Yes neighbours I might have a broken arm!
I was just starting a 5km walk tonight with a local sports club and I went to step over a low chain border/fence (was only about 8 inches high) but my toe got caught and I went down!
Went to the medical centre and my elbow area is out of alignment but I need xrays to confirm whether it's broken or not. Local hospital is apparently flat out and huge waiting time so I'm going back to the medical centre in the morning for the xray (accident happened at 6pm and they were closed).
Got left arm in sling, dressing on right elbow and left knee where I've grazed them.
Typing with 1 hand is hard work so I'll say goodnight. Will update you tomorrow.
Poor poor Barbara hehe

Oh my that sounds painful. I sure hope it is not broken. It's aweful that you are having to wait so long to get it treated.

I'm back. No more news as its 4am but I cant sleep for the pain and i'm not due for meds for half hour yet. might sneak them a little earlier. I've only had 2 hours sleep. Cant wait for the sunrise. If my arm isnt broken its a very painful sprain. If the pain is anything to go by, feels broken to me!!
Thanks for the messages everyone. i knew coming on line would cheer me up. Now if i could just sleep i'd be even more happy. Meds wont make me happy, didnt even work last time.
Hope to update you in about 5 hours. Could be longer if I have to go to the hospital for treatment. I'll let u know ASAP coz o know you'll be worrying

I HATE this news, Barb! What the heck?! You're such a good person, you surely do NOT deserve this. I'm sorry that it happened. That's what you get for living I guess. Don't despair. When you use your body, it gets beat up. Better to go out fightin' than to lay there crying for a life. You will always be a she ro in my book (for what THAT'S worth!!!!)
sending hugs across the Pacific Ocean to you!

WAIT A GOSH DARNED SECOND!!!!
I think that this is super cool! Barbara...you have a "sports injury"!!! Did you ever think that you'd see the day when you'd report that you had a freaking sports related injury??? This is awesome! And the fact that you're still stuck in your workout clothes? Brilliant!!!
Aw, you know that I adore you and I wish you a speedy recovery. That Peet's will get the pain meds in your system faster!!!

aaaawwwwww Sandi......a "She ro"? thank you darling
I don't think I deserve this either but its my own fault for being in such a hurry and not taking care. I'm just grateful i didnt have the extra 100 pounds of weight behind the fall! I'm annoyed that it means no Curves, biking or swimming for weeks.........just walking. Booooooring

but I guess it could be worse, i could have broken my leg. I'm already feeling coopd up and ots only been one day. Will probably go for a gentle stroll tomorrow.
Good arm is getting tired so I'd better stop typing. catch ya'll later

Barbara,
Sorry to hear about your injury and that you will be unable to do your triathlons but you dont have to stop working out. I am sure Curves has stationary cycles. I know they arent that good but they will let you keep some of the fitness base you have gained. They also tend to be fairly stable and you can also walk.
I hope it is not too bad and that you heal quickly.

Hi, Barbara!
I'm so sorry that you broke your elbow. It must be really painful! However, if you had to hurt yourself, it's good that you did it while working out! That is definitely a badge of honor as far as I'm concerned!
I agree with Damon -- don't let this derail your fitness program! Get the doc's recommendations for exercise you can do -- in writing even, and then go for it. Spinning, walking, lower-body strength work. And as you recover, you'll want to have specific exercises for that arm so you can build it back up to it's maximum capacity.
Say it with me -- EXERCISE IS GOOD!!! Especially now.
By the way, my husband broke his arm on Sunday -- while I was in an airplane coming home from the east coast. I knew nothing until I turned on my cell phone and got the text messages from my son -- "Dad in the ER" -- now I can laugh! But he's laid up good and in lots of pain, though improving rapidly. Unfortunately, he wasn't working out, but tripped over a curb. Ouch! My sympathies to you for SURE.
Keep us updated! And get back on the fitness regime as soon as you can.
Judy

Howdy Neighbours
Damon and Judy don't worry I will still be trying to do as much exercise as I can. I have had 2 days at home and already I'm feeling cooped up. I will definately be walking as much as I can and I'm trying to find someone who has a stationary cycle that they're not using. I might even hire one yet. Curves don't have them Damon. They only have resistance equipment most of which I need 2 good arms to use. I have put my membership on hold so I'm not paying while I'm out of action. That money could go towards hireage.
Yes Judy EXERCISE IS GOOD!!
I am not in as much pain today so things are looking up. I have to go back to work tomorrow as there is no one to cover for me. My job is mostly office work so I'll go and take it as easy as possible.
Actually I inflicted a wee moment of voluntary pain on myself today and did something I've wanted to do for a while. I decided that since I can't swim for a few weeks that I'd get my bellybutton pierced!!!

I always used to joke when I was obese that there was no point doing it because no one would see it, including me. Well now I can see it and others will too if I choose to expose my wrinkly tummy. So now I have a lovely purple jewelled double bar through my tummy hehe. Do you wanna see pixs? lol
Sorry to hear about your husband's arm Judy. Tell him from me he has my sympathy. Hope each day gets better for him.
I got my appointment at the orthopedic clinic for next Friday so I have to wait for a whole week until I get my purple cast boo hoo
oooooooo tired right arm from typing so I'll catch ya'll later

My goodness I miss my exercise regime already and it's only been 3 days. I just HAD to go for a walk today so had a gentle stroll for 45 minutes. Gee you get a sore neck walking for that long with a sling around your neck and I don't even have a full cast yet.
I made enquiries at a local gym today about the cost of using them for their treadmills, upright cycles, recumbent bikes, cross trainers, etc. I can go there 7 days a week for not much more than Curves (remembering I have that membership on hold) so I'll still be able to get a variety of exercise in with my broken arm. They also have weights, etc so I can work on my core muscles and lower body then incorporate my arms once I've healed. The best thing is that I don't get locked in to a contract. So I'm going to go down there on Sunday morning and get set up ready for next week.
Who would have thought that I'd be craving exercise?! Crazy! hehehe
Keep moving people. If I can, you can!

Thank you Kaye. You must have known I needed that today. I'm so sick of this broken arm. My other arm is getting tired and it takes so long to do anything, especially at work. I am thankful that my husband is wonderful and will do anything for me but I tend to be as independent as possible. I do miss him at night though as he's moved into the spare room to give me whole bed so I can arrange my support pillows.
Oh well, only 6 weeks to go. Doesn't help that I'm not happy at work either but who is going to employ someone with a broken arm?!
boo hoo whoa is me. Thank goodness I'm losing heaps of weight at the moment in spite of my lack of exercise

Howdy neighbours. Thought you might like an update on my arm. Friday 7th I went to the fracture clinic and they put my arm in a lovely purple cast just about up to my arm pit. Although at the time I was relieved to get it on as it gave me better protection and security, I was soon tired of it. Why does your arm itch so much when it's in a cast?! gggrrrrr. I went back to the fracture clinic Friday 14th and saw the specialist. The previous week I only saw his registrars. They had taken my cast off to do the xrays but the specialist said I shouldn't have had one in the first place. Apparently I only have a small fracture, which he says will mend on it's own, but because it's so close to the elbow he wants me to exercise it so it doesn't cease up ("hope it's not too late" he says). So I just have a cuff and collar sling and I am using it a bit more but not for anything weight baring. Certainly makes lifes easier thats for sure. So I'll just be careful and enjoy the bike, treadmill and cross trainer at the gym and see what he says when I got back in 3 weeks.

Kim - I very proudly tell people it is a sport injury! hehe
Sandi - How is your husband doing?
