hey guys,

I'm 2 years and 7 months post op, I've lost 225 pounds and I'm viewed by most as being healthy and in shape. I work out daily, but I've found my appetite getting bigger and bigger. I read about the 5 day pouch diet, but I'm scared of no carb diets and fruit, oatmeal, and other high carb foods are a big part of my diet.

I feel like my reason for dieting is psychological and I have done a good job so far, but I am finding myself wanting sugar and feeling hungry frequently. Are all of you on the atkins? If I did the 5 day pouch diet would I feel significantly less hungry? Would My body start craving carbs hard after the 5 days without any carbs?
Kim
Welcome to the group!

If you are eating more carbs than you are protein, chances are that is where the huge appetite is coming from. Also, I find that when I'm doing lots of weight lifting and such, I am hungrier. What cured this was drinking a protein shake (Atkin's Advantage RTD) within a half hour of my work out. Give it a go!

When I did this the first time....day 2 sucked! However, this entire 5 days cured me of the carb cycle i was in and stopped my cravings. Christmas put me back into the cycle, starting 5dpt again tomorrow to get back out of it. I'm a crab addict....always gotta watch 'em.

Hello and Welcome! No, everyone here isn't on Atkins, and the 5dpt is not about no carbs. There are vegetables galore on the test, and the test itself is only 5 days out of a lifetime.

If you haven't read about it yet, I invite you to click on the link above in the left hand part of your screen and check it out. It might be just the thing you need to curb your appetite.

Best wishes and again, welcome!

also, it says that you should reduce caffeine? i take in a huuuuge amount of it, is there any particular reason why? if i take in say the equivalent of 6 cups of coffee per day will it prevent my pouch from going back to the way it was before?

Also I have been interested in bodybuilding. I have lifted weights all my life and I am pretty muscular right now, but I had way more before i had the surgery. is there a way to gain muscle mass while trying to lose weight?

Sandi
I think I'll let the body builders on here speak up about this question.

The caffeine part during the 5 dpt is that it's considered by many to be an appetite stimulant.
