I finally comitted to a gym!! I joined a gym yesterday and did my 1st circuit class tonight. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, altho i know I will be sore tomow. I really want this regain off and know I've got to get serious about an exercise program and eating better to do it. I wanted to try the spin class, but it was full. I started with the eliptical machine for a few minutes then a 30 min circuit, then finished with 10 mins on the treadmill. I am tototally proud of me!!
I was feeling discouraged

this past week bc I had done so well for the past few weeks after the 5dpt, I had continued on day 6 and lost 16#s, on average a half a # a day.

I know I really shouldnt weigh everyday. But for a while there(first time in along time) I was feeling like the scale was my friend again. then i got stuck and for days it didnt move. so I got frustrated and decided I would take a few days off.

I had a hamburger and a fried ckn sandwich, the nxt day, of course with fries. I promised myself that I would get bk on track after the weekend.

so Monday I started a modified 5dpt. I did liquids all day monday with only a handful of almonds. today I did a shake for brfast then roasted chkn leg quarter with green beans and a salad for lunch. I think I have had about 4 bottles of water so far. Not sure about dinner yet.. prob some baked fish. maybe shrimp in a stir fry of sorts. Thanks for all of your support.

It means so much to me. And thanks to all of you I have joined a gym for the 1st time in my life and the 1st time since my surgery in march of 03. woohoo!!

Dee, I know that you're feeling discouraged about some of your food choices lately, but I think it's so great that you joined a gym! That's a real "kick butt" attitude. You're not going to just give in and give up, you're going to FIGHT!
Another benefit of regular exercise: it really motivates you to eat better. You work so hard to get in shape, you just can't stand to feed yourself garbage.
Never forget that we're not perfect specimens. Life is messy and delicious.
Keep enjoying life, and don't be too hard on yourself. Go to the gym and really enjoy it. You deserved nothing but happiness.
Your story inspires me.

Kisha I think we are at about the same weight right now. Judgeing from the w.a.r. 227 - 7.8 #s (war it is for sure to get it off!) Good luck to you Kisha.. Lets get on track together and loose this extra weight!! I was about 235 when I 1st found this site, after the doing the 5dpt a few times I lost the 16#s.. Looking forward to getting bk under 200.. woohoo!!

Dee, that is great! I have not been to my gym in a while...however I have been exercising! When you work out extra hard, be sure to take in some good protein (a shake is great) within 30 minutes of finishing...I found that this kept me from going into "search for food" mode an hour later.

Getting ready to start day 3 of modified 5dpt.. prob gonna have some eggs. No class being held at the gym this evening, but Im a little sore this morning anyway. so I may just go walk on the treadmill or eliptical later on

, They offer circuit on tue and thurs evening and a spinner class right after it. other than that its pretty open. Guess im gonna need to use those free personal trainer classes and find out what in the world to new when im not in a class! I feel a little intimidated about the whole thing really. The girl last nite was super sweet about the newbies in the room. I sure was glad. cus I felt way lost. like I stuck out like a sore thumb. Again thanks for all of the support.

Dee--Congratulations on your can-do attitude. My goal is also to weigh 200 lbs (by Mar. 17) I also weigh everyday, and it does go a little up or down, but I don't let that get to me. I just "count it" on Sun. (that's the day I started my 1st 5 DPT) The scale didn't go down today, but I am also losing inches.

Keep up the forward progress. I'm also trying to change my attitude toward food and get away from the idea of cheating. If I eat two cookies now, I tell myself that it was ok, because it was just a choice and I can make a different, better choice next time. (To be honest with myself I also acknowledge that it wasn't the two cookies that put all the weight back on me--It was the whole box that I would eat at one time) Then I go back to my 5 DPT shakes and soups and move forward. Be kind to yourself. Everything you do now is part of the new life you're making for yourself with new and better choices.

Hi Dee
This is my first time visiting this site or any for that fact. So any input from anyone as to what to do or how to do things would be greatly appreciated. I had my surgery almost 7 years ago. Did lose 160 lbs but have put back about 50 and have been so discouraged with myself. Did the Back on Track series-or I should say I read all the info and just heard about this 5 day pouch test and very excited to try it and get back on the losing track. My one big challenge is finding a good protein powder, any suggestions-name brands?...has anyone used any of the protein drinks such as EAS? Keep up the good work and hope to be talking with you as well as others in the future. Deez

Hey Dee,
I have found the gym to be a great experience. I am 53 and have never been to a gym and it was very intimidating at first so I ask my friend who is a personal trainer to help me and what a difference that makes. Good luck with your training and I hope you love it. One tip - for me it is easy to go with someone (a buddy)but don't wait for them ,just go no matter what because people will stand you up sometimes and it is easy to blow it off. So just go for yourself!!!!

Hi Deez.
I encourage you to try the 5dpt. It is what got me back on track and gave me the motivation to go join a gym. and it helped me to loose the 16 #s. I do use the RTD shakes, like sf and eas, atkins. They are tolerable. They help me control my eating. Good luck with everything. Read as much as u can and post often! The hood is full of people who have been where you are. We all travel the same wls road.

I made it two days in row!!! My 2nd day at the gym. I did 20 mins on the treadmill and 10 min on elliptical

, then went and did the circuit room. I did free weights, and legs, arms. I feel so good about me!! My cousin joined the same gym, so thats exciting

. We plan on doing the circuit tomorow. It good to have a work out buddy. But we work such diff shifts we prob wont get to go a whole lot together. I will be faithful regardless. Her joining was just dumb luck!

You're doing great, Dee! Congratulations on this big step forward. Do take advantage of those free personal sessions. I noticed you're doing the curcuit training every day. Check with the personal trainer; however, I think most of them advise weights every other day and cardio on the others in order to give your muscles time to repair--especially since you're just starting. Your zeal is inpiring, just make sure you don't injure yourself by overdoing. I do weights Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and cardio Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Sunday is for rest. Again; congratulations!
