I started the 5DPT today.

This is what I ate today:
3cups coffee
2 Achieve One protein drinks
48oz Chrystal Lite Iced Tea
Protein pudding~created using the receipe on this site...finished the entire thing by the end of the evening...was that too much to eat in one day?
2 cups-Pumpkin soup~1cup at supper, 1cup at 9p.
1 container sugar-free jell-o
I am in such a snacky, gotta have something to eat mood after 8p.

Was what I ate for day 1 o.k.? Is there something I should eat that I didn't, should I have more protein? I can't get over how angry my tummy is after eating the pumpkin soup...very gurggly.

action-smiley-065.gif Hi! Welcome to the n'hood!

The 5dpt rules state that you are NOT to go hungry...so you can eat the "allowed" foods as often as you like as long as you are not eating more than the 1c limit at one time... You shouldn't worry about the amount of protein etc on the 5dpt (it's a good time to start the journaling, but don't focus so much on the amounts until day 6)...the real question is are you eating because you are "head hungry" or actually hungry??? The head hunger thing can be maddening....especially at night (for me, anyway)... (FYI this is when I focus on drinking a lot more water/herbal tea/crystal lite or whatever gets me thru til bedtime...I also schedule a "meal/snack" late night just so I can have something and won't feel like I've blown it...I usually have a protein bar or protein shake with yogurt with a little bit of high protein cereal sprinkled on top for the "crunch" factor...this is good. I fight my biggest food battles between 9p and 1am {yep, I'm a night owl, I've tried to change it but why fight my natural clock??!!! Been like this for almost 40yrs!lol!}...I also drink about 30+ oz of water/whatever during these hours...)

The main thing on the 5dpt is to cut the carbs and snacking between "meals"...but in order to get in all of our protein it is sometimes necessary to schedule 4-6 meals a day...a couple of the "meals" can be a snack type meal but it should consist of mainly protein(days 1-5 of 5dpt) with the addition of complex carbs or fiber, keeping in mind the 2 bites protein/1 bite carb rule (day 6). During 5dpt the key is PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN and water, water, water and be sure you are taking your vitamins... As long as you are concentrating on protein (looks like you are) and eating only what is allowed for that particular day there are no limits as to the total quantity eaten in a day...just remember that after days 1&2 NO Drinking 30 min before or after each meal...

cool0012.gif You are doing great! Only 1 more day of liquids then it's on to soft proteins...you will be pleasantly surprised and shocked at how little it takes to fill you on days 3-5....AMAZING!!! Hang in there! cool0012.gif

Blessings!!!!

Looks like you followed the rules to me. I have no clue how much protein pudding the recipe makes--2 Cups? That doesn't seem unreasonable to me for day 1 & 2.

When you look at the totals, it looks like "grazing", but remember Day 1 & 2 are about liquids and breaking the cycle of reaching for crackers, chips, cookie and candy. It's a wake up call to get off the carbs, so I think ya dun good for day 1.

When you get to day 3, that's when you really need to get focused about when you're eating and remember: NO liquids with that soft protein. You don't want to make anything you're eating into a slush that will go through your pouch rapidly.

That's a drag that the pumpkin soup didn't agree with you.

Sounds fine. I think we work on gradually and comfortably shaping
our eating habits during the 5DPT. Remember, the primary goal of the 5DPT
is not to lose weight but to allow our pouches to heal and maybe even
shrink a bit. Also..to free us from the carb monster! That is the big issue for me.
I was amazed at how quickly I became ok w/out the constant carb hunting
that resulted in a 20 lb weight gain. Relax and enjoy! You're doin' it! party0002.gif

Thank you all for all the information and support...I'm on to day 2 and already I'm not even very hungry, it's amazing that I am not even thinking about carbs! WOW! This is a wonderful feeling...we even have girlscout cookies and leftover chocolate cake...and ya know what.....it's not bothering me..I don't want it...I CAN do this...keep focused.

Blessings!

Do you have your gallbladder? I don't...lost it long before my WLS...and have not been able to eat sausage since it's removal. That soup would certainly make me gurgle... You might try making it with ground turkey and just add the spices that go into sausage.

Hang in there dearie!

No, had my gallbladder removed with surgery. I used turkey sausage in the soup. It could be the heavy cream, I never eat heavy cream and was surprised that it was in the receipe...seems like just added fat.
