Don't let temporary "stalls" to your weight loss discourage you. Use the dreaded "plateau" as a processing time. As you lose your excess weight, you are being given a golden opportunity to undo years of bad eating and exercising habits. Use this time wisely! Find constructive things to do besides obsessing about the scale. Here are some ideas:

1. Take up a new physical challenge every time you stall. Make it a signal to learn a new game or perfect some thing that you quit doing when you were too heavy. Members on here have taken up all kinds of new exercise passions. You can too.

2. Measure your body instead of weighing for a couple of weeks.

3. Up your water intake. A plateau can signal a time of increased fat loss. This is a good thing! Celebrate!

4. Every time your weight loss stalls, do a kind deed for someone else. There is so much need in the world, and sometimes, you need to look at the big picture instead of your own picture. Kind of puts things back in perspective.

5. Post here in the hood and get emotional support to help you through. Silence is definitely NOT golden here.

So, don't let that plateau ruin your week (month etc). Take action! Get moving! Reach out! You're getting there. It's happening!!!

best wishes,

Sandi, these are all great ideas. I have gotten to the point that I am losing much more slowly because I don't have much left to lose. I implemented much of what you said above and I have to verify that it works. For a couple of weeks, I only lost a pound but I had started back exercising at Curves and walking a lot more. After just one week, I not only dropped 6 pounds, but I lost a full inch in my waist which I don't have to tell any of you is the place that is hardest for all of us to lose. The encouragement alone from that week will carry me through.

Any of you that are skeptical, don't be. This is a good set of plans!

What a great idea, I had been so sick with the flu I allowed my excersize program to go unchecked for 2 weeks. Today I got up and worked out this morning. I am bringing my extra sneakers to work and walking at lunch when its not raining. I really need to get moving more. I am 30 lbs from goal. I seem so much slower than others in my weight loss. So no more whinning from me, only looking forward and making good choices.
Thanks for the reminder Sandi.
