They are absolutely divine! I am amazed how quickly they came in the mail. Both are Royal Worcester which is the most prestigous porcelain makers in England that make these. So, 7.00 each and 4.20 shipping for both. Not too bad cause to send for them new they are around 25.00 each. Here are the pictures:

I am not the best photographer when it comes to things that create glare so the pics don't do them justice at all. The colors are very bright and hand painted so they are lovely. I think the birds are actually prettier than the flowers. On the back of the bird one is a single brown wren and on the back of the flower one is a single small pink rose.
Thanks again Christine for the heads up. Can anybody guess what I am having for breakfast tomorrow???????

Sure they do, Sandi... you can adjust how long you leave them in the boiling water.
So I'd say maybe 10 mins for the kind of warm wonderful, fully cooked egg you want!

Well... of course they will (yolks will harden)if you leave it boiling long enough. But you can play with the
time and come up with what you'd like best.

Mine was 8 minutes in lightly bubbling water and the white was completely done, the yolk was soft and beautiful but done. Tomorrow I will pull it at 6 minutes for an almost runny yolk.

Julie, they truly won't be harmed by sitting in the water. They are very good quality porcelain. I did mine in gently bubbling water for 7 minutes this morning and the yolk was creamy but not loose so tomorrow I will try 6 minutes. The whites were completely done. When I make poached eggs, I put a teaspoon of white vinegar and a pinch of salt in the water to achieve what Paula did. I saw that episode too and I think she did use the vinegar. My grandma taught me that it makes the white hold its shape. Coddled eggs and poached eggs are pretty much the same. Just no water to deal with when you make coddled eggs and you eat them from a beautiful vessel.

OK ladies. All the egg coddler talk made me realize that they sounded like something I would like to try. So, on the way to taking SWMBO (She who must be obeyed) to see the movie Juno this evening, we swung into an antique store nearby. Lo and behold but what do I see, a pair of small egg coddlers and one large egg coddler, all in excellent shape and cheaper than the EBay prices when you factor in shipping. Now, I am the proud owner of three Royal Worcester egg coddlers which are currently being washed and await action tomorrow morning. Don't ask about patterns, all I can tell you is they have stuff on them. I really didn't pay much attention. Guy thing......
I'll keep you posted. You ladies are a wicked influence, absolutely wicked.

When I am at a restaurant, I ask that my omelette be cooked with one yolk, two whites and HARD. Nothing wiggly or jiggly on my plate, thank you. Now, all that being said, I'm wanting a coddler...just because they are so trendy here in the 'hood!

Kim, I think this thread is taking on a life of it's own. Perhaps, you could find one and then have breakfast with me and mickee and Doug too if he makes his as often as we will be making ours! The great thing is that you can cook them til they are shoe leather if you are so inclined. However you like your eggs, once you figure out how long it takes to get them to that point, the egg coddler will make them that way every single time you make them!

into the coddler, yes... no shell in the coddler. You can sprinkle in herbs, cheese...

Okay...guess who ran out to Home Goods to see if she could find an egg coddler at 7pm??? Yes, me. No coddlers, but I did find my silicon ice cube trays (with covers) for my "saucy cubes" that I'm going to make this weekend. A bargin at $6.99, I thought. I also picked up a gorgeous heart shaped casserole dish. At one point, I had some wee little cast iron pots too, but I put them back.
I also stopped at the grocery store...bought eggs. I'll take mine hard boiled the good old American way! Cracked, cold and salted!

These remind of something that my Aunt had in her kitchen when I was a kid. She had a small pan with an insert that held three little round "pots" that she would put an egg into. She would fill the larger pan with water, add the insert with the eggs and cook the eggs. I always thought this was called "poaching". Now, I'm thinking it was more coodling since the eggs were cooked in the smaller pot and did not touch the water. I read somewhere something about milk. Is that with poaching or coodling. Learning something new here. Hugs.

OK, jumping in here on the coddled eggs a little late, but I've been reading and re-reading this info and Googling coddled eggs till my eyes are crossed.
Are coddled eggs the same as soft-boiled eggs? I read something that stated they were still raw, but the photos I found didn't look raw, they looked like the whites were cooked and the yolks were soft. I love poached eggs but haven't made them in a long time because I often get the water too hot and end up with something that looks more like egg drop soup - with the whites floating all around in the water.
I guess I'm still a little confused about this. Can anyone enlighten me? At least as relates to coddled eggs? I'm not sure that there is any hope of enlightening me as relates to anything else.

Not raw at all...You can cook them runny or tough as an old shoe depending on how long you boil them.

I am going to pin this thread so that we can all find it. Are there any more of you that have purchased egg coddlers? If you have, how do you like them and what all do you put in them? Oh, and what size do you have?
Here is my latest ebay purchase of a giant egg coddler. I put the smallest one next to it so you could see just how large it is.

OOOH! I hadnt seen this thread...
My two egg coddlers arrived, and they are the smaller size. The only issue I had with them...<blushing here>, is that I put a little cooking spray in it, added the egg, pepper, and some shredded cheese...put it on and let it cook for 5 minutes in the boiling water...got ALL excited, took it out, let it sit for a minute, opened it up and scooped out a spoonful of icky almost raw egg <I like mine cooked pretty well>. I couldnt tell the egg was undercooked because I had put the shredded cheese on top. Next time, I will cook the egg first, THEN add the cheese!
Thanks for the great ideas....but Celadon...maybe we need some coddled egg recipes?
Hugs!
