Is anyone a Weight Watchers member?

If you don't feel comfortable "admitting" it in public, please PM me.

Thanks.

I am not a member but it was the best program that I was ever involved with. My problem wasn't with the program, it was with their attitude that it is okay to mess up over and over and over. I also wasn't good at maintenance.

For WLS patients, IMO the best WW program is the CORE program but without so much attention to grains. The flex program allows too many slider foods.

Hi Gretchen -

I am a WW member. I attend AtWork meetings (I'm the coordinator). I joined because I am trying to lose my last 25 pounds, but have not been following it the last 2 times around =( I am on day 1 of the 5 day pouch test to get me back on track - and I'm keeping track of my points too. I do the flex program because I can't stand fat-free dairy products - but I do try to limit the carbs.

Years ago, I got to my lowest weight ever on WW; lectured for them
for quite awhile, etc. Wonderful program for the civilian. I regained my
weight and then some due to lack of vigilance and meds I had to take.

I feel that Weight Watchers, NutraSystem and the like allow
  • way too many carbs for us post-WLS folks
  • Slider foods are permitted on these programs ...never good for post-WLS folks
  • Portion sizes are too big even in NutraSystem
I think these programs are fine for others but our needs, post-op are
TOTALLY different due to malabsorption, lactose intolerance, hypoglycemia
and many other issues. I have NEVER found any program that comes CLOSE to
the one that Kaye has put together for us here in the HOOD.
Beginning with the 5 DPT
and following up with the LAWLS rules, you are on-course for sure.
  • Protein First
  • No slider foods
  • Lots of Water
  • Move more today than you did yesterday
If you're going to Weight Watcher's for the support and enthusiasm, fine...
But I think the food plan is all wrong for us.
BeJean
I'm in agreement w/ what Mickeefynn said. Meetings for encouragement=good. The diet=wrong for WLS post-ops.

I WAS ON WW FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH. I STOPPED IT BECAUSE I ONLY WENT IN 1X A WEEK TO GET WEIGHT.I DID LOSE 8 LBS.BUT I CANT SEE PAYING $40.00 A MONTH JUST TO GET WEIGHT.I KNOW WHAT MY POINTS ARE NOW SO IM GOING TO TRY IT ON MY OWN.DEBBIE

I did it for about a month and found it just wasn't right because, like everyone has said, it's just not quite right for the WLS patient. We need so much protein that you end up using all your points before you reach the end of the day, they encourage so many veggies (which definitely isn't a bad thing) but we're supposed to do protein first.

I opted to leave and come here because I think it was the support I was looking for and while WW members can sympathize with the weight loss portion, we need additional support because of the challenges we face as WLS patients.

Just my opinion wub.gif

Hi there
Weight Watchers is a great tool for weight loss success. I've been doing it for three months now and have lost 25 lbs (I did it last year for three months and lost 12 lbs). It's another tool. Just like your little pouch. Just like the "pouch", in order for it to work, you have to use it in the way it was intended. The meetings are the inspirational jump off point, as are the weigh-in's and the quik-trak (where you write everything down you've eaten). Look at it as a tool. action-smiley-065.gif

I did WW to lose my 10% excess body weight so BC would approve me for wls. When I mentioned this on the boards once on their website ( I did the WW online) they all got all huffy and I just didn't go back onto the boards. I still did my program to lose the weight, but I saw right off that they didn't have an open mind to wls. But, the thing is, I find what way is right for ME. I believe we all find our own way and who am I to say YOUR way isn't right for YOU? I can't say that. I only know what is right for ME.

I don't think their diet is good for us because they go by points, not sugars and carbs.
