You could use canned soups drained, but the sodium content is high and there's not a lot of protein in those soups. There are quite a few recipes for some YUMMY soups (and pretty easy to make) at the 5dpt website. If you have time to plan and do it, make the soups provided. Not only are they filling, but they help to banish the carb monster really well.

We have a group starting on Monday, March 3 - care to join us?

Tori,
What if someone would use the low sodium soup & add 1/2 to 1 scoop of unflavored protein powder?
I'm not doing the 5dpt, but something in me just wants to reach out to those who are. I know some people just aren't good in the kitchen, even w/ simple recipes, or maybe just don't have the time to do their own. It seems like making this easy for a person so they can get back on track & then do the hard stuff afterward would be good. I know none of us would want someone to give up their hope because they have to make soup. And someone might be in a mindset that this would just be too hard for them. I'm one to say, "buck up and get on with it" and "here are the rules, just follow them" but something in me just goes out to a person who had the surgery and then fell into some traps and gained and is now feeling like this may be their last hope.
I know I rambled here, but my heart just goes out to all who feel they don't have any hope left.
You have been a great 5dpt "counselor" and I think everyone values your input. What do you think? Would low sodium canned soup w/ protein added be an alternative to someone who won't, for whatever reason, make the soups?

That would work! Good idea. She specifically mentioned campbell's vegetable and chicken. This is why we need others input - my mind doesn't go that direction. I was assuming she had those on hand and didn't even thing about other canned options out there. Personally, I can't stand canned soup (it has a weird icky aftertaste to me), so if I'm going to mess with it, I'll just do a recipe. You mean everybody isn't like that? LOL!

My thought is if you're going to do a canned soup that you have to strain, why not just buy the low-sod broth and add the unflavored protein powder to that? (*btw...I've never even seen unflavored protein powder - where do you get it?)

Someone also posted a cream of chicken soup recipe that sounded yummy (I think it's pinned on the 5dpt recipes post). Yes, see...another recipe, but pretty easy sounding.

Then again, there's always protein shakes. *shudder*

I haven't tried the unflavored, but I know they are out there. Maybe someone will post & tell us one they've tried that worked for them.

I get unflavored protein powder from GNC. It doesnt have an aftertaste...but does change the consistency of what it is put in. Example, it is easier <and imo tastes better> for me to put it in pudding that is already solid...and mix it well, rather than when it is being made. I know someone said unjury <sp?> makes one as well!

Best of luck!
