Hi, I am just six weeks post op and am having a terrible terrible time with nausea. Is this a common thing. I can't seem to find any food that doesn't make me sick....I have tried almost everything. Even the water is making me gag. I can't get the protein shakes down and now that the water is even making me sick I am lost. I knew this would be a life style change....smaller portions and all but I thought that I would at least be able to eat. I think that I might just have to call the doctor on Monday if things don't get any better. Any suggestions.

The only time I had problems with nausea due to water, it ended up being my gallbladder. You may want to call your doctor and discuss it with him. It's been 14 years for me, so it's hard for me to remember. Sorry.

When in doubt, call them and talk it out. <my mantra after surgery>. I didn't have this issue...but in my opinion, should call and let your doctor know exactly what is going on.

Let us know how you are doing please!

Hi Malady,

First off let me say I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well!!! That sucks!

I had nausea HORRIBLY my first year after my surgery. It felt just like morning sickness, constantly. It lasted about 10 or so months then it just went away. It didn't start right away either, I was about 4 months out; then all of a sudden....I was nauseated constantly.

But I do think you should check with your doc. Better to be safe than sorry. Can I ask...is this new? Or have you been like this the whole 6 weeks? That must be frustrating when you can't even get water down. Maybe try resting your pouch, don't give it anything til tomorrow, see if it calms down. I'm no expert or a doctor of course, I just know when I am vomitting (and I don't know if you are or just feeling nauseated) if I let my pouch rest for 6 hours or so, it is better. Just a suggestion.

I hope you feel better. Hopefully this phase will pass.

Thanks for the input all, Jules as far as the nausea beginning I was sick on and off with the pureed foods but not a big deal. This started about a week ago and is getting worse. Last week I had to have a kidney stone removed.....never in my 52 years have I had problems with my kidneys and now I huge kidney stone. Seems like since then I just keep getting nauseaed. I don't even want to eat because everything makes me sick sometimes I throwup sometimes just sick. Even thinking about food and water make me want to hurl. Well I think the best thing is to call on monday and see what they say. Thanks again. This to will pass. action-smiley-065.gif

I don't think I'd even wait until Monday. The office surely has someone on call. If you're not getting down enough liquids you will dehydrate & that will be an even bigger problem. Call now. That's what the docs are there for.

Hi. I'm sorry that you're not feeling well!

Water can be very difficult to keep down on an upset stomach. Ginger can really, really help. Since your not very far out, I wouldn't try ginger-ale or diet ginger-ale, but you can buy ginger tablets to suck on. I use the Paul Newman's organic tablets, they do have a small amount of suger, so don't use a lot of them.

I would suggest you buy ginger tea. If you can't find that buy regular ginger from the grocery store and make a tea from it. You could also try peppermint oil.

Hope this helps!
