liquids don't need to have protein . .

Hang in there - lots of information to digest...

nature-smiley-008.gif I am no dr...not even a medical person, however I do have an opinion....lol! I was surprised to learn from someone at a health food store that I needed 1g of protein per 1lb of body weight. I was also surprised to read this on another website (non-wls related)....for me THAT'S a LOT of protein! I can't possibly eat that much protein in a day...I am trying to lose the weight I have regained and I try and get in around 120-150g a day....that's only about half of the recommended amount! Not saying you should get this much...I think Bamagal has posted about the recommended daily intake amount before...If I am not mistaken she posted something similar to what the health food store told me.

I'd say start keeping a daily intake journal (I use fitday.com) and keep up with it for a week or so and see how you are doing with your weight loss...everyone's body is different and your body's needs are probably different from mine...

So, my advice is keep a food journal and then listen to what your body is telling you.

Oh, and to answer your question MelissaF, no it really doesn't matter about the "counts" on the 5dpt...remember this is just a time of healing and rest for our "tool"...."as much as you want" is as much as you need to be satisfied...days 3-5 will be an eye opener for you...you will probably be able to consume far less than you anticipate. About 3oz at one meal is not uncommon. After days 3-5 you will need to watch your intake to be sure you are consuming enough...again I advise fitday.com...it tracks fat, calories, carbs, and protein...I mainly use it to track my carb and protein intake...hope this helps! :)

Blessings!
