Rice is basically empty calories. Because our pouch is SO small, we need to get the most nutrition we can in the smallest meals.
If you're trying to lose weight - then, yes, consider it a no-no. However, I don't believe anything is a no-no long term. Once you're MAINTAINING and not trying to lose weight, a VERY SMALL amount should be o.k. (i.e., 1-2 TBSP of rice eaten with a normal portion of protein). Any refined carbs though (white rice, white potato, etc.) should be eaten very sparingly - lest the carb monster ATTACK!

For me, personally, it's something I'm going to have to be mindful of for the rest of my life because I KNOW NOW that refined carbs send me into a very slippery slope.
You might be surprised by just eating the red curry chicken, you may not even miss the rice. Often, stuff like that is just a habit.
