Hi Neighbors! Click to view attachment
Marla is helping me come up with a list of Frequently Asked Questions. We'd like this to be for Newbie's and longtime Neighbors as well.
If you are new to the Forums, what would you like to have addressed to help make navigating the Neighborhood easier?
Old timer's (no offense), what questions do you think would be helpful or have been helpful to you?
If you have a particular question you'd like to have us address, please post the question here.

Let's see... some very popular ones are:
Can I use straws? why/why not
Can I chew gum? why/why not
can I have carbonated beverages? why/why not
How much protein do I need a day? why?
how much protein can you absorb at one time?
how do I mix up protein powder in hot liquids?
should I have milk with protein drinks? why/why not?
These are the famous ones I see over and again.

GREAT thread!!!
I talked to many of the *experts* on these questions in Seattle -- will add their input as this thread grows. Great idea my darling Ambassadors.

Here are a few that come to mind right away, things *I* asked when
new to the HOOD. I'll add more as they come to me.
Thanks for doing this! It might be a good idea to number them so
when the question arises, we can say, "Great question! Refer to #42
in the FAQ list..." ya think?
- Why aren't the soups in the 5DPT and protein drinks considered "slider foods?"
- How often should I be weighing myself?
- I'm lactose intolerant. How can I tolerate protein shakes?
- What kinds of vitamins are recommended for best absorption?
- I am anaemic and I take iron supplements but nothing seems to help.

Great suggesstions melsreturn and mickee. Lynn and I want the FAQ to be helpful and user friendly. mickee, I really like your suggestion about numbering the items on the list.
I was thinking about maybe adding some technical stuff to the FAQ. For example - what is a pm and how to send one.
Should the FAQ include any technical things? Let me know what y'all think.
I love being an ambassador. I get to spread the message and the love!

The tech stuff would be a big help. I know some of that is available in the help section but if it were
there in FAQ as well, that would be super.....
Thanks Marla!

The only ones I have right now is " Can I have day 1 & 2 foods <soups, puddings, jellos, and shakes> on days 3-5?" and "Does the water have to be plain water, or can I add c-light or something similiar to it for flavor?"

Maybe a separate FAQ for technical dummies like me? That way, people could get to the category they need right away...

I agree with Mickey--especially about how to pm a member--it's not obvious when you go to my controls page how to respond. When I was new, (end of Jan.) two members sent me messages in the first few days and it took me til yesterday--Thanks again Lynn--when Lynn explained it in a post to someone else that I new how. Something like that could go on the FAQ just because this is such a great neighborhood and so welcoming that you want to respond but don't know how. To me that isn't so much technical as practical.

Great idea everyone!!!
I need a tech FAQ forum definitely!! I still can't figure out how to add a picture to my signature!! I think those techy things need to be spelled out step by step, so some of us "dummies" can "get it"!!!! Marla.....HELP!!!!!
Lee - good idea to have the tech one separate.
Another question I'd add would be:
Why can't I drink with my meals? Why wait 30 minutes before and after?
You ambassadors ROCK!!!

I was thinking... in addition to the FAQ's (WLS & technical), if any Neighbor has a question with a technical issue or question just either post it or send me a message. Also, if anyone has issues with their posts or threads going through and posting more then once... let me know. I am on the lookout for that, but if I miss one let me know. Kaye has enough going on and receives enough messages. This is something I can do for her.
Here is what I am thinking of for the technical FAQ
what is a pm and how do I send one?
signature, what is it and how do I get a cool one?
adding pictures to posts and albums
Code? what is this talk about code?
What is a blog?
etc!
Lynn and I will be working on this little/ big project over the weekend. So just keep adding your ideas

Thank you!

My biggest question was always "How can I get enough protein from just eating food and not with shakes??? I still don't have the answer, so I still do 3 shakes a day. Oh, Hair loss was my biggest concern from a vanity perspective. So a Hair loss and how to minimize it would be great!

Lynn and Marla, You might want to link to this article from WebMD.
I posted the link in it's own thread but think it might be a good reference
for the FAQ page.

Lo all.. just found this great article at www.WebMD.com (always a really good resource)
and knew it would be of interest to those who have recently had WLS or those
who are seriously contemplating it. Lots of info here. Take a look.

The only thing I can add right now that would be helpful is a link to send people to when they ask the various questions about the 5DPT. We get so many questions about it that people who are new need to understand that most of the questions they have can be answered right there in that forum. If they have a question that hasn't been addressed, then the 5DPT forum is the place to ask it.

Something about spacing meds/vitamins/minerals would be good. Such as don't take iron w/ calcium, take it w/ vitamin C & food. Take calcium citrate, not carbonate & take w/ vitamin D. Don't take thyroid medication w/ iron. Wait 2 minutes between pills.

I have a question.......why does milk feel our pouch up why does it seem not to slide like liquids do? Or at least for me milk is the only thing that stays in the pouch if I am drinking......I really don't get it....

Another suggestion for a FAQ, along the lines of the milk question above, "What are slider foods?". It's on the board now and comes up pretty regularly.
