Teresa
Greetings All,

My name is Teresa. I live in Southern Indiana. 56 yrs old. Two children in college. My son is graduating this May from pharmacy college in Texas. My daughter is 2 yrs away from graduating college in Indiana. I have been married for 26 yrs to a great guy.

I have decided to have the surgery. I read a couple of posts in embarassing questions that startled me this weekend and I told my hubby that I wasn't going to do it. One topic was the foamies and the other concerned dense stools. I didn't want to deal with either of those, lol, they grossed me out. When it was shared how they deal with them if they occur in public or at a friend's home, I realllllllly didn't want to have the surgery.

So i determined I would do it myself. Yeah right! lol. That lasted one day and here I am today, having decided to do the surgery because: Foamies and dense does not happen to everyone. I have to let those chips fall where they may. Also, I want to finally be slim so I can wear some slamming clothes from my favorite stores, saks, nordstrom and neiman marcus. love-smiley-011.gif

I have lived most of my life heavy. Highest weight was 295. I am now 256. I was bulimic for 9yrs, but stopped before I became pregnant with my first child. I have not had any bulimic epsidodes in 27 yrs, but sometimes the thought pops up but I just don't act on it. This old habit really want to die hard. lol.

My doc set a goal for me of 120. I need knee replacement in both knees, have sleep apnea, cholesterol and high blood pressure.

I just wish I had not waited so long to decide to go ahead. Good news tho, my insurance company approved the surgery in less than a week. That totally caught me off guard. I will be calling on Monday to schedule my surgery for the end of May. I am waiting because I need to go to my Dad's (81 yrs old but spry, active and fit) to fill his freezer full of home cooked meals (I have been doing this every year since my mom became bedridden, so like for 4 years. She passed Oct 30, 2007, her birthday, from complications associated with Parkinsons. My dad took care of her by himself at home (hospice services) and she passed at home which is what he wanted) and go to my son's graduation May 15th.

I am thankful I caught the episode of The View, otherwise I might never have found this site. I will be telling my support group about it at the next meeting.

I have to lose 26lbs before my surgery so May will give me time. The Bariatric Center I will be getting my Lrny done is excellent. They offer nutrition, exercise classes, support groups and the doc has been doing bariatric surgies exclusively for the past 5 years. I will have to have an appointment for pre op classes which last 5 or 6 hours where they go more in depth now that I have been approved and want to go ahead. While I was still in the thinking phase, I received nutrition counseling and of course the psychological assessment and personality test as well as the doc visit. I wish they offered cooking classes tho, lol, I hate to cook but my meals turn out tasty most of the time.

So with that all said, I will begin to lose 26lbs before May, excerise regulary and get my cupboards ready for the life style changes I am about to have.

Enough of my ramblings for the day. Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. action-smiley-065.gif

Congratulations, Teresa! Welcome to the Neighborhood. You will love it here. Check out the library. If you have any questions after reading all the info there, just ask. Someone here will be able to help you. I had a lot of bouts with second guessing myself and changing my mind also, but in the end, I knew this is what I had to do to make my life better. . . and it's working!
Hope to hear from you again soon!

Hi Theresa and welcome to the neighborhood. Congratulations on your decision. I haven't had much trouble with either the foamies or dense bowels. I am almost 7 months out from surgery and am 14 pounds from goal. So, each of us has our own different issues and that is what makes the neighborhood so special.

As for cooking, man have you come to the right place! Here in the neighborhood, we take care of our own and constantly have threads running in the Community Kitchen about one food or another and there are so many here who can help you learn to cook the foods that you will eat after surgery. You are also going to find out that everyone in your family can eat the food you do if you are careful about what you choose to fix. Hope you enjoy the journey!

Welcome Teresa...I think everyone had doubts and second guessed themselves...this was my first major type surgery (I was 46 at the time), so I think you are behaving normally...the worries are natural...

That being said, I have no regrets. This has been a wonderful journey - sometimes with a little traumatic detour thrown in for fun - but still, quite a good experience.

I wish you well and look forward to seeing you here in the 'hood often!
