Having grown up in Ca, there is nothing like See's Candy and I have been known to order for special occassions - my favorite being the "Irish Potato" at St. Patricks Day. Well, come low and behold their catalog came in the mail yesterday and I began to browse through it. While normally I would have grabbed my debit card and placed an order right there (for me and my family - yea right), I flipped through the pages and tossed it in the recycle bin.

That's right - nothing looked so absolutely fabulous that I was compelled to order (nor was it SCREAMING out my name) , so it's now trash! cool0012.gif
Let me tell ya - THAT in itself qualifies as a M I R A C L E! party0003.gif

Now...if they start selling sugar free Irish Potatoes, I'm in BIG trouble! LOL!

Way to do it, Toris! You have arrived!!!!!!!!!
You know... I try not to look at any catalogues I get anymore.
I throw them in before I can read the cover.
That sure helps budget and more! angel-smiley-002.gif

Woohoo Toris! Now I am sure that took some willpower!

Yanno, my biggest issue for a long time was the kids money raising drives selling candy bars and such in big boxes from home...

Now when my two are asked if they are going to contribute by selling, I have been told that the youngest told her teacher that she would...but if she brought candy home, mom would put it through the washing machine! <and yes...I did actually do this once to avoid the temptation...but hey I paid for them!>

Too funny!! Decades ago, my uncle had a girlfriend (a bulimic girlfriend which is why she did this - but that's a whole long drama) that used to take 2 bites of cheesecake and then ruin it by pouring pepper, coke, bleach - anything she could do to it so that she wouldn't be tempted to eat any more. She wouldn't just throw it in the trash because she knew she'd take it out. *shudder*

It's so wonderful for food not to have that control over me anymore. I just don't crave it like I did! cool0012.gif

I am so proud of you. No, it is not a miracle. It is you in control of your life/ destiny!

Toris...I've got a See's about 10 minutes from my front door. Yikes!

Funny that you should write about this though. I was full from dinner last night and sat down in my big chair to read the mail. Nordstrom's had sent out their ad and so did Trader Joe's. I started with TJ's...reading the descriptions of all of the new items was painful! After two pages, I said outloud, "Great. Now I'm hungry." So, I thought I'd be smart and try to distract myself with what Nordie's had to offer. Nope...those food descriptions were still buzzing in my brain! I made a cup of tea...brushed my teeth...then put myself to bed.

Talk about the power of the written word!

Well Toris you are a better woman then I, because I went shopping for some thing to wear for my job interview but before I did that I did stop at See's candy and I did buy some candy my favorite, Polar bear paws but I only got two pieces...
So where in CALI did you grow up? I have lived in at least 10 different states and 4 different countries, I love my Bay Area of San Francisco, and I do enjoy San Diego, Santa Barbara.

toris
I grew up in La Canada (1/2 way between Glendale & Pasadena), then moved to San Diego for 13 years before finally uprooting myself and moving to Nashville.

Good job, Tori! party0002.gif Way to go, girl!!!

Toris!
I grew up in Torrance/Redondo area but lived in Tujunga (aka the other side of the tracks from lovely La Canada) a couple of years when I was married to a US Forestry type in another lifetime.
I love San Diego although it's growing as fast as LA did when I was growing up there!
