I was doing fairly well for day 2 but have had a bad headache all day today..no relief with tylenol & plenty of fluids...I had my protein drink for dinner & some chicken broth..I

broke the liquids & decided to have a jar of Beech-nut baby food beef vegetable dinner(its soft & this is what I was allowed immediately post op...) OK so I'm a few hours ahead ...Day 3 starting on day 2 1/2! But my headache cleared right up! So I will continue as planned with day 3 tomorrow, then 4, then 5 etc....
I really hope someone knows the list of specific bloodwork on a yearly basis...My PCP also does the usual bloodwook yearly but I know that there are more specific things to check on..My surgeon is 2 states away & I haven't seen her in about 3 years but I'm feeling great with no complaints of anything

..so I think I'm ok...I take my vitamins & work hard to get all my protein in..well somebody out there knows the bloodwork....hopefully they will read these messages!
PS how does everyone get all those cute things with their messages?
Good luck & talk soon!

i think i found what you were looking for....stay in the Diet, Nutrition, Supplements category, scroll down almost to the bottom, you will see Post op Labs by BamaGal....click in there and read her post, and if you click on "my most recent blog post" it will take you to the list she has . i wish i knew how to put it in here so you could just click on it from here but i don't, i'm not very good with computers, but i hope this at least gets you there.

So you'll know the next time. If you find a post you want to print out, click on "Options" at the top of the thread. You can print from there. Sometimes, if I don't want the whole thread, I will copy what I do want into MSWORD and print it from there, eliminating what I don't need to print.

hey y'all----I don't know about other insurances--but mine covers all of these---simply because I am post WLS
the billing codes listed with the labs needed are key to being covered....
I'm working on finding out what the proper levels of each lab value should be---know your levels and adjust your supplements accordingly
it is also wise to find out from your surgeon just how much intestine was bypassed---the more bypassed the worse the absorption--
even though I am anal about taking all of my supplements and plenty more than most do--I am still classified as severely malnourished---my docs diagnosis "you're a mess"
I working diligently with my doc and hematologist to improve my nutritional status---right now my supplements are running about twice the price of my food budget....

My Dr. has said nothing about lab tests yet, I'm 7 weeks out of surgery. When do you usually get the first labs done after WLS?

Hi Denise,
I don't really remember!!! I'm sure your doc will tell you when you need to have them done. I want to say it was a year out....but I'm not sure. My memory is not what it used to be!

I remember getting labs done pretty darned quick after my surgery...maybe at 4 months? I know that I was having blood drawn about every three months for the first year or so out. Now, just once a year, unless I'm going in for something specific. I've got an appointment to check out what's causing the bloat and she wants me to have labs done prior. I'm always willing to give a vein.
I've not had such an extensive battery of tests done that Bama suggests here, but know that if I asked my PCP, she'd probably do them. Bama, sorry to hear that you're "a mess"...that just stinks.

Hi Everybody,
My WLS center has us get bloodwork done at 3-months post-op, 6-months and then at 1 year. My 3-month checkup is scheduled for 3/12. I dread the bloodwork...I hate needles...they can never find a good vein.

I also had bloodwork done at 3, 6 and 12 months. Now just once a year. I'm pretty proxie, though - only 85 cm bypassed, so I don't have as much malabsorption as someone with a longer bypass.
And, Kathydee, you should find that they have less trouble finding your veins as you progress on your journey. I used to be terrible to find veins on - they often wound up using the ones on the backs of my hands. Now, they don't have any problems at all. Another nice benefit of weight loss.

Thanks for sharing that info, Catsroomie! They've used the backs of my hands, too...that is soooo painful. I didn't realize that losing weight would make my veins easier to find. I hope it's easier this time around.

My Doc did bloodwork at 6mo and 1 year and now yearly. I'm gonna get my pcp to add in a workup so I will get levels checked every 6 months. Bama, do you have a thyroid prob? Lots of thyroid tests on your list. I haven't had any issues thyroid wise so I think I'm ok to skip those. What do you think?
