So here is the new Mr. Coffee hot beverage maker. The actual name of it is 'Cafe Motion' and it comes in a box in shades of brown. I saw it in the store and it was about $25.00. Being the gadget gal that I am, I couldn't resist. This morning I tried it out before heading out to Curves. The idea for me was that this could possibly combine protein powder in a 'coffee' with no lumps or bumps and lots of froth much like the $5.00 cups of designer coffees we buy each day at places like Starbucks. Well, let me just say that this little machine works like a dream. The whole cup is a lovely, smooth, frothy, and delicious treat in just a couple of minutes. You add your ingredients so you control what goes in. I added 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of fat free powdered non-dairy coffee creamer, 1 tablespoon of espresso powder and 1 scoop of Designer Whey Vanilla protein powder. Set it to 2 cups because I wanted it hotter and let 'er rip. Two minutes later and I had a great treat and got my morning protein and coffee fix at the same time! I found it at Wally World of course

Cool (or should I say, HOT) Cela!
I'm on the prowell! Do you remember the
old HOT-SHOT beverage makers? Not
nearly so fancy. Actually just shot out
boiling hot water in seconds. I used to
make bullion at work a lot with it. I'd
probably buy one again although they had
a rather short product life.
OH... espresso powder??? Where to find, please?

I prefer Target over Wally World. However, now I have a reason to go to Wally World today. I am on the huny. This is wicked cool and I must get my hands on one of these. Thanks, hun!

What a fun find! Me? I'd be lost without my electric kettle. Way faster than boiling on the stove top.

And it really combines the protein powder without the icky bumps & lumps? I would really love to get a hot protein drink, but haven't been able to get it right EVER...so this is very cool.
Thanks for trying it out - great to get a product endorsment from the master!

NOT A SINGLE LUMP, BUMP, OR NASTY ANYTHING! I was so pleased. Like you, I really wanted a hot protein drink and try as I might, I just couldn't get all the lumps out. I am so anal that one lump and down the drain it goes! I will try to post reviews whenever I try something new. I don't expect everyone to buy every single gadget (I am just kind of obcessive about kitchen electrics and power tools!
) but hopefully, I will happen upon something that one of you is looking for and if I have tried it, it might help you decide if you want it or not. Thank goodness hubby is very generous these days and says absolutely nothing! Probably because the grocery bill is sooooooo much smaller than before surgery!
So, when I got home from Curves, I couldn't resist firing it up again. This time I used the flavored Splenda (Mocha) and a tablespoon of Walden Farms fat and carb free chocolate dip. It tastes almost the same as a Starbucks Mocha cappo! Less than 150 calories, no fat, no carbs! Remember, 100 of those calories are in the protein powder!
mickee, there are two espresso powders I get. One is strictly for cooking and is truly a powder and I buy it online from the Atlantic Spice company. The other I get in the grocery store and it is granular, just like Taster's Choice. The brand name is Cafe Bustelo and it is in a bright yellow package. They make whole beans, ground, and the instant. Of course I have them all!
Here's a picture of the bottle followed by a website where you could get it if you can't find it locally.

Celadon, but for the fact there were none in stock, I'd have HAD
that Cafe' Motion yesterday. Nary a one at my Appalachian Wallyworld!
It was a sign... a great big STOP sign, I guess. bummer (I sure tried)

Yeah, I guess we are soul sisters in that regard. I find a lot of the eclectic mix of stuff that I treasure online. It is just too darned far to go to specialty boutiques for me and the regular stores just done stock stuff I like. Of course, Wally World and Target have to be thrown in the mix and Penny's is a must for me for drapes and bedding if I am not making it myself. Just call us the internet shopping divas!

OH! and, you would not believe the great stuff I find at tent sales at the base!

Now that is the coffee that I grew up on, I still use Bustelo!!!! I use the ground up beans in the can but I make it with two tablespoons to 4oz of water, but I'm a Italian & Puerto Rican, I had an I V of espresso on my arm when I was born!

Yes ma'am! I am not Italian or Puerto Rican, but I appreciate a good quality cup 'o Joe now don't I? Must be because I too grew up with the stuff oozing out of the pores!

my dear mother used to bring coffee and graham crackers up to my sister
and I when we were getting ready to go to bed as kids. Hence, I still drink coffee
this way... dawn till bedtime. If I'm restless a good cup'O'Joe will have me
mellowed out and snoring in no time! Not a word of a lie.
And I like a dark French Roast, skunky to the max stuff.... Go figure.

Yum yum yummy! celadon...

I just want you to know how much DH and I are loving the Cafe Motion!
I'm sitting here sipping an infusion of great protein disguised a one nasty-rich Starbuck's treat!
Can't be beat! Thanks again for the heads-up.
I also kind of wanted to bump this item to the top again so more folks would take head.

btw, DH loves it too. Since I've come to the Neighborhood, he's begun talking and acting
healthy all of a sudden. He swipes my protein balls for snacks, loves the 5DPT soups,
asks for after dinner coffee desserts and is even on the coddled egg band wagon.
He has reduced carbs greatly, cut out carbonated drinks and is starting to lose weight and
feel much better. This was all his doing. I'm so happy for him! Hey, there's plenty of the
good life to go around!

No Nancy.. it doesn't. But it does make THE most delicious, NON-TIME-CONSUMING
piping hot protein drinks in the wink of an eye. I absolutely adore mine. We have celadon
to thank for bringing it to our attention!

After searching every store within 50 miles of here, I finally had to order my Cafe Motion off of ebay. My local Walmart had one on display but was missing parts. I can hardly wait for it to arrive as I would love to have a hot protein drink.

I am planning regular product reviews. With the traffic we got from this one, I think it is a nice thing to let people know what is out there and available. If you have a product the rest of us haven't heard of, let me know and if it is in my budget, I will get it and try it and post a review. Or, being the gadget gal that I am, I may already have it!
mickee, my whole purpose for being so obcessive about what I write about here in the Community Kitchen is to teach people that every single member of their family can benefit HUGELY by our new-found dedication to healthy eating and that the food we make CAN be both delicious and easy. In the case of your husband, I think we got the point across! How wonderful that he shares your food, likes it, and is getting healthier himself! That is my mission!

I think it's pretty wonderful, celadon.. You do a beautiful job in the way of encouraging all of us to step out and TRY!
A new gadget every now and then is a nice little addition to the mix... Speaking of mix... I haven't used my Kitchenaid
mixer this much in years! Protein Balls.... Laughing Cow concoctions... you name it. All this stuff helps!
Just got back from Wally World (went planter shopping)
Saw the cool drink maker :-)
Every inch of our weensie countertop is taken, otherwise I would be tempted.
But it gave me a good idea for our Magic Bullet!
Thanks for the recipe - YUM!

I finally got my Mr. Motion today. I used 1 scoop Elite Chocolate Mint, 1 c skim milk and some SF chocolate syrup. Put it on 2 cups. It got really lumpy! Then I tried it with 1/2 scoop protein, it didn't have as many but had a few lumps.
It didn't sound from your recipes that you made a paste from the protein powder, like I normally do. I'll try that tomorrow.
Later on I tied just milk and instant expresso. It was a litte too foamy for my taste, but other than that really good.
Any suggestions? Does anybody have any new recipes they really like?

In working out the 'lumps' with mickeefynn, we figured out that she was using too much powder and not enough liquid when she made her first few drinks. I haven't had any lumps at all so maybe a bit more liquid and a bit less powder?
I vary the add-ins depending on my mood. Sometimes I add sugar free chocolate syrup or one of the sugar free da vinci syrups. Sometimes I add something called 'marshmallow dip' from Walden Farms which is also sugar free. Yesterday I tried vanilla protein powder with just water, a tablespoon of non dairy creamer and blueberry sugar free fruit jam and it was lovely.

OK so anyone who wants to order one of these beauties just go to walmart.com and have it shipped to your nearest store and then No shipping charges!

Also always add the liquids first and then the powder last, otherwise it will be lumpy. I love this little machine. Thanks Cel!

Good advice Gina... Is this THE answer to the perfect maker
for hot protein drinks or what!??!
Even DH loves an after dinner coffee made in this gem.
I say
The Cafe' Motion is to Hot Drinks
what The Magic Bullet is to Cold drinks...
with both of them, I'm covered!
Thanks, celadon!!!
