So I am finally gonna have to get my hernia operation next Wednesday. The Dr said it must be done asap as I could get gangrene if my intestine get caught in the hole. So he said he will open me up with my old RNY scar and hopefully will not have to use any mesh as that carries risks of its own. Also should be a same day surgery if all goes well. He said he will take out my old nasty scar and use disolving sutures on my new incision so it will look much nicer. So send me well wishes next week please!!!
Now I have just found my new favorite breakfast besides eggies. It weight control oatmeal by Quaker and it tastes like banana bread and it is way yummy! I'm sure everyone else in the world has heard about it already but I get all excited when I find a food that I actually like the first time I taste it! So does anyone else eat this delish oatmeal. 7 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar and 6 grams of dietary fiber. And only 90 calories! Nice!
So wish me well in my recovery cause the Doc said that its going to feel just like my original RNY, so percocet here I come!

Good morning Gina. Here's wishing you the very best for a surgery that goes well and a speedy recovery. I know that you will be feeling much better soon. I may just have to try that oatmeal. I really like oatmeal but don't usually get the instant kind. A glowing review always makes me want to try something though.
Best wishes and hope to see you back here quickly.

Hugs and love Gina. I know you will be just fine afterwards. And about the oatmeal. I have been using that oatmeal for the last 2 years. I learned about it from my WLS nutrtionist in NYC. It is yummy and filling.
I posted over the summer my recipe for
Super Protein Oatmeal.
1 packet Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal (I like the banana bread flavor) = 6g Fiber & 7g Protein
3/ 4 cup Non Fat Milk (I use Lactaid or Dairy Ease) = 6g Protein
2 T. Peanut Butter (I use crunchy from Trader Joe's) = 8g Protein
~Marla's Directions~
Empty contents of 1 packet Oatmeal into cup, bowl, whatever & mix with 1/2 cup nonfat milk. Microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds - if you like your Oatmeal less moist, microwave for 2 minutes. Finish by stirring in remaining 1/4 cup nonfat milk and peanut butter.
This is very filling and very satisfying... Total Protein = 21g (and fiber too!!!!)
Variation - if you can tolerate bananas - add a few slices... 1/4 of banana
Enjoy!

Hi Gina! Nothing but good healthy/healing thoughts coming your way...surgery is always a concern, no matter what it is that you're having done. I'm sure that you will feel better when it is all done and over with!
As for the oatmeal...I went through a phase of eating it, including the one that you mention here. I even cooked up the steel cut oats...irish oats...all the oats. What I found was that they were a "slider" for me. I had to go cold turkey and let go of my oats! However, if they work for you, then terrific!
Thinking of you this week!

Love and hugs Gina! May you be back posting with us very shortly after surgery. I'll be banging on my drum for you at the beach on the 5th. Actually, I have an adventure of my own coming up that day that makes me wish I were having surgery instead. I think. But anyway, I digress. I'm sending you all the good juju you can carry.
hugs and hope

Gina, best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I recall having picked up that oatmeal, but is it high in carbs? For some reason, I remember giving it to my children after I read the box...
Sometimes I just get a whim..lol. It may have been something back when I first had wls...and didn't fully understand the 'rules'.

Thanks everybody!

I wish me a speedy recovery too LOL! I looked on the box for the oatmeal and it is 29 grams of carbs but they are whole grain and my Doc reccomended that I add whole grain carbs into my daily foods as I was losing too much weight. Right now I am flirting at around 110 lbs so I am going to keep eating them and if I notice a gain then I may have to cut them out but its only 90 calories when made with water and way yummers!

They also kept me full for quite awhile too. Anyhoo, Thanks for all the well wishes and Marla, I am gonna add some PB to my oatmeal as I love that too. Maybe some banana too! LOL

Gina~ I hope that the 5th comes and goes quickly for your and that your recovery is smooth and a speedy one! I eat that oatmeal as well. It is nice to have a change of pace and it stays with me for a good 3 hrs. If you are looking to add carbs into your diet with some extra protein I found a bagel. Thomason's brand that is whole grain and has 12 grams of protein. I add peanut butter or cheese to that and it is a nice change to eggs while still good a good amount of protein and adding the carbs that I have to since I can't be in weight loss mode any longer.
smooches xx
