Im new to this board, so please excuse this if the questions are lame!
Is there any one protiein powder that is better used in this plan than another? And is there a suggested shopping list available for the beginner ?
Jules
Hi Cathy!

Don't worry, there are NO dumb questions! That's how you educate yourself.

I think any protein powder is ok. I've seen many ones listed here for what people use.

Do you mean for the beginner....5dpt? Or WLS?

Welcome to you!! sign0016.gif

Hi!

Welcome! sign0016.gif
Like Jules said - there are no dumb questions.

We get ours at Costco or Wal-Mart.
When you go shopping, look for Low Sugar and high protein.

Some one will post with exact product names.

Happy Monday!

Hi Cathy,
I like the CytoSport Muscle Milk in any flavor. I stick to chocolate
and vanilla. This kind is lactose free which is a plus because
many of us become lactose intolerant post-WLS. You can just
mix it with water (and ice) rather than milk for shakes. It's also
very fine milled, meaning it mixes well and is not as gritty as
some of the cheaper supplements.
I buy mine from www.cheapvitamins.com for around $25 shipped.
At GNC it costs from $59-$69 for the same brand name, same
amount; a bit under three lbs.And that's if you buy in person from a GNC
store. Several folks in the Neighborhood prefer this brand.Hope this helps!

Hi again Cathy!

Just FYI, I use Desiner Whey protein powder, chocolate. I prefer the "chocolate milk" like protein shake! Plus I always add coffee, because I LOVE coffee!!! :)

Read all the information here about the 5dpt. Decide what you want to make, if you want to make any of the soups, and make them ahead of time. Get your protein powder and whatever else you need to make your drinks. For days 3,4,& 5 I had hard boiled eggs ready, eggs for scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, salsa, chicken breasts to bake, ground hamburger already cooked and waiting and a steak for Friday night's dinner. That way I had a choice each day for what I could eat. The pumpkin/sausage soup is absolutely fantastic and really easy to make. It sounded awful to me, I'm not a huge pumpkin fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found that the salsa really helped "spice" things up tastewise, I used it alot that week.

And there are always people here doing the 5dpt, so join them. The support helps a LOT, just knowing how everyone else is doing and keeping yourself accountable.

It sounds like you're doing good with your weight loss. The 5dpt really gave me an "awareness" of my pouch. I think you'll find it helpful. And like everyone here says, it is ONLY 5 days and we can do anything for 5 days!!! No worries!! You'll do great!

Glad you're here!
Emarie

Welcome, Cathy. I just finished my first 5-day pouch test. I am almost 8 years out and I'll tell you, if there had been so many GREAT protein powders then, I'm not sure I would have ever wanted to go back to solid food.

I've been using Matrix 5.0. It's a little pricey - 5 pounds for $38 - but it lasts a long time, mixes well and tastes incredible.

Good luck!

oooo Get peanut butter for making protein balls!
Sandi
I'm in the market for unsweetened protein powder with at least 23 grams protein per scoop. Any recommendations?
amelia1968
sign0016.gif Cathy! I personally love the Designer Whey brand of protein (currently have on-hand the unflavored "Natural" 1{I think this has 19g protein per scoop} as well as their ProteinPak 2 Go in Orange/Mango flavor...it's awesome and mixes easily with a bottle of water with 60 cal and 10g protein per pkg...YUMMERS!).

I also like a brand called Jay Robb's b/c it uses "all natural" ingredients including "Stevia" for sweetening instead of aspartame or sucralose.... I currently have the Strawberry in it...the cheapest I have found this one is @ The Vitamin Shoppe for about $30 for a small tub (25 servings maybe; 1.5 lbs)...it's really good mixed with yogurt and fresh strawberries...NO artificial anything in it...HUGE plus for me! (about 25g protein per scoop)

I also like the taste of the Body Fortress brand from Wally World...I have both the vanilla and the chocolate...it is fairly inexpensive about $14-$15 per 3lb tub...26g of protein per scoop...

Sandi...I like the Designer Whey but I think the protein content is 19g per scoop...I checked and it is only 19g....

Blessings!
