So here I am on day 5 of the Poe Poe mickee influenza tour.
I've been dizzy, fevered, chilled, weak, achy, diarrhea, beyond fatigued
and totally worthless to all around me. BUT I do feel a bit better
today folks! Thanks for the great posts while I've been down and out.
If I could markey the dreams I've been having next year's Oscars
would include a few of the plot points.
but HERE's THE IMPORTANT STUFF!
last week, before I became ill I had an appointment with my new PCP. She did blood work to
get a base of where my anemia is and see if thyroid and other goodies are OK.
RESULTS! Everything was super.. And the BIG Item on the list was that......
Hematocrit NORMAL for the first time in years!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it HAS to be because of you all telling me how to take my meds
to maximize binding! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! NORMAL, she said! I didn't even
ask for a number, I was so pleased. I will call her later though to inquire about that.
The differences are:
  1. I take my two iron pills in the afternoon with a vit C lozenge
  2. I never take iron around any calcium consumption
  3. I take the iron and C everyday without fail
So that's the big news. Many thanks for all the great information and support here!

Also... bullet drinks are helpful while really feeling sick. I didn't know about them
until recently so they really have helped while I've been down. I'm not yet
back in the pink but closer than I was on the weekend. pheeeew!

Very good news indeedy my poe poe friend. And you deserve some good news! Keep drinking your fluids and get all the way well.

But I'm thrilled about your iron. Awesome, fingers crossed, you've got your plan working now!
Celadon
poe, poe mickee is soon to be happy, happy mickee! I am thrilled at your iron results being one with chronic anemia myself! I know how hard it is for us to get that iron count even close to normal so being normal in this case is EXTRAORDINARY!!!! for you!

Please take care and get well soon. I really miss your early morning posts! Oh, and the bullets, I don't particularly care for them but I keep them around just for when and if I get sick!
Emarie
Glad to hear good news about the iron........ feel better ...... take care..... hugs
BeJean

Good news! Glad you're feeling a little better.

OK, I'm feeling really uninformed today...what is a bullet drink?

naw naw, Jeanie... socalled "Bullet Drinks" are little powdered
protein individual serving pkts to mix with water for a quick
protein infusion when we're droopy. Like, ProteinPak 2 Go
by Designer Whey.. comes in boxes of 10. Each pkt yields 10 grms
whey isolate protein (no lactose)..60 cals..1 grm sugar and the fruit
flavors are made from real fruit juices. Shop around the web. These can be expensive
but don't HAVE to be if you order from the right source. Also, Damon mentioned
a Nunn product for hydraton. I ordered the Kona Kola he really liked. Hasn't arrived
yet. I'll let you know. The Nunn product is for optimal hydration, not a nutrient supplement.
But the point is... if you're ill and aren't taking in enough protein or staying hydrated, these can be a help.
Or if you know you'll be away from home and need a lift mid afternoon or in the evening.
These Bullet Drinks can fill the bill. I'll look to see where I found the best prices if you're interested.
I know you use unjury a lot... I'll bet they have their own brand of these protein
boosters.
BeJean
glad I asked! I will check them out.
I was thinking you were calling your protein shakes that because you use your bullet blender! LOL

I am so glad that you are on the mend my sweets! Keep taking care of you!
I am doing a happy dance sport-smiley-001.gif for you and your iron counts that is awesome!!

Hugs!

Hi Poe Poe Mickie!

Your iron news is great! Can you feel the difference? When you're not sick of course.

I was with Jean, I did not know what Bullet Drinks were and thought you were referring to your Magic Bullet!!! I will check those out.

Having the flu is no fun and I'm sorry you've been down but it sounds like you're starting to feel better. Hopefully the "tour" will be completely over soon!!!

Hugs to you!

Wow, Mickeyfinn, thats great news about the iron. I wish I knew about the bullets I have been down with the flu since 2/19, I just got back to work yesterday. I haven't gotten my home computer fixed so I am completely out of the loop at home. I can't shake the coughing and stuffy head. But the fever and chills have gone and thats good enough for now. If I could only get some sleep I'll be all set. Glad your feeling better.

Great news Mickee. I'm glad to here you're doing better. Best Wishes!!

PS I didn't know what a bullet drink was either. And thanks for the info on how to take iron so it works. If I stick around here long enough and read the posts, I may learn all things I should have known for years.

Hey Mari, I think our docs or nutritionists or SOMEbody should have known.
If it weren't for the "try and see if it works" attitude around here, we would all
be in pretty sad shape, I'm thinkin'. Thank goodness for the hood! We're the survivors!
Determined to plug ahead and make some sense of it all. With every new member who
drops in for help, they end up offering some amazing thing no one else had
considered before. So yeah... make sure you ask lots of questions. As for me??
When I first came I didn't know what questions I needed to be asking? Live and learn
in a supportive place where we're all in the same boat. I love it here!
