Hi neighbors! My name is Terri Frost and I am a single mom of one in Oregon. I am so excited to be here thanks to meeting Kaye and Lynn at the bash. (Poor Lynn, I was so excited about everything, I gabbed her head off after the banquet! laughing-smiley-011.gif I am gonna cut and paste my most of my blog from my myspace, since it tells my story... so here goes....

I am one of the typical stories that you have heard, tried every diet or weight loss fad known to man and I yo-yo'd my way up the scale over a period of over 25 years. Ironically, when I was in high school, I thought I was huge, but actually was normal size for my height (6'). Regardless of that, I started the dieting that was my demise all the way back in Junior High school. Over the years, I managed to diet my way to nearly 400 lbs and a BMI of over 53! My self esteem and health both suffered. I read an article when the Lap-band was first FDA approved in 2001 and I spent years researching having the surgery both in the states and in Mexico. I was sure it was exactly what I needed to get help to control my eating. Eventually, I was lucky enough to find Beliteweight online and I was impressed immediately with the support from them. And, by a very strange coincedence, their home office is located in Irvine, right by where I grew up. I can honestly say, I would not have my band if it weren't for them. I proceeded to schedule my surgery for a hospital in Mexico. I was one of those people who told virtually everyone about what I was going to do and I got a lot of raised eyebrows, "You are going to Mexico for surgery?" "Yep!" I said, with complete confidence and boy was I right, my experience could not have been better. Do NOT believe all the horror stories you hear about Mexico, they could not have been more untrue with the hospital and people I dealt with. Not only was my surgeon more experienced than the ones in the U.S., my surgery cost $9000 LESS THAN it would have for me to have it here at the time. I love sharing my story with folks, those who were skeptical quickly changed their tune. I am very lucky that my friends and family have been incredibly supportive of my journey and they all are advocates now too. (I have created groupies! LOL) So, in March of 2006, I flew down and had my surgery. I am excited to be experiencing this Lap-band journey and grateful for all the information shared online that helped me get here. I started at 391.5, lost 12 lbs pre-op, and am currently down to 287. My BMI has dropped over 13 points! My fibromyalgia has gone into remission, my chronic back pain is gone and I feel better than I have in years! I am frequently mistaken for 10 years younger than I am (I am 43)! I still have a ways to go, but I feel like I have a fresh start in life and more hope for the future than ever. This is the first time I have ever been able to take weight off and KEEP it off. It is very exciting!

Very Sincerely,
Terri

Congratulations on your great results and welcome to the neighborhood. I really enjoyed reading your story. I have to say, I was really tempted to go the same route you did when I was first checking it out. My insurance wouldn't approve lapband, and I was going to go to Mexico to do it. I'm so glad to know that all the rumors and myths are not always true, not always right. What an inspiration.

Again, Welcome!

Welcome, Terri. I'm glad you've joined us.
Can I ask a personal question? How do you handle fills with your surgeon in Mexico? Just wondering.

I have had most of my fills done back in Mexico, but made a trip out of it cause my mom is in Southern Calif and so is the company I work for. I do, however, have a great local fill doctor, Dr Kelly Fitzpatrick, (who was at the bash, BTW) and I have an extensive list of places all over the country to get fills if banded in Mexico. If I need a flouro and don't want to go to TJ, I can go to Dr. Neal in Olympia (who was at the bash too, and if I had been banded in the US, I would have gone to him). We are a bit spoiled here in the Pacific Northwest cause the lap band trials were done here, so we have more resources. But more and more Mexico friendly fill docs are popping up all over the country.

I am alittle late to this thread. Hi action-smiley-065.gif and welcome to all the Bashers. Glad to have y'all here and y'all have to come to the right place!

Terri...welcome! I thought that I had already responded here...hmm...wonder what happened!?

You are STUNNING! Has anyone ever told you that you could be part of the Judd family??? Sort of a cross between Wynonna and Ashley! Beautiful!

I have to say, I'm extremely jealous that you're brand new here and have met our founder, Kaye!

Enjoy the site and I'm glad to see that you are a Citizen...committed to staying here in the 'hood. You've bought property at LAWLS!

For some reason, I missed an entire GROUP of posts over the past week...so I am late as well. Welcome to all the Seattle Bashers! I look forward to meeting all of you in the hood!

Thanks for the kind compliments! (she says, blushing) I have been told I could be related to Wynonna many times, but never Ashley Judd. Whenever I fill out one of those myspace surveys that asks "Which celebrity do you look most like?" I always put Wynonna.

Hi Terri!

I never did find out where you get your fills? I know that BeJean asked and I am sure that is a question that a lot of people contemplating Lap Band ask, especially if they want to go to Mexico...

You guys, she's as lovely in the inside as she is on the outside!!!! And so tall!!!!

Hi Terri - I can see the resemblance to Wynonna in your pic, but didn't see it when we met in real life. Interesting. You have such an energizing personality with a great willingness to help and share. It was truly a pleasure to meet you and I'm glad you are here.

Thanks Kaye, Although I haven't posted a lot yet, I will be showing more involvement in the neighborhood. I have have been busier than heck and need to balance my work time, mom time and me time.

Hugs to all,
Terri
