Well ladies and gents, day one came and went for me. Not too bad. I felt like it was pretty much what I usually eat, only pureed. I ate when I got hungry, and I got hungry a little more often than I normally do, but all in all, the protein drinks did a good job of keeping me satisfied for 4 or 5 hours at a time. The soups that I had were really yummy, and I didn't feel deprived flavor or calorie wise at all.
When I entered my totals on fit day I had: 637 cals/17 grams fat/37 grams carbs/ 98 grams protein.
It was the hardest thing for me to drink all the water. I wasn't thirsty since I was drinking all day. The second hardest thing was my exercise. I got weak and shaky and my heart pounded during my walk. I think my blood sugar and my anemia (low blood oxygen) were the problem. I took a protein bar with me, but vowed I would not eat it unless an ambulance had to be called. Well, I didn't eat it. I sat down for a while. I sipped some water, and then walked even more slowly. It was probably the worst walk I've had in awhile. Since right after surgery, now that I think about it!
I weighed this morning, even though I said I'd only weigh once a week. I was down 3 pounds! But I'm not celebrating or counting that yet. Not until Saturday, my next "real" weigh in.
So...here comes Day 2. Everyone says this one is a pisser. Well, I ain't scared! C'mon Day 2 I'll take ya on!!!
But, where is my posse? I did this with others, and I can't seem to find them. Stacy, did you decide to wait and start today instead??? Who else said they were starting yesterday?
For all of you guys starting today, good job! See ya at the finish line. Let's go!

Sandi! Down 3 lbs!!!!!!! wow! And not hungry. That's my kinda livin'!
Sorry the walk was tough but I have days like that, too. Without even
intending to, I was on the 1st day of a 5DPT. My weight always
drops when I do even a day or two but I want to follow through with the rest.
It's a real freedom not worrying about what not to eat! If you know what I mean!
So here's to great food, great exercise and and whole bunch of energy!
I want to know how everyone else is doing! SUPER!

Okay, I am IN! Had y oncologist review the 5dpt..and she said it is a go as long as I make sure to get in 3 protein shakes a day, and at least one serving of one of the soups...
Needless to say, I am excited! Today is day one for me...and I feel good!
Sandi..wow! Those 3 lbs finally gave! Cant wait for your 'official' weigh in!
MF...I am happy you are doing it too!
Okay guys...who else is doing the 5dpt now??!!!??

Do you think I am too soon post-WLS to do this? I think Lucille allows me to eat too much of some foods. I even thought this while in the hospital. I have realized this about some foods, like soups & cottage cheese, and make sure to only eat a certain measured amount, but I could easily eat a full cup of most foods, except dense meats. I'm wondering if doing 5dpt would aid me in feeling the fullness I should feel. I just don't know if it is OK to do it so soon after my surgery, while I'm in the losing phase.
Opinions welcome.

Jean, at 4 months out, you're LIVING the 5dpt! Unless you're eating all day on crackers and cookies, you're probably living like it's day 5 or day 6 would be my guess.
Are you using fitday or calking or some thing to record what you're eating daily? Are you getting 45 minutes of exercise 5-6 days a week? If you're seriously considering making some adjustments to your current plan, I'm very willing to take a close look at what you're already doing. Do you want to do some pm work together? I'm willing and available. And I send great cyber hugs... I'm no expert, but I did hit goal after surgery and my big "regain" is really just a minor adjustment, so... I think I've been pretty successful. So let me know, I'd be happy to help you analyze what's going on for you.
In the meantime, I'm sending you cyber love. It's not a matter of I think you SHOULD NOT do the 5dpt. It's a matter of I think you're probably already doing something very very similar.

Marianna and Mickee! so glad to know I'm NOT alone out there! Thank you for being with me on this. Just finished my first shake an hour ago. Had a decaf just now with the family. I made waffles for them this morning so I knew I would not be tempted to cheat. I find that when I'm trying to be extra good, it helps me to make things for everyone else that I would never eat in a million years. So it's waffles for bfast and I'll probably make pasta or rice for supper. These are things I always dump or get sick on, so I KNOW I won't want to join him/them on this. No slider foods will be visible or available for the week.
What soups are you two doing for dinner tonight? Have you had your vitamins yet? What's our plan for exercise today? I think I'm going to dance instead of walk...closer to the sofa. Yesterday kind of freaked me out a little...
So, don't be a stranger today ok? If this really IS as bad as everyone warns, I'm going to be on here a lot today.

Jean, at 4 months out, you're LIVING the 5dpt! Unless you're eating all day on crackers and cookies, NOT! None of that for me! you're probably living like it's day 5 or day 6 would be my guess. Are you using fitday yes, maam! or calking or some thing to record what you're eating daily? Are you getting 45 minutes of exercise 5-6 days a week? This is a struggle for me, but I keep plugging along. I think it will be easier once the weather warms up and I can get outside to walk & swim. If you're seriously considering making some adjustments to your current plan, I'm very willing to take a close look at what you're already doing. Do you want to do some pm work together? Don't think that will be necessary at this point, but I will keep it in mind if I need the help. I'm willing and available. And I send great cyber hugs... I'm no expert, but I did hit goal after surgery and my big "regain" is really just a minor adjustment, so... I think I've been pretty successful. So let me know, I'd be happy to help you analyze what's going on for you. Not really planning to make any adjustments, just wondered if Lucille should feel tighter with things like soups and cottage cheese. Maybe that's what my real question is. I question whether I should even be able to eat a cup & a half of anything at this point. I measure for no more than 1 c., so am not consuming 1 1/2 c. Meats leave me almost too full with 2-3 oz. The loss is going well, so maybe I'm worrying about this amount stuff too much. Do you think so?
In the meantime, I'm sending you cyber love. It's not a matter of I think you SHOULD NOT do the 5dpt. It's a matter of I think you're probably already doing something very very similar.
Thanks for the cyber love & the advice. I think I just worry too much. LOL

Hmmm, u can eat a cup of food at one time? I had my RnY 10 years ago, I was not eating a cup at one time, but I know that the RnY is done differently by different doctors.. but you know what YOU ARE DOING GREAT, YOU'RE DOWN 60 POUNDS IN 4 MONTHS, WOW, you don't need to get in touch with your pouch U R in touch with your pouch...and eat the dense meat first at all meals, that way u feel full...protein first and dense protein, I ate a lot of chicken breast, even duh I did not like it, I also need turkey jerky, that is what i had in my car for when I got weak........ hang out with Sandi, best wishes
Sandi
Feb 18 2008, 10:13 AM
Ok Jean, yeah, cottage cheese and soup will just slide through. Those will NEVER feel tight. That crazy cottage cheese test that was going around a year ago or so is just whacked! Try a chicken breast if you want a real test of your pouch. Get your exercise up if you can. I didn't start losing consistently until I broke the 45 minute a day mark.
Once you hit goal, you can back down on exercise to 30 minutes a day or 45-60 every other day, but for losing weight I'm a firm believer--it's not how little you eat, it's how much you burn in the furnace of exercise. We make such a big deal out of what we eat, but it's not the food. It's the exercise. So that's my biggest recommendation for anyone serious about losing steadily over the long haul and keeping it off.
If you're not physically able to exercise, do what you can. Walk everywhere, or crawl if you have to. Dance instead of walk, get as active as you can be. It makes a huge difference in your ability to lose weight. Seriously.

Mid-way through Day1 of 5DPT. I'm doing better than I thought I might. I am at work and the hardest period has passed - LUNCH - all of the fast food aroma was abound, but I made my shake and sat down and listened to a beautiful song and meditated. I am so happy to have found this place and you people. I have hope again. I was very successful at losing 143 pounds, going from size 26 to size 8 withing 12 months. At year 4 I became complacent and started to pick up weight slowly. Now I want to regain control and knock off 20 pounds for good measure. I know I can do it because you all are proving it to me. I thought I had wreched my pouch because I could eat more than usual. I guess I will find out in a few days. Thanks for everyone's support. You all ROCK!

Hi Sandi,
It sounds like you're doing well. I bet that walk was scary! I'm sorry!! When are you having your iron transfusion? I bet you'll feel a whole lot better after that kicks in!
Jean - I agree, I don't think you need the 5dpt at this point. You're doing GREAT!! It seems you are making all the right food choices. It sounds to me at this point Lucille is exactly where she should be.
Serenity - Welcome! I'm glad you made it through lunch. What a nice idea to listen to music and meditate. You'll make it through the week just fine! I LOVE your name too!
Good luck everyone. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
All the support here ROCKS!!!!

O.K, here's my day so far:
10:00 cup of tea w/1% milk--so sad to give up my 1t of honey, but I got over it!
10:30, protein drink, 24 gr. whey protein, 4 oz. 1% milk, 4 oz water.
16 oz bottle water
1:00 1 tall iced coffee mixed w/protein - 18 gr. protein
2:00 1 c. pumpkin sausage soup. I ate it too fast because I was worried about the 15 min rule.. LOL, I finished it in 6 minutes and feel full.
Went out & bought ingredients for talapia recipe, salisbury steak & tuna patties. I'm thinking of making the black bean soup for tomorrow--it might be a waste but then again, look at all the money I wasted on those carbs!
2:40, am having 16 oz water & taking a nap---see ya all later.

Hi all! Sorry I have been MIA today...my hard drive finally got returned from H.P., so I was reinstalling it. Might get a picture on here yet!
My day so far has been pretty good. I had a strawberry banana protein shake <GNC> for breakfast at 10, had a cup of turnip sausage soup at 1:30, and c-light...ALOT of c-light! I have gone through 60 oz so far today...I have been drinking like crazy. I have pudding in the fridge...jello...and one cup servings of turnip sausage soup ready if needed.
I have the black bean soup currently bubbling on the stove, and have already cleaned the whole house...up and downstairs...and have alot of energy today! I took all my vitamins so far for the day too...
I am going to go see now if I can figure out how to load pictures on here!!!
Good luck to all...keep posting!!!!

Hi Everyone...
It's my Day 1 too...so far so good..got a little headache...can handle that! bad carbs!
I thought I would share my protein drink with everyone
I use 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein (1 serving), 2 tsp of sugar free mocha cappuccino instant mix, 1 tsp instant coffee
I then add ice and water and enjoy a tasty iced beverage.
No hunger pains yet...
Sandi

Ok, I'm back. I've had 2 protein shakes and a cup of the bean and turkey soup. I've had all of my vitamins, all of my water and walked for a half hour. No hunger pains yet, but evening is always my low time. I'm making some turkey veg soup right now for supper tonight and it smells good. Real good.
Sound off posse! How's it going for you?

I am doing okay...I had alot of energy this morning and did a bit too much I think. I did get in 90 minutes of the treadclimber total today...cleaned the whole house up and downstairs...all the offices...and the teenagers rooms <ugh!!!>. I have had 86 oz of c-light, tea, and water today. For dinner I had a half cup of turnip sausage soup. For some reason, it seemed really 'oniony' to me this time...
I have gotten in 72g of protein so far today though!
How is everyone else doing?

Hi Sandi,
I planned on starting today but things didn't go as planned. I was called in to work 11-7 last night and noshed all night long to stay awake. I ate 2 protien bars, a pkg of cheese crackers, a pkg of peanut M & M's and 2 diet pepsi's. What a mess.
Soooo. back to the drawing board. I am starting tomorrow, so I will be a day behind the rest of you but I'll be happy to bring up the rear. speaking of...
I better get off mine and get on the treadmill. Your support during my last 5DPT was unbelievable.

HA! I love your new photo, and your stats look great. It was a good day for me. Tomorrow is egg and tuna day, eh? What are you looking forward to you all?
Here are my totals, but I'm not done. I plan on rewarding myself with a little spoon of sf pudding! I didn't really NEED the last protein shake, I probably shouldn't have had it, but it just seemed like the thing to do... I took it pretty easy with the exercise. I danced all over the living room with the cats, and ran through the house like a mad woman. Then I went for a 30 minute walk around the town in a new coat I bought. I felt quite jaunty and I loved how flat my tummy felt. I had turkey and turnip soup with some beans in it for lunch and I'm kind of bloaty now. I didn't like how it felt for the first hour or so afterward.
Well, I'm sorry to go on and on with this. I hope you all had a good day. I do want to know what you're looking forward to eating tomorrow...
Marianna, thank you for the update and Lola, we'll see you with this thing tomorrow, ok? hugs.

Ugh...turnips huh? Guess I will have to just omit pumpkin and/or turnips all together and just have sausage soup, or switch to one of the others...
I will make them all after my 5dpt is over, and see what I like best for the next time I do this test..lol
And ty for all the compliments on my picture. I need to figure out how to add my old shots to the profile itself...for now, I just put them on the album page.

Yeah!

Day 2 is just about over and I am feeling so proud of myself. I really do have determination. I was stuck in a vicious cycle and thought I was doomed. Day 2 has given me more hope! I'm ready for Day 3. I'm preparing my boiled eggs as I type. I also received my 2 cases of WorldWide Pure Protein shakes (35 grams of Protein, 4 grams of carbs). I loved these when I first had surgery and I'm going to use them again. I've already had one for dinner. I want to give myself every opportunity to be successful once again. I remember how impossible it was for me to lose 143 without surgery, so dropping 25 with this tool should be a cinch!
Huggs to everyone
Below are two pictures that I keep in my drawer at work (in place of snacks) so I will NEVER forget where I came from!
Here is where I want to get to again (less 25 pounds)
