Well the last 2 days I have gotten out and really started cleaning my yard doing all my flower beds and getting the garden ready for the veggie plants and losing up top soil, pulling weeds and really anything to keep me busy its been beautiful here and hot so I have enjoyed all that I can because I will not be able to do it for awhile so my question is should that be all the exercise we need that day because let me just say man do my arms hurt.....and getting down crawling on your hands and knees is not that easy even after losing 100 lbs. I have really found a new love ...... its just I am so sore I don't push myself to walk or do the videos.....so I want to know if its OK because I'm sure that I will be doing this a lot this spring and summer....
my incentive for this upcoming spring/summer is to enjoy my yard and my garden that I now can take care of.......and after March 9 we get a extra hour with light to enjoy the outside....Life is good when you can put your worries on the side and enjoy everyday gifts from the Good Lord....

To count yard work as exercise, all you need to remember is that you need to be physically active for at least 30 minutes at a time, no breaks. I can tell you that yard work is some of the most vigorous work you can do as long as you aren't sitting on a riding lawn mower! So, if you are following the rule of 30 minutes at a time with no break, then you can certainly count that as real exercise.
The nicest thing about this kind of exercise is that there are true results that come from that hard work, a beautiful yard and garden and you lose both weight and inches!

I agree with Celedon. As long as you are active it does count as exercise. Exercise doesn't have to be a regimented program. Finding something that you enjoy doing is the key to remaining active. You will have twice the results. A beautiful yard to enjoy while you are losing weight and becoming more fit. Hugs.

Hey Emarie,
At the conference they talked about all the things you can do to exercise without going to the gym. Just keep working sustained bursts. It is so good for my mind and soul to get out in the garden. The emotional benefits might just keep your body in check as well.
Hey, pull some weeds for me as well.... or Moss as we have in the wet lands....

I love getting out in my gardens during the summer and let me tell you, walking behind a rototiller doesn't sound like hard work, but it really beats you up. Planting, tending, weeding all can lead to lots of exercise. Hauling around the compost. Just don't over do it, like me! I get it into my head that I want it done and will work until I drop and then get sick and not be able to do anything for a couple of days and that is no good. I plant a couple of different gardens. There is a small one out behind my rabbit barn that gets the tomatoes, beans, beets, onions, some flowers, peppers. The big garden is over an acre and I plant zucchini, squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, sometimes potatoes and corn. I love to see the all the different squashes and pumpkins coming. I plant Atlantic Giants and let me tell you, two years ago they were 2-3 foot high and the deer just loved them!
Find something that you enjoy that wears you out and that is exercise!
