I am trying to find out more about the topic of the ulsers. Where can I fine that tread? Or can anyone tell me if they have taken Prilosec or Ranitidine the whole time after surgery. My Dr. told me to take it just after surgery so I quit taking it after 2 months. Should I start taking it again? I am feeling so good now but I don't want in 3 or 4 years to have ulsers if I can avoid them.

Thanks again!

Each doc is different Betsy, mine had me on nothing till I developed an ulcer and had me in Prilosec bu tmy ins charged me WAY too much to afford it so I'm on the OTC Zantac 150 mg 2X a day. Works well for me. I don't know how common they are for us after wls but it'd be interesting to know the statistics.....

I've been on Ranitidine the whole time. Have the OK to add Prilosec OTC if my reflux would come back. My pharmacist said that he sees a lot of WLS people who doc doesn't have them on anything and they end up w/ ulcers. He specifically said, "Take your Ranitidine!"

Hey,

I am going to start taking the Prilosec again. I also go back to my Dr. on the 21st so I will talk to him about the ulcers and what some people are experiencing in 3 to 4 years. How frustrating to come so far and then have ulcers. I have to say that you are some kind of strong to take that Ranitidine if it is the liquid. That stuff is bad tasting. (so bad) Thank you guys for your information and help.

I take it in pill form. I don't do well w/ liquid meds/vitamins. I gag way too easily for them!

My surgeon had me take 20 mgs (10 at a time two times a day) for a couple of weeks and that seemed to do the trick. I cut way back on caffeine too.

good luck, and I really urge you to see your doc if you think that it's getting to be serious. Ulcers are nothing to mess with. They can really ruin your life fast!

keep us posted, ok?

Best to follow your Doctor's orders.

I took Prilocec fro two months *shrug* "Only your Dr. knows for sure."
Stay in close touch with your surgeon - follow every detail.

Blessings!
